Encounter. A dark and out of the way alley. Surprisingly it was occupied at this time of night, and not as quiet as the streets surrounding it. A young man wearing sunglasses and a crimson jacket with its hood pulled up. A middle aged gentleman wearing a rather expensive looking suit. A rather odd pairing having a discussion in this alley.
"I ain't lookin' fer' trouble, ya' know?"
"Then you should have accepted the bosses' kind offer to work for us."
"Huh? Is dis' a bad mafia movie now? C'mon, ya' know I work fer' da' guild anyways. Dat' ain't an offer I can accept."
"You can and you will. Your little guild is nothing to us, besides the Boss is one of your biggest contractors. All you have to do is put us above your thieving little friends. Or in your terms form an exclusive contract with us."
"Banshee would not like dat'."
"Who cares bout that woman. Her name isn't as scary around here as you all seem to think it is. The boss has connections you simple thieves could never dream of. Now last chance, cut ties with her and your guild and work for us."
"Wat' if I say no? I mean if I'm so simple, ya' don't really even need me right? So, why are we even talkin'?"
-click- "I suggest you choose your next words wisely and stop playing around, Wraith."
A sigh escaped the lips of the young man. This wasn't the first time such things had happened. Every now and then one of his clients let their ego control their actions. Simply because Wraith did good work, and they thought themselves above such 'petty thieves', the tried to make Wraith one of their personal assets. This happened to people with code-names within his guild all the time, and was the reason they never used real names in the first place. It was easier to escape these situations when they thought they had to go for you directly, instead of family and friends. Still this situation that felt like it was ripped straight out of a movie had to come to an end, so the thief thought up a plan.
He wasn't worried about the gun too much. Based on their conversation the man was highly unlikely to use it. What he was concerned about was the people he could sense guarding either end of the alley, two on each side. Taking a guess Wraith assumed that their boss had told them to bring him back alive and able to work, therefore they wouldn't shoot him. However, the additional people were probably there to capture him by force. Their boss wouldn't mind if he was just a little beaten up after all.
It seemed that he had performed a bit too well on his last job, a diamond heist. If he had waited a few more days they probably wouldn't have thought much of him, but because it was so simple to get those diamonds and he was sure he wouldn't suffer any backlash and he wouldn't be followed, he handed over the merchandise early. That probably made their boss get greedy, and greed sometimes led to these things. That wasn't important now however, as the thief's eyes scanned the alleyway he was looking for a way out. That was what was important.
"Just be a good boy and come with me. I would hate to have to use this."
Wraith simply smiled when the middle aged gentleman taunted him. He then nodded his head as though he agreed. Then when the man in his sharp suit looked relaxed for a moment and lowered the gun slightly he closed his eyes and nodded and was probably about to ramble on about something, but it was now that Wraith made his move. Quickly removed the staff from the back of his belt he immediately turned around and started to run. The man was already starting to talk, before he realized from the sound of the footsteps that something was wrong. When he opened his eyes again and began to react, Wraith had already used his staff to knock loose the ladder of the nearby fire escape and was climbing up to the roof.
"Stop him! Two of you go in and cut him off. Catch that damn thief now!"
The thief moved quickly, and climb up the ladder and then the subsequent stairs to find himself on the roof of the building in that was bordering that alley. A quick look around told him no one could see him at the moment, and so his body entered it's ghostly state as he ran towards the door on the roof. He knew someone was likely running up the stairs from inside towards him, so he also became invisible and simply waited. A few minutes later the door to the rough busted open and two large men stood on the roof looking around. Wraith quietly moved past them and down the stairs, through the building and out onto the street.
"He's not up here! Search the building, he must be hiding somewhere!"
It likely wouldn't be long before they realized he had got by them somehow, or perhaps they would turn on each other thinking he paid one of them off. Regardless, Wraith didn't stop moving for a while and ran away in his invisible ghostly form for quite some time. Exhausted from all the stress of this incident immediately after finishing a job, the thief looked around for a nearby place they would never look for him at, so that he could rest. That was when he found a small Shinto temple complete with a shrine. It brought a brief bit of nostalgia to the thief, but he didn't have time to reminisce. Stealthily the thief located the storage room of the temple. Returning to his normal form the thief got comfortable within a corner and closed his eyes. He would have to rest here for the night. He had a lot to do when he awoke, like notifying Banshee to put those guys and their boss on the guild's blacklist.
