Hello, hello!
Tired of seeing me, yet? I know I am!
But today, I've got something that just might have a little bit to offer to everyone and anyone.
First, it's a well-known fact that I made Shun Minamoto for a sole purpose: To oppose Vaizards. I saw an impending rush to normalize halfbreeds in the Seireitei and, in the interests of preserving that setting conflict, made a character zealously opposed.
That's also a lie. I made this character for two, express purposes. The Vaizard issue is one, yes. The other?
To bring the Alternate Universe shenanigans of Alter Tova and Kyousuke Tsukimiya to everyone else. People seemed to love it back then, pondering what could have been or what might still be. It gave everyone a reason to imagine not just a different form of their characters, if decisions and circumstances had been different, but entirely different worlds.
Now I'd like to offer everyone a blank check to come up with their own, and to experience them first-hand.
What is Stranded: Minamoto Missing?
This is the name of my latest arc, one that will not take place in the Bleach Gotei world as we know it.
At the very end of his battle with Tokiyo Fujikagi, Shun Minamoto's powers went completely haywire due to his brush with becoming a Prestige+ class of soul. If you've read his Evolved Zanpakutou power in detail, you know it allows him to step out into the Garganta, the Void Between Worlds, and back in again.
Which is exactly what Shun did. But his powers, in that moment, snapped the proverbial cables that bind all souls to their home universe. When he stepped back into the world as part of his teleportation, it wasn't our world. He appeared somewhere different, both familiar and decidedly alien.
This is where you come in.
Together, I want us to come up with a collection of not just threads, not just alternate versions of your characters, but of entire worlds. For instance: Perhaps we'll find a version of Tokiyo Fujikagi that was never brought to the Soul Society, and instead ended up as an Arrancar? The watershed moments that divide these worlds from our own can go very, very far back -- as far back as we'd like!
There's no limit to what we can come up with, and I want to explore as many of these possiblities with you all as possible!
A final note here is that Tokiyo Fujikagi, our Dear Leader, has given all participants permission to use this as a normal thread for GP and Milestone purposes. The reason for this is because of Shun Minamoto's involvement. When he inevitably returns to this world, he'll be able to bring with it the knowledge (or things? maybe even people?) of all of these places and people -- which can, if you're interested, end up changing your character's destiny by giving them knowledge they wouldn't have otherwise had.
What does this offer veteran players and their characters?
Having been talking about this to a limited crowd for the past two years, a question I got frequently was whether or not veterans would be interested in this at all.
In fact, I've found veterans to be just as excited by the ideas as new players! It allows them to ponder what might have happened to their character, and to not only explore these ideas in their thoughts but experience them. For many, this is an incredibly fun experience that can also vastly improve their understanding of their own character by looking at them from a new perspective entirely.
What does this offer new players and their characters?
While new players don't have the history with their character to be quite as interested in the "what ifs" and "what could have beens", they are also the most equipped to make use of what they might discover.
A famous example is Kyousuke finding that he enjoyed his famous, family-man Kyousuke Tsukimiya far more than the Kyousuke he played. Tragically, he murdered him instead.
You, however, might just find a path fo your character that you never considered could be so much fun. By examining, even early on, these other options, you'll find ideas that you might have never had before. This can be incredibly fun and, also, incredibly useful to you as a player.
How many threads can a single person have in this event, with you?
As many as they want!
If you want to explore a number of additional possibilities with your character, I'd love to help! There's no shortage of time here, and Shun will be visiting many, many worlds in his quest to get home.
Just how long will Shun be away, in-character?
For the characters in our world, he'll probably be away for a few months.
Shun, however, will experience ninety-nine years of time before he is able to sufficiently unravel the mystery of the multiverse. Unlike Kyousuke Tsukimiya before him, Shun Minamoto's powers do not naturally cross the boundaries between worlds in their base state. Therefore, he must acquire vast knowledge (kek) in order to use his ill-fit abilities to return home.
Do you have any specific goals?
This whole event came about when I decided that I wanted Shun Minamoto to pursue Grandmaster in both Zanpakutou Resonance and Zanpakutou Evolution. I knew the two Evolution masteries would be numbers six and seven, with seven requiring a story that is dedicated to actually improving the skill, as opposed to a side-effect of my character's other adventures.
This seems pretty dedicated, to me.
It will also lay the groundwork for my eighth mastery, which ties back into Zanpakutou Evolution.
Will you simply retire Shun Minamoto after this?
Not right away.
While this does begin Shun's "last hurrah", so to speak, it will not be his end. I do fully intend to finish him, he will not hang around forever.
When it happens fully depends on what comes back, and what Shun has left to accomplish.
Alright, nerd, you've sold me. When do we start?
In light of the upcoming holidays, and that brainstorming for this will require coming up with an Alternate Character for you and an Alternate World, I don't want to begin this in December.
So let's ring in the new year, shall we, with a start date of January 1st, 2017.
Who is playing and what's the synopsis on their world?
I'll list interested players and decided worlds/threads/characters. We can also, of course, have multi-character threads and not just one-on-one events!
If you'd like a thread, post here and we'll get together to discuss the details! I'll be listing threads below, and interested players below that as a reminder for myself.
Current Threads
This thread will be in chronological order in reference to Shun Minamoto's journey.
Minamoto Missing
Starring Knowledge and Alter Evelynn, Shun Minamoto appears in his first alternate world and finishes the strike that should have killed Tokiyo Fujikagi. As he watches the back of the suddenly-standing Captain Commander, his whole body is cleaved -- with surprising ease -- into two. On the other side of the cascade of blood, Shun Minamoto comes face to face with himself, and Evelynn Avana -- both in a haori! -- before he loses consciousness.
Interesting details include: A world where most Captains are around 200 Reiatsu, and even the Captain Commander (or King of Hueco Mundo) scarcely reach 300 Reiatsu or Prestige.
What's Left Behind
Starring Consequence, when Shun awakens next he finds himself in a mostly abandoned section of District 80 in the Rukongai. With no one around to learn about the world, Shun takes a moment to recover from his lastest unintended jump between worlds, only to be approached by his former friend and mortal enemy.
Interesting details include: Whatever the hell Tokiyo decides to do with it, so it's sure to be fucking stellar.
Like a Dragon
Starring Alter Arashi, Shun Minamoto appears in a world and is found by Kionchi's late wife. He quickly discovers that much of history has marched along normally, except for Arashi being chosen and Kionchi being killed in her stead -- but the only one who suspects the truth is the stranger to this new world.
I Am (Not) Your Angel
Starring Alter Mei Rowan, Shun is woken, on Earth, by a young Quincy girl, struggling to get through life and find her happiness.
Interesting details include: The Quincy are the dominant faction and while they haven't conquered any others, their individual strength is beyond contestation.
Balanced Scales
Starring Alter Melody Black, this thread takes place when Shun enters the world to find that the Gotei -- which never fully centralized as a military -- has been destroyed after eons of attacks and finished off by an invasion from Las Noches. The disparate Division are no more and Alter Shun Minamoto was attempting to rally the scattered Shinigami in Soul Society to take back the abandoned Seireitei, presumed to be fully of Hollows, prior to his sudden disappearance. The people mistake Shun for their Captain Commander and seek his leadership and guidance.
Interesting details include: The Gotei never fully centralized and was instead a loose band of Divisions that were largely autonomous. Therefore, other factions such as Humans, Quincy, and Hollows were able to launch successful assault until a more recent attack by Las Noches dealt the killing blow to the much weaker Gotei.
I Am (Not) Your Father
Starring Alter Chie Kira, Shun arrives in a world to find a small child that immediately recognizes him as 'Dad'. This leads, quickly, to meeting a mother he would never have suspected, in an alternate take on how Shun's family life could have gone.
Band of Thugs
Starring Alter Shigure, Shun visits a world where the Gotei never matured past a gang of powerful individuals in the Rukongai who also try to maintain the balance of souls. Alter Shigure is considered the overlord of this super-massive Rukongai.
Interesting details include: There is no Seireitei and the Gotei isn't a formal military.
The Devil You Don't
Starring Alter Levi, Shun appears in a world where his alternate counterpart has used Alter Levi to discover Shinigami Hollowification and Vaizards, which he has named "The Masked". Upon this discovery, and the great power it affords to any soul who makes it through the process, it has become a risky but required part of the Captain's Test that, unlike Bankai, not even a combat challenge can overcome. The source, Levi, however, has not manifested an Inner Hollow despite being the discovered source of the infection many decades ago.
Interesting details include: All Captains are required to be Vaizards.
My Empire of Dirt
Starring Alter Junko Gekido, Shun appears in Hueco Mundo to find a surprisingly powerful Hollow on the surface instead of the in underground Quartz Forest with the rest of the Menos-class Hollows. This Hollow happens to be a large dragon, and proves unexpected enough to draw the attention of the zealous Shinigami purifier.
In a Mirror, Mortally
Starring Alter Adimus, this world is one that wasn't as kind to the man that only ever sought to help and save others. Driven to desperation by the death of his family, the powerful Adimus takes on a Gotei much weaker than Shun's original home after slaughtering the forces of Las Noches. Shun arrives very shortly after the assault begins and hurries off to do what good he can for these people in peril.
Interesting details include: A Gotei made up for mostly 200 Reiatsu-range Captains that is under attack by Adimus. Las Noches has been destroyed and has not recovered. The Human spiritualists are united under the leadership of Adimus, Quincy included.
"Everything you suspect is true"
Starring Alter Shinpei Minamoto, Shun finds himself in a parallel present day where the Minamoto, complete with the lost sister Ayame, are alive and happy. However, none of them are, or ever were, Shinigami, and the family lives a quiet life in the Rukongai.
Welcome Respite
Starring Alter A.H., a very much needed moment of peace and quiet is found as Shun appears in a new world, past the edge of the Rukongai. In the endless forest beyond, Shun finds an old man living on his own in a shack of his own construction.
Start the Fire
Starring Alter Verbrennung, Shun awakens in Hueco Mundo once again to be found by a dark-skinned, flame-wielding Arrancar. His experiences so far have given him pause and, instead of lashing out immediately to cut down the monster, he stays a while and listens.
Interesting details include: Quincy reign supreme in this world, resulting in a three-year-old alliance between Las Noches and the Seireitei.
1984
Starring Alter Shinsei Madarame, Shun visits a world where the Seireitei has decided to abandon their role as shepherds and eradicated all human spiritualists, taking much firmer control of the world of the living and ruthlessly hunting down any human that develops "unnatural" abilities. Objecting to this tyrannical new Gotei, the overthrown forces loyal to the "old ways" have retreated to Hueco Mundo as a resistance, and Shun arrives shortly before their defacto leader -- Alter Shun Minamoto -- dies in combat.
Interesting details include: A revolution in the Gotei, human spiritualists and Quincy are eradicated, and a resistance is formed in Hueco Mundo.
The Royals
Starring Alter Amaya Kidachi as Confidence, Shun Minamoto arrives in the Hueco Mundo of yet another world. When he comes to, he finds himself face-to-face with a pink-haired woman who seems oddly fmailiar. She introduces herself as Confidence, a Transcendental, and that she had been waiting for him.
Double Blind Divinity
Starring Alter Munin, Shun arrives in a world where the entire Soul Society is controlled from the shadows by Alter Munin. Due to his fascination with Transcendence, he has taken control of the entire dimension and now uses it to try to foster the growth of Transcendentals in order to study the progression of their souls in as much detail as possible.
Interesting details include: A world that's an indeterminate number of centuries in the future.
