The crisp sound of leaves and twigs breaking underneath Tsubaki's bare feet should have been echoing through the peaceful atmosphere of the forest as she walked between the trees, but instead of the sounds of her passage the forest was filled instead with the sound of rustling leaves and the occasional scurrying of some unknown animal or the bright chirp of a bird proclaiming their sovereignty over their chosen territory. As she walked along under the thick, shifting boughs of the ancient trees the light of the setting sun occasionally broke through the leaves to light on her raven hair, the dappled spots of golden-orange light appearing as an ever shifting group of fallen leaves sliding across her hair. Instead of her normal uniform Tsubaki was in a training garb, the light but solid fabric of her outfit tightly conforming to her body while the stretchy nature of the fabric gave her complete freedom of movement, perfect for the purposes of her training.
The one strange thing about her appearance, and the cause of the silence of her passage, was that she wasn't actually walking across the ground. Rather, she was walking on air, a few scant inches above the carpet of dry leaves and brittle twigs scattered across the forest floor. Tsubaki did this for a very particular reason, which was directly linked to the purpose for her trip, and it's destination. She was taking time to train herself, and by using her flash step to keep herself suspended constantly was just another part of her training.
Tsubaki continued walking along for nearly an hour, seeing no reason to rush as the longer she took to get to her location the more practice in fine control she got through her method of travel. She didn't pause or even really seem to notice as the sun finished it's path below the horizon and the moon began to ascend into the sky in it's place. She paid no heed to the sounds of the day slowly fading away, only to be replaced the the sounds of the forest's nocturnal denizens rising to greet the night. She didn't even flinch when an owl silently shot past her head and slammed it's talons into the ground, the muffled squeak of a mouse being the only sound of the bird's prey made before the owl's beak plunged into it's neck, forever silencing the mouse, and marking the beginning of the owl's first meal of the night. The owl didn't even react as Tsubaki merely walked over it, raising herself in the air to pass by without interrupting her stride, and descending back into her previous height. As far as the owl was concerned, indeed as far as most of the forest was concerned, Tsubaki was just as much of a nocturnal predator as the owl or any other creature that hunted under the light of the moon, and as long as she didn't try and interfere with the other predators they would not interfere with her.
Finally Tsubaki came to a stop before a the great face of a rocky wall. The cliff stood before, unassailable, unforgiving, and utterly indomitable. However the cliff also showed a gentle face for those who knew what to look for. The protective, sheltering nature of the stone showed in the small crevices, where the light sound of the birds of the day sleeping through the night could be heard, the birds unafraid of danger as they knew that the stone around their nests would protect them. The great cliff showed it's gentleness in the fields of green that spread across it's face, the vast swaths of verdant and healthy moss cascading down the cliff a great, yet gentle river. For those who knew how to listen to the life of the forest the cliff even sang with the joyous song of life as the shuffling of the smaller creatures that were turning in for the night, or were just waking up, complimented by the bright gurgling of the small stream of pristine, clear water fell down the cliff, catching in small basins where the birds of the night could be seen congregating to drink for the pure water that flashed with the reflection of the rising moon before continuing it's winding path down the stone.
What caught Tsubaki's eyes however, was the small, almost invisible overhang nearly three quarters of the way up the cliff face. Still supporting her weight on seemingly empty air she climbed up until she was even with the overhang, which could now be seen as a deep tunnel, the end of which was obscured by the winding nature of the natural feature. Tsubaki entered the cave, getting down on her hands and knees to fit without hitting her head on the low ceiling as she crawled through the tunnel, finally allowing herself to settle on the ground as she crawled. She continued to crawl for several minutes in complete darkness, as the light of the moon had been cut off as she rounded a slight bend.
After a few more minutes of climbing light began to fill the tunnel again as she rounded another turn and a gentle golden light shined from the end of the tunnel from several small bulbs that studded a group of vines that ran along the walls of the tunnel near it's end. The vines were the result of one of Tsubaki's many experiments, and provided a gentle, natural light by the mixing of chemicals inside the translucent bulbs, which each had a small, white flower situated on the very center. The bulbs served the dual purpose of lighting the environment and attracting insects, which would then pollinate the plants. The end of the tunnel rapidly came to meet Tsubaki, and soon she crawled through the opening and rose up, turning her face up to see the small openings in the rocky ceiling that seemed perfectly placed to always allow the soft glow of the moon to shine through, regardless of it's position. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a few moments, mentally prepping herself for the rigorous training she was about to put herself through. Finally she pushed the air out through her nose and lowered her head, a fiery look in her eyes.
