Verbrennung’s bloodcurdling screams rang out in Walkren’s ears as she hurtled down through the ashen air towards him. Before he knew it, she had dissolved and mixed with the soot hanging dead in the sky. There was so much debris drifting in the air, he couldn’t follow the quick movements of her new form, but he could feel her moving through the mess. The Arrancar’s reiatsu was hot and galvanized Walkren’s spiritual senses as he drew her path out in his mind. It led directly to him, and, as she approached, his only outward reaction was a smile tilting up on the right side of his face.
The rest of his body braced.
The blackened cinders that made up Verbrennung slammed away as she transformed back into her original form directly in front of Walkren, her knee slamming into his chest with the momentum that had carried her down from above. Air evacuated his lungs and he felt himself falling backwards, the heat that leaked from the Arrancar a distant thought. His skin sizzled and his robes started to burn away from her grip, but he just let himself smash into the glassed ground. His only arm splayed out as if to try and catch himself. A large crack formed in the fragile glass that began to remelt with Verbrennung’s presence. He defiantly locked eyes with the woman, their proverbial game of chicken taking on a new, more dangerous, meaning. The pain boiled over and he screamed back at the bitch who was burning him, “YOU ASKED FOR IT!”
The splayed hand, now partly covered in melting glass, clawed and immediately a pulse of energy flooded outward from each finger like ripples in a pond. An intricate sickly green pattern of runes and hieroglyphs danced outward on the melted glass, burning their power deep into the silicate. The circle of archaic iconography formed from Walkren’s impromptu spellcasting was wider than the radius of Verbrennung’s aura of torridity, but Kuroda would find himself on the outskirts of the glowing symbols. As soon as the last rune was complete, Walkren shouted and an ocean of spiritual power poured out of him, “Bakudo #93, Hekiran!”
The acidic green radiated with an intensity to rival Verbrennung’s beautiful orbs of fire that were her eyes. The two combatants were twisted together as a centerpiece to the circled frame of green that shimmered around them. The elaborately inked runes twisted and convulsed as the power picked up intensity. Clockwise they spun as sand, ash, and cinders alike all got caught up in the spinning energy. Like the first slow pushes of an overburdened cart, the energy churned around and slowly gained momentum until sand started to rapidly fly into the air. Whipping with the force of a hurricane, the Bakudo threatened to catch Verbrennung’s wings and carry her off into the air.
The clawed hand lifted and made a practiced gesture across his face as the storm built to it’s full intensity. They were completely covered by sand and soot now, the storm raging around them blocked any onlookers view. Verbrennung wouldn’t be able to escape either. The storm created an eye with which the two enemies would have to clash. Thin traces of Walkren’s reiryoku flowed and fluttered around with the storm, a proverbial net to catch any who might try to dash away from the raging storm. Walkren ripped his hand across his face and the white, half smiling, half crying demon mask formed out of nothing. Ink injected itself into his scalera and his hazel bled away for the deep red of his ‘demonic’ form. Through the torrent and whipping winds, Walkren’s demonic mouth opened and out from it poured a eerily familiar sickly red energy.
The orb of deep crimson quickly gathered, the sounds of ripping static mingled with Walkren’s mutated shouts. In an instant, he had gathered the destructive energy in front of himself to form the Hollow’s own primitive form of Kido. But this wasn’t a Cero. Any Arrancar could’ve immediately told you that. The image it created was that of a Cero, just like the image Walkren’s mask gave was that of a Hollow mask, but both were unnervingly off. It was so very slight that, in the heat of battle...or blinded by your own arrogance, it might go unnoticed. The static tearing crescendoed and Walkren released the burst of volatile energy to smack point blank into Verbrennung, carrying all the weight of Walkren’s released reiatsu.
