A black line had etched itself upon the sky of the Southern Rukongai’s seventy-eighth district known as Inuzuri. A line that bulged outward like an other-worldly seam being pushed against from the other side until panels of the sky began to slide apart. Revealed within was a figure with the backdrop that was Hueco Mundo stretching out endlessly behind her. This figure was a young woman in appearance with unnatural attributes blatantly obvious to any who looked upon her. She bore ashen black-grey skin with red eyes beset upon black sclera that gave off a dull glow. Just below those eyes sat the strip of white, bone-like material that was the remnants of her mask, broadcasting to most Shinigami that, despite her humanly appearance, she was a Hollow-breed. This starkly contrasting reminder of her former, ‘unbroken’ Hollow life stretched from cheekbone to cheekbone, across the bridge of her nose whilst molding to the contours of her face. Her long, unstyled hair was an inky black hue that trumped even the shade of her skin that it laid against. The entirety of her form was unobscured by clothing; the woman having foregone finding a new robe in favour of saiting this newfound need to explore the Soul Society, this… obsessive, intrusive thought. Thus, here she was with her Raven sat upon her bare shoulder; it's orange orbs for eyes scanning the area with a certain curious. Every robe of hers was burned away by that shawl of fire that seemed to eternally hang about her shoulder and upper back. It even seemed to eat holes in her flesh at times, not that she seemed to mind as such ‘wounds’ healed themselves.
It was midday in the Rukongai, the sun set high in the sky, bathing the district of Inuzuri in its warmth and light. Not that she felt the warmth herself. There was no breeze to ease the heat for the souls who called this place home and the streets were oddly quiet with exception only being given to the occasional chatting neighbours or vagrant children. One could attribute this to many villagers seeking refuge within their homes from the weather, though, it also gave a sense of eeriness: as if nature itself was holding her breath for what this day wrought for the people.
Inuzuri was a place of poorly constructed huts crammed together with other homes of equally crude make and model. The streets were simple dirt roads pressed down by frequent use that cut through the lines of crumbling buildings. Gangs of homeless children could be seen darting to and fro, begging for charity, stealing or hiding in alleyways. It looked like a place of struggle and suffering more-so than the afterlife many humans dreamed or preached about during their time on earth. How sad, the woman thought as she descended towards the dirt road below, a light hiss given off from where her foot met the dirt. Her Raven had taken to the skies to observe and keep its senses alert for Shinigami. She and the Raven disagreed often about what they should do and where they should go, but even in this most dangerous of all places, only brief mental words were shared. The Raven knew this was suicidally dangerous and yet it too felt that compulsion to go to the Soul Society, thus, it did not argue with her. They had to… For some reason, they had to.
Verbrennung was her name and here she stood in the realm of the Shinigami; the mortal enemies of her kind. They purified the ‘poor, tortured souls’ of Hollow-breeds so that they may be reborn whole in the Rukongai… In that moment, she watched as a small group of dirty children in tattered clothes scampered off into an alley to most likely find safety.
“Is this the paradise they wish to deliver us unto? Ah hah… A poorly told joke repeated for centuries into the ears of starving recruits no doubt.” The Arrancar murmured to herself with a slight upward curve of her lips. She held her hands out at her sides in a lazy manner, her palms facing forwards with their Hollow holes fully on display, “Purification by fire is a thing, is it not? Ah hah... Let's do a little roleplay: I'll be the Shinigami and all of you will be the Hollow-breeds. Readyy...?” Orbs of reiryoku began to gather just in front of the singular holes in her palms; each Cero swirling with a mixture of red, orange and yellow hues. As they charged, the wreath of fire that hung about her shoulder seemed to roar fiercer than usual. It seemed even the Ceros were beset by these same flames.
"GO!" The Ceros took flight like molotov cocktails tossed at inhuman speeds. Shrieks erupted throughout Inuzuri just as the flames did.
She wanted to paint the town red, orange and black.
