Why am I carving your name into trees that lie in forests you will never walk in?
The monotone sound of heels hitting the dirty pavement broke the silence which was, under other conditions, always so present in the dangai. A dainty shadow swiftly creeped through the otherwise empty tunnels and made its way towards the light. Hardly any features that led to more information, such as the person’s gender, race, or even hair-colour could be seen, as they were completely wrapped up in a long, ragged cloak with a hood deeply pulled into their face. The only aspect that stood out was the long sword she carried on her back - an ōdachi kept in a painted wooden sheath. Underneath all of it she was clad in the remains of a slightly modified Shihakusho, one that had been suffering in quality and good appearance over the last few months. The light came closer and eventually a pair of azure eyes could see the land located beyond it.
I shouldn’t be here, she thought to herself since there was no one else she could speak to. Rukongai - how long had it been? Surely barely any time had passed when your soul resided within the body of a Shinigami but under different circumstances even one’s perception of ‘time’ could be altered greatly. She hesitated before making the final step outside and worry overcame her. The call of the king in the desert of Hueco Mundo was unavoidable and irresistible, she had to go home even if she didn’t really wanted to.
When Seryu Akamine disappeared from the surface of both her own and the mortal’s word she had made a decision. Words, promises, names and even memories - they would disappear. In return she would become Nothing. An unusual route to choose for someone who craved attention more than the air they needed to breath--and she had chosen it anyways. The Shinigami had not spoken to anyone in months that felt like years, not seen the faces of the people she loved and somehow she survived. All of her selfish and immoral desires seemed to have faded as there was nothing, absolutely nothing in Hueco Mundo that she wanted.
You’d think that a girl like her would always want something - but even she had her limits. Seryu had agreed on vanishing, for the greater good and everyone else, albeit reluctantly.
And solitude had made her so much more accepting.
Obsession’s gift still hid inside the girl’s body but had fallen asleep a long time ago. There was nothing it could take from her anymore, no fear of something it could make her believe in, so it decided to rest - gather energy and sharpen its blade while doing so in case she was ever going to show weakness again.
Seryu made a step outside and with a hissing sound the doors behind her closed and eventually disappeared. Almost meekly she approached one of the main streets and peered around the corner of someone’s house - nobody there. All the souls were resting, it was in the middle of the night after all, but she still waited with removing her hood until she was in the forest with no one else’s presence around but her own.
Illuminated by the light of an artificial moon, an ocean of translucent, lily-white locks descended down the length of her body, shrouding her like a veil of mist. Porcelain skin was now unmarred by imperfections - she was as beautiful as ever, long before Erasmus had hurt her. Well, except for one little detail maybe. The woman’s left arm was still destroyed and a prosthesis served in its stead now, the same one Kionchi had made for her although it was rusty by now and useless. She ripped it off and threw it away.
Before she left she wanted to see her beautiful self again when looking into the mirror, so Seryu had granted herself that one wish - not knowing that there were no mirrors in Hueco Mundo after all. Now one-armed--and quite intimidated by the whole situation--the Shinigami walked down the small path until she arrived at her former home, a house in ruins, now overgrown by all sorts of flora.
“Oh shit,” she facepalmed. “I completely forgot that Nagisa destroyed this place.”
Great. Now what? Like hell she was entering the Sereitei before she knew what in the bloody hell was even going on.
