Additional Information/Notes
The thread "Goodbye For Now?" is still in progress, but it is more or less just the capping thread for the milestone portion of this, the escalation/2nd Power moment happened in "Angel of Mercy". There were two other threads that provided minor filler information for Angeni's mindset following the Invasion, but unfortunately they were abandoned by one or more of the participants so they weren't completed. If whoever grades this would like to read the threads for the aforementioned information, I'll link them below. The next arc for Angeni will center on the journey she takes to hone her spiritual abilities and also her quest to find her purpose and to become a better/stronger person physically and spiritually.

Second Release Description:
At first glance, it would appear that no change occurs when Angeni invokes this power. On closer inspection, however, the change becomes quite apparent. Whereas before when her power was being utilized a silver glow would illuminate her eyes, now the color of her eyes changes completely, with the glow acting as an overlay to the perfected ivory beneath. A silver mist enshrouds her, creating a slight distortion for those that look at her, much like that created by a heat shimmer. The mist itself is composed of the same energies she is capable of wielding, yet it is inherently harmless until she chooses imbue it with additional effects. Intermittently, wisps of the silvery mist trail from her body. When she moves, the trails become more prevalent, creating a blurring effect with each movement. The final change is not one that is aesthetic, but rather auditory. The voice that was once full of warmth and joviality takes on monotone, yet ghostly echo.
Second Release Ability:
Soul Severance
From the moment her power awakened, Angeni has had noticeably robust control over spiritual energies, whether they be within herself, within others, or within her surroundings. In nearly every instance where she has used her power, it has been benevolent in nature, in some cases even awakening the latent powers of individuals with the inclination for spiritual awareness. Due to recent events, she has instead decided to focus on a more detrimental aspect of her power instead.
This new aspect is actually two-pronged. Upon being struck by any of Angeni's attacks, whether spiritually based or physical, Angeni's target(s) become marked. Once a target has become marked, this spectral brand persists until either Angeni is incapacitated or the power itself is deactivated. Upon further interaction with the brand, Angeni is capable of severing the target's connections to their spiritual abilities, thereby rendering them unusable for a short period of time. Depending on the difference in skill level between Angeni and her target(s), the disability can be lengthened or shortened, respectively.

Goodbye For Now? - Major Thread (In Progress)
From the moment she actively became a spiritualist, Angeni has had interest in the happenings taking place in the East. Specifically, many of the rumors surrounding the connections to the events in New York and Texas being the result of spectral combatants with otherworldly abilities. It was on this premise, combined with her own curiosity and an inherent need to want to offer her help however possible, that lead her to relocate to Karakura itself. A short time later, she became a member of Vigilance, an organization of spiritualists and their sympathizers tasked with protecting the world from events such as those that had happened in both America and frequently in Japan. It is here that her story truly begins.
A few months into her new life as a Karakura citizen and shortly after beginning her time as a recruit in Vigilance, she still maintains her view that everyone is capable of good. During an otherwise uneventful visit to the local outdoor market, she happens to witness a strange and seemingly injured man stumbling into an alleyway. Despite very adamant warnings from Chayton, Angeni still approaches Marshal to offer her assistance. It isn't until she actually focuses her senses properly on him that she senses the dark energies festering within him. She takes it upon herself to attempt to purify Marshal's reiryoku, but the endeavor hits an unexpected snag when he invokes his power in a clouded frenzy and attacks her, injuring her.
Even with the sudden assault, Angeni remains determined to help Marshal and still holds onto the belief that he is truly a good person. She proceeds to continue her purification attempt, but this time goes about it in a completely different manner; she exhibits her power and combat capabilities to show that she can dish out just as much punishment as she receives. Once she has incapacitated Marshal, against further protest from Chayton and with the possibility that he could be an enemy, Angeni brings him to Vigilance Tower in order to treat his injuries and monitor his recovery. Marshal makes a surprisingly rapid recovery and requests to leave. Although Angeni agrees, with lingering doubt, she alters a small portion of Marshal's spirit in order to keep him constantly within her awareness. The encounter serves as an abrupt introduction to the spiritual world she had so recently become an inhabitant of.
Although the encounter with Marshal was still somewhat fresh in her mind, Angeni continued on with her day-to-day activities as well as her duties as a Vigilance member. Unfortunately for her, tedium was beginning to set in and homesickness was slowly creeping up on her. Deciding that perhaps a visit back to her family in America was in order, Angeni made arrangements to spend some time in America. With only a week until her departure date, she found herself in one of Karakura's supermarkets fretting over what exactly she wanted to cook for dinner. After a rather juvenile process of choosing, she departed and left the store. Along the way, she happened to encounter a lost young girl having trouble with a map of the local area.
A casual glance in passing caught her curiosity about the girl, and shortly after her inherent need to Guide others brought her back to speak with the girl. Through an initially brief exchange, Angeni learns that Freyleif is an Icelandic Quincy that had more or less been dropped in Karakura and left to find her own way with little to no assistance. Several kind gestures on Angeni's part, beginning with helping the struggling girl with her fussy hair and leading up to her inviting the girl to lunch and offering her training with her Quincy abilities, lead to the two developing a bond and becoming friends. As the dinner progressed and eventually reached its conclusion, Freyleif became comfortable enough to exhibit her Quincy abilities for Angeni, to which Angeni responded with a display of her own by stabilizing Freyleif's Quincy weapon after it had been created. Following the exchange of power exhibition, Angeni further offered her assistance to the young Quincy by also opening her home to the girl should she need a place to stay during her time in Karakura.
Rather than begin her training immediately, however, Freyleif expressed interest in seeing the Vigilance Tower. Angeni happily obliged, being that there was already work that she needed to complete at the Tower in the first place. A brief discussion about the tower itself ensued, but it was quickly abandoned when Angeni noticed just how exhausted the girl was from her trip. She felt a great deal of sympathy for her, and resolved that she couldn't rightly leave the girl to fend for herself in such an unfamiliar place. The girl needed help, she needed Stability, she needed Guidance. It was then that she decided that she would be the one to provide that for the girl. With that in mind, Angeni made it official and became Freyleif's legal guardian.
Angeni had taken in a wayward young girl and set the foundation for a family of her own, but that didn't take away from her intentions to visit her blood relatives. And so, at the end of the week Angeni completed her travel to America. Her first stop wasn't Arizona and her reservation, however. Instead, decided to explore the tourism scene of New York City. What was supposed to have been a mere vacation stop turned out to be much more. Not even a day into her visit to New York, her vacation became business as usual when she sensed Hollow activity in the nearby area. Upon arriving on the scene, she encountered a fellow Vigilance member and a mercenary attempting to combat the Hollow through conventional means. A third Vigilance member also appeared to be present nearby, yet due to the advanced nature of his abilities, even Angeni's sensory was unable to pinpoint him. Chalking it up to paranoia, she instead decided to turn her focus to the unnamed mercenary. Angeni's initial introduction of her brother and herself is met with no short amount of abrasiveness, but it is quickly overshadowed by Jack expressing his interest in learning how to properly combat Hollows.
Angeni had some reservations about teaching him because of his idea of combating Hollows, but she eventually lets them fall to the wayside upon realizing that Jack's past experiences with the soul-devouring creatures validated what she had already learned about Hollows. Albeit her only experiences with them had been with the more basal and savage Hollows, Angeni stiil agreed to honor his request. After explaining that conventional weapons were wholly ineffective against spiritual beings, Angeni shows another facet of her power and condenses the energies she had previously used to manifest Chayton in order to create a supplement to jump-start Jack's spiritual power growth. He accepts and imbibes the orb without hesitation, much to Angeni's surprise. Immediately after, Jack extends an offer of gratuity and invites Angeni to lunch in order to further discuss the prospect of his membership in Vigilance as well as the process of his spiritual abilities being awakened. Though for the most part the ride is passed in silence and much of Angeni's focus was divided between maintaining the orb's stability and gazing at the passing scenery, an unnecessary act of brutality on Jack's part leaves her questioning whether her choice to help him was truly a good idea or not.
Rather than let the act go unquestioned, Angeni chastises Jack's choice of reaction and holds to her convictions, voicing her disdain for such acts against innocent and spiritually unaware individuals. Jack apologizes for his actions, but what he does next further surprises her; he offers to cease all mercenary work and contracts himself directly under Angeni's employ for an indefinite length of time. The tension is dissuaded, yet Jack still seemed to be on edge and wary of their surroundings. In order to put him at ease, Angeni assures him that she is keenly aware of everything happening in their area and states that they are safe. Following their departure from the restaurant, the pair traveled back to Jack's home. Once there, Angeni proceeded to release the energy of the orb within Jack, a task that she had not yet performed before that moment. Angeni remains by Jack's side throughout the entire process, willing to offer further assistance should he need it. Jack recovers relatively quickly, and before Angeni leaves she inducts him into Vigilance with the agreement that they would meet again upon her return to Japan.
With the brief sidetracking that took place in New York dealt with, Angeni was finally able to continue with her vacation and safely returned to Arizona. But of course, nothing ever goes as planned or intended. Not even moments after a long-awaited reunion with their father, Angeni and Chayton are once more thrown into battle against a Hollow that rampages through the airport. The pair are able to easily dispatch the Hollow and gain the admiration of the people present, but a particularly vocal young man steps forward to question her abilities. When the momentary apprehension towards him passes, Angeni senses that Jian has fallen into a bout of self-deprecation and lacks faith in not only himself, but his power as well. Once again she found herself wanting to help someone who had lost their way, yet with Jian it was something different. She could sense that he was capable of much greater feats than he gave himself credit for, and she became determined to restore both his confidence and his powers. Though he accepts her offer for lodging over the duration of his stay in Arizona, he was not yet ready to regain what he had lost. It appeared that Angeni truly had a nigh insurmountable task ahead of her, that much could be sensed just from his spirit alone.
Even in spite of the long car ride from the airport to their home, Angeni and Jian were able to form the rudimentary foundations of a friendship. From their talk, they learned of the powers they were each possessed, and Angeni was also able to learn just what had happened to leave Jian in such a spiritually broken state. Yet that wasn't all that she learned from him, a faint glimmer of hope in the form of a rekindling of his spiritual power. A mere flicker of longing and excitement in his spirit had been enough to tell Angeni that while externally he may not have been ready to return to the person he once was, internally a small part of him wished to be complete once again. Following a more formal introduction of Angeni's mother, the pair of spiritualists were separated temporarily to prepare for dinner. The hospitality shown to Jian by Angeni and her family left him in slight shock, and a subsequent conversation with her father revealed that Angeni's kindness and goodwill were deeply rooted in her; she had always been the type of person she is now.
Following a dinner in which the two learned even more about each other and their friendship developed further, Angeni found herself in a moment of contemplation that evening. Reflecting on her growth as a spiritualist, she allowed not just her senses to drift, but rather she herself, lingering on a halfway point between the living world and the spiritual world as her mind wandered. Despite the much appreciated words of encouragement from Chayton, Angeni still doubted her own capabilities to grow. The self-reflection was interrupted before a true conclusion could be drawn. Just beyond the door, she had sensed Jian's spiritual energy making a real effort to return. Sensing such determination in someone with such broken conviction gave Angeni the assurance she needed. Others believed in her already, now she needed to find the strength to believe in herself.
The time to meet with the elders, powerful mystics that resided at a place of neither the living world or the spiritual world, had finally come. Even knowing of them and having met them several times beforehand, Angeni still mirrored Jian's apprehension about meeting them. She knew of the expectations they held for her, and she was justifiably concerned that the progress she had made so far would not be enough. As it stood, her first test of spiritual growth would come sooner than she expected. The entrance to the elders' building stood barred by unmoving slabs of stone. Angeni could sense them just beyond, their essence standing out like brightened beacons in contrast to the latent energy around them. Their destination lay so close, yet at the same time it was so very far away. This was her first test; in order for their journey to truly begin, she needed to open the way. Any doubt that remained within her would have to be abolished. And so it was. Calling upon her power, not just channeling it but actually wielding it, she removed the earthen barrier and thus took the first steps on a new journey.
Meeting with the elders had the intended outcome, yet there was something more that was accomplished. The bond that had before been merely platonic became spiritual as well. Through the machinations of the elders, the soul memories of Angeni and Jian were exchanged and their fates were tied together. They would need to move forward together and grow together, to learn from one another. With the words of the elders still fresh in their minds, Jian made the decision that she had been waiting to hear; he wanted his power back. Although she was glad that he had taken that step, there was still some very obvious concern for his safety. With Jack she had only awakened what was already there, but with Jian, she would have to break apart his soul and reconstruct it to fix the damage that had been done. Failure meant certain death for him, but success meant that he would regain what he had lost; the reward was worth the risk. Luckily for them both, thanks in so small part to Angeni's talent with her powers, the ritual succeeded. Angeni could not only see the change in Jian, she could sense it as well. Spending the remaining few days with Jian resting and Angeni honing her abilities, the two made the decision to depart, setting off for their next destination: Egypt.
Their arrival in Egypt passed with no real significance, and for a moment, Angeni believed that they would be able to simply be tourists. A good portion of the first day had even been spent discussing the process of purifying spirits. They had even decided to visit the Cairo museum, much to both of their delights. But of course, "normal" wasn't something that spiritualists were able to benefit from. Not even a few minutes had passed since they arrived before the illusion of normalcy was shattered. Like a scene from a bad movie, the two were assaulted by a mummy of all things. But it was not Angeni that first sprang into action, but rather Jian. Despite having the power to protect them, she still lacked the courage in her control over the new abilities she had gained to truly use them. It took seeing her friend fighting for his life and chastisement from her brother to find her conviction. Jian needed her, and her own fear was holding her back. Not anymore. The power she had once been afraid of was unleashed upon the mummy, trapping it within the stone and allowing her to better focus her senses upon it. It was from this glimpse into its spiritual composition that she saw the mummy as what it truly was: a mere shell being controlled from elsewhere. With that in mind, rather than purify it or simply disperse the energy within, Angeni outright destroyed it.
Following a brief discussion during which Angeni mended Jian's injuries, the two departed the museum. The conversation that had been started in the museum was revisited upon their settling into their hotel room again, Jian voicing his unease with her cavalier way of peering into his soul without his permission. Rather than endanger their friendship by arguing the point, Angeni instead acquiesced to his request, albeit she would still continue to hone her ability to read souls and develop her sensory abilities. The next morning, despite not being completely aware, Angeni performs another impressive display of her dominion over spiritual energies and of her sensory prowess by clearing away the dense latent energies that hung in the air while simultaneously suppressing the presences of the inhabitants in Cairo. With that done, they were able to pinpoint the location of the puppeteer whom had attacked them the evening before.
For the first time, Angeni was actually enraged by an opponent. For someone to treat spirits the way that this woman did, it was unforgivable. In that moment, Angeni let both her spiritual power and the new elemental abilities she had developed run free, tearing through the burial chamber and eviscerating the mummified puppets that were sent to attack them. Yet she didn't stop there. The woman had given Angeni a glimpse of the darker side of humanity; she decided to repay the desecration of spirits being performed with an act equally as atrocious. With no feeling of remorse or a thought against it, Angeni delved into a more sinister aspect of her power and tore the woman's soul from her body, severing her link to the power she had so recently used to enslave the spirits and force them to do her bidding. As a final act of retribution, Angeni banished the woman into the very world she had so recently sought to desecrate. Unfortunately, during this time Angeni's power still ran rampant, and thus spilled forth to engulf not only the pyramid within which she currently stood, but also the adjacent two as well. Although the pyramids had been destroyed physically, Angeni could still sense the residual energies that had flowed through them, resolving to return at a later time to restore them to their former glory. Knowing that they would likely be arrested for the crime perpetrated, albeit unintentionally, Angeni and Jian departed the area. The following day, the two friends parted ways, Jian deciding to continue the next leg of his journey alone.
Since returning to Japan from her vacation, the previously eventful life that Angeni had previously enjoyed began to drift into monotony. On one day in particular, she had been resigned to lounging beside the pool of her home, reflecting on just how boring the day had truly been. Eventually she decided that perhaps sunbathing wasn't worth spending an entire day doing, instead deciding to venture out into the city in search of something interesting to do. Her path eventually lead her to one of the larger parks of the city. Continuing through the park, her senses began to hone in on a familiar presence, yet it was one that she had not encountered for quite some time. Drawing closer to the presence, she finally laid eyes on the person that the presence emanated from and confirmed what she had sensed; it was a close friend from her childhood.
When the initial surprise at encountering one another once again had subsided, Angeni promptly invited Melody to her home for lunch. As the two spent more time together over the course of the meal's preparation, Angeni began to sense something in Melody that she hadn't noticed before. She had witnessed the blushing and heard the scattered compliments, but now she had read something else present in the woman's soul; she had more interest in Angeni that just friendship. Initially she is unsure of it, and thus begins to test the waters, performing certain actions to gauge Melody's reactions. Eventually she outright questions Melody about her interest, having realized that she herself shared the interest and simply hadn't noticed it until the signs were staring her in the face. And so she took the leap, they both did, accepting the feelings that had always been there and making the decision to pursue a relationship. She had once given up on romance, but perhaps with Melody, with one that had always had feelings for her yet had never revealed them, she could be happy.
Despite such a happy moment taking place in her life, she was still the legal guardian of a very rambunctious and troublesome teenager. For a while, Freyleif had managed to behave herself. But as teenagers are wont to do, that streak was broken not once, but twice. Angeni had given her the benefit of the doubt and assured her superiors that it would not happen again, but Freyleif had made her seem like a liar, once again causing trouble and collateral property damage. Angeni's nigh infinite patience had finally worn thin with the teen's antics. Immediately after the latter incident, Angeni angrily confronted the Quincy teen on her destructive actions.
Absolutely livid with the girl's disrespect towards the town and spirits, albeit them being Hollows, Angeni expressed her disappointment with the girl and grounded her. Yet despite wanting to punish the girl, seeing her crying and regretful face, coupled with sensing how lost the girl truly was, Angeni buckled. Although she was still angry with the girl, she realized that she simply needed Guidance, something that she hadn't exactly been privy to throughout her life thus far. She relented, reducing the length of the girl's punishment and also promising to be more present for the girl and helping her more often. In a moment of reflection, Angeni began to realize just how difficult it was being a parental figure to someone.
Returning to her work at the Vigilance Tower was a reprieve from the stress of monitoring Freyleif's activities, though not by much. For a while, it was the usual file work and occasional patrols. But of course, her luck with experiencing "normal" was beginning to reach its end. On a day that should have been routine as usual, Angeni found herself catching a cyber intrusion attempt on the database servers of the Tower. Momentarily stopping its progress, Angeni quickly descended to the bottom floor to confront the culprit. Ironically, the culprit was in fact another member of Vigilance. Following further conversation, Angeni healed Keenan's arms, despite the thoughts of hostility towards her that flashed through his mind, while continuing to question why he had chosen to break into the system instead of simply asking someone.
Now that she had a better understanding of the situation, Angeni agreed to grant Keenan the memories he sought. Drawing on her power once again, Angeni began to pull bits of the memories he wanted from the souls of the Tower's inhabitants, piecing them together and presenting them to Keenan. Amusingly enough, Keenan seemed to mistake the kindness she exhibited in healing his arms with a romantic interest in him. Although she stopped him and clarified the situation, Keenan still expressed some unease with how she had delved into his mind and soul to read him without his permission. The "trespassing" is forgiven on both ends and Angeni agrees to help Keenan reach his goal before parting ways.
Things were finally beginning to settle down once again. Freyleif had ceased her disruptive behavior, and the relationship between Angeni and Melody had continued to blossom. She wanted to believe that the outlandish occurrences had finally stopped and she could just enjoy a period of peace. Unfortunately, she was about to learn that it was simply the calm before a truly terrible storm. Despite Angeni's powerful sensory abilities, Freyleif became the victim of a near-fatal Hollow attack. Were it not for a pair of Shinigami that had shown up to rescue the young girl, it was likely that she would have been killed. For all of her promises to protect and watch over Freyleif, she had failed her when she needed her most. She owed a debt of gratitude to the duo of Shinigami that had come to Freyleif's rescue, but for the Hollows...there was only ire. Before she had thought of them as lost souls and regarded them with a large amount of pity, but no longer. There would be no more purification. From now on, if she combated a Hollow, she would do so with the intent to completely destroy it.
And so it fell to her to find them a new home, one that could be better protected. She needed to find a place that would provide them with peace of mind, a peace that was sorely needed after the events that had transpired. Yet with each unfit entry that she browsed, she became more and more pessimistic and certain that she would never find the right home for them. As luck would have it, fortune had decided to smile upon her. Just as she had began to give up hope, she found it, the perfect home for them. It was undoubtedly expensive, but cost didn't matter. The attack on Freyleif had been a humbling experience for them both. Even if she had to work nearly nonstop for weeks on end, she would do so if it meant providing safety for the ones she cared for. Her moment of revelry would soon be interrupted, however. Shortly after she had found the listing, she became aware of a pair of Shinigami who had visited the Tower. Rather that continue to spiritually follow their progress from her current location and speculate, she decided to greet the pair and question them directly.
While Karl seemed not to be much of a conversationalist, Kasumi was more than willing to speak with Angeni. Following a brief introduction, the two began to form a friendship and Angeni learned of the reason for their visit; they were here to hopefully find an old friend of Kasumi's. Gladly willing to offer her assistance, Angeni agreed to accompany Kasumi and hopefully aid her in finding the friend she sought. Unfortunately, it would turn out that their search was a fruitless one. Despite the original reason for her sojourn here going unfulfilled, Kasumi still managed to retrieve some of her friend's blueprints for old projects and the two learned that they shared similar abilities, albeit they manifested in different ways. Curious about the similarities they shared, Kasumi requested a demonstration of Angeni's power, to which Angeni happily agreed. Following an impressive display of power, Angeni created a pair of supplemental orbs of spiritual essence, giving them to Kasumi as a gift of their new friendship. With the agreement that Kasumi would visit again and tell her more about the spirit world, the two new allies parted ways.
Old habits die hard. It was an expression that Angeni had heard countless times in varying degrees of context. Suffice it to say, she was about to receive a firsthand experience of the saying much sooner than she would have liked. Even after promising and crying, after swearing that she would change her ways, Freyleif had once again slipped back into her previous habits of disruptive behavior. Her actions were beginning to wear on Angeni's already thinning patience. She would have to be more sternly disciplined. She needed to know that her destructive actions would no longer be tolerated. Fortunately for the young Quincy, the chastisement would be postponed due to a long overdue reunion. As it turned out, Jian had administered his own brand of punishment for Freyleif's actions. Although she didn't particularly agree with how he had gone about it, seeing Freyleif's disheveled and battered appearance had dissolved her anger and it was replaced with concern for the girl's well-being.
Throughout their conversation of becoming reacquainted, Angeni proceeded to heal Freyleif's injuries, effortlessly resetting the bone of her broken arm and mending it anew. Continuing to heal the Quincy's remaining injuries, Angeni listened as Jian informed her of his latest endeavor. He intended to organize the spiritualists of Karakura and their sympathizers to defend the city. The intent was simple; they would create a defense force to respond to threats and not have to rely on the Shinigami to rescue them. Despite being indebted to the Shinigami that had helped Freyleif, Angeni knew that believing they would always arrive to save them during a crisis was a foolhardy notion. What's more, she began to realize that perhaps Vigilance wouldn't be able to provide the catharsis she needed to truly achieve her goals. With that in mind, her choice was simple; in a single act she severed her membership to the now defunct group and instead devoted her efforts to this new budding organization. She would help it, alongside Jian, she would offer the Guidance necessary for the group to flourish.
It wasn't long before Freyleif had decided to become more vocal, breaking down in a fit of self-deprecation and depression. She even went so far as to violently lash out at Jian for his perceived hand in her weakness. Rather than allow Freyleif to wallow in her self-pity, Angeni stepped in to comfort the young girl. Thanks to a combination of her gentle words and using her own calming spiritual aura to suppress that of Freyleif's tumultuous one, she was able to soothe the girl's worries and reassure her of her true value. Following a more personal conversation with Jian regarding his latest and most questionable choice, Angeni opened her home to him, adamantly refusing to allow her best friend to remain a homeless vagabond. By the end of the conversation, she had also agreed to allow him to use the home for lodging and a base of operations for his new organization. The terms were set, with only one stipulation; no Hollows or their more evolved humanoid counterparts would be allowed on the grounds. There was a limit to her kindness, and even in spite of Jian's recounting of the assistance he received from the benevolent Arrancar Takua, none of it extended to those murderous beasts.
After the discussion with Jian regarding her overprotective nature towards Freyleif, Angeni began to exercise much more leniency with the girl. To that effect, she had allowed the girl to travel alone to Germany in order to attend a gathering of Quincy called by the current king. Apparently, however, she had been a bit too lenient with the girl. She actually stayed away much longer than originally stated. Although she had returned to Japan, a subsequent encounter with an enigmatic thief lead to the girl spending more time away from home and even developing feelings for the stranger. Eventually she did return home, and attempted to hide her recent activities from Angeni. Unfortunately for the young Quincy, Angeni was already well aware of what she had been up to since her return to Karakura. It would turn out, however, that Freyleif had been hiding much more from Angeni than she had originally thought.
Much to Angeni's surprise, the Quincy actually confessed her true feelings towards her, leaving her completely at a loss for words. Eventually she regained her composure and discussed the matter with the girl. From there she offered her the opportunity to better decide on her feelings....by removing herself as Freyleif's guardian and offering to go out on a date with the girl. She wanted her to be certain that Freyleif knew exactly what her feelings for Wraith and for Angeni really were. Throughout the date, the two continued to nurture the bond that they had already developed, growing closer than before. Eventually, Angeni shared her own intention that she had decided on recently; she intended to seek out the Cardinal Beasts of Kyoto in order to attune her elemental powers to them and thereby enlist their assistance. As expected, Freyleif agreed to help accomplish Angeni accomplish the goal. Towards the end of the evening, however, things had taken a slightly more serious tone when Freyleif requested something unexpected from her; she wished to learn more about intimacy in order to prove her feelings for Wraith. Even if she was no longer her legal guardian, the request left her dumbfounded. But that bewilderment soon gave way to mild irritation with the thief. After leaving a rather pertinent request for a meeting at the thief's home, she explained to Freyleif that her request was better reserved for someone she truly cared for and for when she was much older.
For once since they had acquired the new home, Angeni had a day that she could completely devote to her own enjoyment. Freyleif had been spending a bit more time with her new companion, with some mild disdain on Angeni's part, and Melody had been gone for quite a bit of time. It was true that Angeni worried for her, but she felt that if there was something bothering Melody, she would speak with her when she was ready. Even in spite of their time apart, her feelings for her had not diminished. For now, however, she had a day to herself that she could spend without obligations. Enjoying the nice weather and an accompanying ice cream cone, she decided to sate her curiosity and visit the quarantine zone of the Incursion.
As she explored the ruined grounds left behind by that terrible event, it began to have an awakening effect on her power. With each moment she spent in ground zero, the latent spiritual energies that had lingered behind distorted her perception, to the point where she had began to actually sense the ancient presences that still remained. In response, her power began to draw energies from the environment and latch onto the particles, piecing together a reenactment of the events that happened years ago. Remotely aware of what she was witnessing, she began to toy with the idea that perhaps the reason she was seeing the scene was because she had the ability to remedy the event's outcome and return what the victims had been robbed of.
Her control over the manifestation and the clarity of her senses had reached such a level that she had actually began to believe that it was the actual event. At the moment of the scene's apex, Angeni had become so invested that she pushed herself to a dangerous limit to defend the conjured images. She managed to succeed in pushing past that limit in order to defend herself, expanding the influence of her power to erect a proper defense. The maneuver came at an unexpected cost to her, however, as the strain of her uncontrolled power separated her spirit from her body. Still tethered to her body on Earth, he spirit lingered listlessly in the divide between the world of living and the spirit world.
Through her own fault and power, Angeni had banished herself to a prison of her own creation. Unbeknownst to her, the place in which she currently dwelt was the Dangai, an area of space that existed outside of time's normal flow. But rather than resign herself to aimlessly wander in the darkness, she used the opportunity to continue her spiritual growth. The disconnection allowed her to better expand her senses, to the point where she was able to easily track the happenings on Earth even while not directly present there. From there, she learned what had befallen Freyleif and witnessed the true depths of Wraith's feelings for her. Not long after that, she sensed more spiritualists gathering together in response to something. Turning her eyes to the far off realm of Soul Society, she bore witness to the opening salvo of Obsession's Invasion. Despite her fear of that monstrous power and her doubt in her own abilities, she resolved to fight. Her friends were counting on her to assist them, there were innocent lives at stake, fear was a luxury she could no longer afford.
Harnessing the new control over her power that she had gained in the Dangai, she once again rejoined her spirit with her body. Once again in the living world, she first set about reviving the comatose young Quincy and mending both Freyleif and Wraith's injuries. Taking a moment to reconcile with Wraith for her false judgment against him, she proceeded to transport the three of them over to the gathering of spiritualist. Taking only a brief moment to speak words of caution to the gathered masses, she ventured ahead with Freyleif in tow. As she took her first steps onto the battlefield, she abolished all fear and doubt, steeling herself for the battle ahead.
While she didn't assume a combative role in repelling the Invasion, Angeni did exercise her own brand of assistance by utilizing her impressive healing abilities to tend to those wounded in battle against the Hollow-Breeds. Although she had requested that Freyleif remain within the safe haven created for her, of course the teen had other plans. As a result of her defiance, the Quincy was yet again attacked by Iko, however this time Freyleif's actions directly cost a helpful Shinigami his life. Upon returning to Angeni and practically demanding that the two of them have a sparring match despite what was happening around them, Angeni had finally had enough. Determined to once and for all humble the tactless and unruly teenager, Angeni lashed out, momentarily stealing the young girl's spiritual abilities. Even with the subsequent interference on Freyleif's behalf by a lycanthropic Quincy claiming to be her bodyguard and a strange doctor, Angeni held fast to her decision to punish Freyleif. But with this encounter---despite its circumstances and route of progression---Angeni at last truly realized that keeping the girl further sheltered away from the world and coddling her wasn't what was best for her. After expressing her belief that Freyleif would find her true path, Angeni parted ways with her.
