Years in the past- it was the year 1832, in the days of what could never be named as "peace" but were as close as they ever got during Ginjo's life- the young man and his younger sister were traveling through the Rukongai, doing what they could to make by. He had manifested his blade long ago, trained by the old Shinigami that had lost his mind and attacked them- forcing Ginjo do fight him .. he knew not where he was now. The young man knew only that he had driven him away and protected Selena- and that was all that mattered in the end to the boy. Hefting himself up slightly, he glanced down at the young ten year old girl- curly chestnut curls spiraling down her back of her sundress as she picked flowers. Pale, weak- yet her spirit was so strong .. she was the only reason he was still able to keep going; and it caused a soft smile to form on the young man's lips.
Straightening he would adjust the leather vest he wore, the zanpakuto at his side glinting softly in the light at its hilt- still greatly underdeveloped; but clearly not a stolen Asauchi, the blade being perfectly formed to his current physical build. The boy would wander forward- leading as he waited for Selena to pick the flowers she wished; for once they were relatively well off- a rarity, and could afford to actually stop and enjoy life a bit before lessons would continue later that day. Her skill in the physical arts was non-existent, but her spiritual capabilities were even greater than his own; it made him happy to see her so eager to continue bettering herself in every way possible. It reminded him even more of his own desire to grow strong and protect her; and one day when he was strong enough .. to help the world better itself.
They would travel down the road- Selena holding his hand lightly as she hummed; the flowers she had picked in her free hand. A large basket on his own back, supporting their other material goods- what little of it they had, including their gathered money and food. A large straw hat rested on his head, dressed in far less well made clothing then his little sisters dress, preferring only a pair of Geta, old shorts, and a leather vest with a throwaway sash to support the blade which appeared to be the only "expensive" item on him. Though anyone that knew what they were doing would understand just what the blade truly was. As they moved forward, they would begin to approach a small village in the outer districts, one they had not been too yet in their travels. Though it appeared to be mostly the same story, a few small stalls- multiple huts, the occasional group of people wandering through the streets.
There were shady men, but also children running about laughing- it was the usual story; but Gin didn't lower his guard and kept his hand firmly wrapped around Selena's as she glanced around curiously before looking up at him, large honey brown eyes blinking lightly as she spoke.
"Are we going to stay here tonight, Gin?" she asked, causing him to slow and debate the question as he glanced around them. It appeared safe enough, calm for the most part- if they had a few rooms open somewhere for some ryo he didn't see a reason they couldn't stay the night here, it was safer then the roads. The hollow had gotten more active lately for some reason and he didn't really trust the surroundings enough to sleep. Offering a soft smile down to her he should nod lightly before speaking;
"We can try. If they have a free room and don't mind us staying the night I don't see why not. Maybe they have some injured they need healed as well .. you could practice and earn our place here at the same time." Her smiled brightened as she clapped excitedly, releasing his hand to do so as he chuckled- allowing it. He knew she would stay close, and true to habit she even reached up and lightly grasped his vest's edge as he would curiously move toward a group of three adults that were chatting casually, bowing his head lightly and offering a soft smile- blue eyes looking up at them.
"Pardon us. Is there anywhere you know of that may have an open room for a night here?" his tone was polite, restricted- knowing that he was still a child in most individuals eyes, even if they eyed the sword and debated him silently every time- he was used to that. After a moment, one of the two women would step forward a bit and direct his attention to her as she offered a soft smile- sadly; orphans were common place in the Rukongai. It was part of life, and as she glanced down at the doe-like girl she would focus on the young man- covered in scar's already, body hardened with combat and training- it was clear he was no innocent new-blood orphan, and yet he retained manners to a degree. After a moment she would nod and jerk a thumb to the walkway to the west that would lead toward the small outcropping.
"You're welcome to stay awhile .. as long as you earn your keep. I already let one kid stay, no harm letting you two have the other spare building." she spoke in a stern tone, but there was a hint of motherly kindness as an undertone- and it reminded him of his own mother, now long dead. He offered a smile and bowed respectfully in agreement and thanks- to the women's surprise the young girl did the same instead of dancing about childishly.
"Thank you very much!" they spoke in union, causing a soft smile or two before he straightened and began heading to the directed location- calling back simply over his shoulder;
"Please let me know if you need anything! My names Ginjo; I'm pretty good at most stuff and what I'm not good at Selena is!" A light wave was the response, and they continued moving forward as he glanced at the small outcropping of two buildings and a garden. One building was larger, holding multiple rooms- he assumed that was the main house the women owned. The other was a small two-room building it would appear, and he curiously stepped forward before raising his hand- recalling someone else was apparently here as well as Selena lightly grasped his vest once more. His knuckles lightly cracked against the door to get the attention of whomever may be within, awaiting the response instead of just barging in.
