Her “shack” had long since been remodeled into something closer to an actual home. While she hadn’t bothered to touch anything structural, she had painted the walls and moved in some new furniture, courtesy of the fearful citizens who had booked it out of the area. Nothing was really up to her victorian era taste, at least she had the basic things she needed like storage space, a bed, and some moderate decorations that came in the form of flowers and knick knacks.
In a lot of ways, it had become home for her over the past month. With the chaos going on in the Seireitei and Erasmus’ assumed explosion, she hardly doubted there was anything left for her in Las Noches, and she knew better than to go back to Earth where Shun might find her. All in all, this cozy little house at the very edge of the populated Rukongai was about as safe as she could be.
After all, if anyone even started to approach, her newly acquired sense of the world would tingle and give her plenty of time to react. Speaking of, that was what she largely spent her days doing. Closing her eyes and searching the world around her for anything interesting. Tagging anyone with notable spiritual power. Testing the limits of just how well she could “see” with her new vision. Wish certainly hadn’t cut in corners in giving her this skill, though she had yet to put it towards the practice he had envisioned.
’You’re more than recovered,’ the devil himself spoke. ’Why are we still here? Shouldn’t we be out doing… Something?’
“Why?” She answered aloud, her tone uninterested.
’I’m cool with us just wasting our lives forever back here in this dump, don’t get me wrong, but I thought this would be more of a challenge.’ He sounded honestly disappointed. ’Where’s the resolve to get Samyaza back? Where’s the fire that drove you before?’
Good questions. None of them she bothered to answer.
Flinging her legs off the side of the bed and stretching out her back, Eve readied herself to face the day. The sun had rose not too long ago and, like any other day, she needed to get used to her new array of skills. Even the basic things like Zanjutsu were so different for her. After all, before she had a scythe. Now she had a proper sword. Everything was backwards.
However, the moment her bare feet hit the ground, she felt that little tickle in the back of her mind. Stretching out her spiritual sight, sure enough there was someone coming. Too far away to tag, but close enough to acknowledge. Quietly, she pulled her spiritual presence in against her body to cloak herself from the assumed Shinigami. It would be a while before they showed up, but better safe than sorry.
With only a bit of hurry, she dressed herself and readied her body for any possible confrontations. Since she had hidden herself, no Shinigami had come looking, but she certainly had grown powerful in such a short time. Perhaps she got careless one day and they noticed. Now someone was sent to investigate.
Right as she kicked her heel against the floor to tighten her boot, the signature slowed to a stop not too far from hr shack. Clearly a bit lost now that she wasn’t such an obvious target, but on the right trail. He -- definitely a he, and a powerful one at that -- began walking towards her shack.
Without any hesitation, she grabbed her sword from the dresser beside her, hooked it onto her obi, and pushed open the door. As she turned in the direction of the man, she let her spiritual weight drown the entire area, very obviously pointing him to her. Needless to say, the Shinigami hurried towards her.
It was only when he popped out from the side of a house that her grip on her sword loosened and a dazed expression hit her. What were the chances of it being him? She wasn’t complaining, of course, but really. The odds were astronomical. Especially given the chaos the Seireitei was surely in. She took a step forward, features relaxing as she breathed out his name.
