Damn. Today had been going so well, until he'd gotten back to his lab. His latest harvest had been fruitful. He had managed to grab, and bring back all the way home, at least three new test subjects. It was a small, abandoned, single story building right on the coast line. While that is all a person could see from above, the whole complex was actually much larger, reaching ever downward, under the ground. He'd moved himself in here some time ago now. He had managed to set up quite the laboratory. The flooding of the last two lower levels were convenient, a hole in the wall under the water level led straight into the ocean, and he could get in and out by a method his test subjects could not, even if they were to escape their bonds.
His mode of entry had to be slightly different when he had new equipment or new subjects. For this he'd have to use the front door and climb down through the now non-functioning elevator shaft. With the staircase missing in many places, this was actually the easier method of getting up and down, failing his usual aquatic way. It was because of this that being attacked on his way in through the front door had been such a surprise to him. One of his test subjects, how it'd managed to climb all the way up to the upper level, he had no idea. They'd struck him as he'd come in and it'd caused him to drop the three people he'd managed to grab. He could have gone after anyone of them, but his annoyance and anger would be directed to the one test subject, the one he'd already captured long ago, the one who should have already known their place.
He gave chase, but they were faster than he had hoped. It'd been a while ago now, he couldn't remember exactly how he'd caught this one in the first place. It was one of those, of the ones he had, that possessed heightened spiritual energy and, as such, had also doubled up as sustenance for him, as well as a valued subject for experimentation. Perhaps this explained why they were so desperate and frantic in their attempt to escape. They were fast, but slowly but surely he was catching up. Unfortunately, the length of the chase thus far had forced him to stray too far from his home base. The two of them were now running across a wide, open, park area. This was not good. This wasn't how he hunted and having to run after a target like this was... irritating, not to mention beneath him and he hated the way it must have, would have looked to anyone watching. Despite all that, he continued obsessively in his pursuit, determined to capture, squash and punish this little annoyance. He was unaware of the fact that he had drawn attention, in his anger he disregarded the vulnerability and risk behind what he was doing.
