Rufino Tauro strode along the halls of Las Noches, or at least what was left of them, as he made his way towards the throne room alongside his Fraccion Consumption. In reality Consumption was no more a Fraccion than Tauro was a still an Espada and as far as the Arrancar was aware mere Privaron Espada were not allowed to have lieutenants. Despite that his connection to his right hand man remained strong and he refused to lose such a stalwart ally despite the lack of official backing for the other Arrancar’s position.
With a dark expression Tauro went over the past few days in his mind. Not too long ago he and Consumption had arrived in Las Noches for the first time in 7 years to find their former kingdom in an utter shambles, even the once great citadel had been reduced to ruins although the efforts of reconstruction work could be seen here and there. It’d still be some time before one could really call Las Noches a fortress again though. Regardless once coming upon the destroyed remnants of their home the duo had split up to cover the huge area of the Hollow Capital in an effort to find the ruler of their kind.
In the end it was Tauro who found the King of all Hollow first and boy had he been disappointed.
To his dismay not only had his home become a shadow of it’s former self but so too had his people to the point that the leader of the Hollow had turned out to be a Gillian. Not even a Gillian-Class Arrancar but a pathetic unevolved beast albeit a surprisingly erudite one. Tauro had planned to follow the paper King until someone more appropriate came along and in that time he would have made himself invaluable to the weak leader and once more ascended to the title of Espada where he belonged. From this lofty position Tauro would have disseminated his belief that all Shinigami, the eternal oppressors, must be purged so that Hollow-Kind could be free and this could only come to pass once all Hollow joined together as the brethren they were to stand strong against the Soul Society.
Unfortunately even the best-laid plans of mice and men, or in this case Hollow, often go awry.
The fool of a Menos managed to get himself overthrown and now Tauro was being summoned to stand before their new ruler. He truthfully had absolutely no idea what to expect from her, and apparently it was indeed a Queen, not that this fact was very important sadly it was about the only definite fact he had managed to get out of the various innumerable that he’d cornered to try and get some information. Some of the stories said that the new Queen was a former Espada but even that seemed unsure.
He sighed softly and give a slight shrug at his own ponderings. The upheavals that Hollow society had undergone seemed to have purged the upper ranks leaving only confusion and uncertainty behind. No one really seemed sure exactly what was left after the cataclysmic event nor what was going to happen next.
'No wonder so few of the strong stuck around. Everyone with half a brain probably got out to escape the inevitable fallout.’
Glancing over at Consumption he frowned at his companion before speaking "Any ideas what we are to expect from this meeting? I haven’t been able to find out anything about this new Queen.” he paused to curse angrily ”I hadn’t expected Cazador to lose his throne so swiftly. We haven’t even managed to establish ourselves yet."
Taking a deep breath to calm himself he shook his head slightly ”This meeting could be the beginning or end of everything and we haven’t the slightest idea who the Queen is or what her temperament will be.”
Tauro had seen some mad monarchs in his time and his glorious return could very easily be stamped out by the whims of a powerful madwoman.
Whatever else the red haired man might have said was cut short as they arrived at the doors of the throne room. The Privaron’s hands shook slightly with suppressed anger. Even at the sight of the ruined doors he could remember the last time he stood within these halls under the gaze of Sōgetsu Voltaire, the Shinigami King. His sheer power had forced Tauro to bend the knee despite his utter hatred of the Soul Reapers and yet not long after breaking his pride with this act Tauro had been informed that he would no longer be Séptima Espada.
Taking another breath he stilled his mind and emotions. This was not then. The past was done and though he could never have revenge against the bastard he could at least take solace in his death.
Glancing at his companion for confirmation that he too was prepared for what might come Tauro put his hands against the throne room doors and pushed them open. As they swung inwards he stepped into the room with all the confidence he could muster.
“Privaron Espada #107, Rufino Tauro, reporting as commanded.” he responded in a militaristic fashion instinctively falling back into his old manner from all those years ago.
