“Welcome, I'm glad that you all could make it.” Kasumi spoke up with a calm but almost unnaturally hard voice. Icy was the word that came to mind when her bright blue eyes with a steely edge to them looked up from the papers she had gathered in front of her.
It might have been slightly odd, perhaps even a bit uncomfortable to be forced to speak in front of a group of high-ranked people, but the young Shinigami had never been impressed by something so silly as one's position. More importantly, everyone behind the table was bound to serve her – now she only had to figure out if all of them actually would.
The day had been nothing if not chaotic. At least there were a couple of things she had managed to settle before the sun had disappeared behind the horizon. And while some other things were still uncertain, she felt as if there was no time to be wasted in their current turbulent situation. That's why the messages for the Captains meeting had been sent before she's had the opportunity to talk to Nanami. Quite unfortunate, really. Still, she couldn't change that now and would have to proceed to work with the people that were currently seated behind the oval table in one of the dusty offices of the First. With the books removed from the shiny wooden surface, only a small amount of papers was left in front of every seated Shinigami. An exception in the form of a six-to-seven-pages pile could be found on the other side of the table; it looked lost and lonely.
Silently, Kasumi let her gaze dwell over the current leaders of the Gotei. On her right she had Chinda Nagisa, the Captain of the Second, a Vaizard the young Captain Commander trusted with her life. The tall raven head was the only family she had now, and the only one she really needed.
Next to Nagisa another Vaizard was seated – a young man with dirty blonde hair whose true nature was still more of a secret, at least as far as Kasumi knew. His skills in Kidō, however, were already well-known throughout the entire Seireitei. Dekharr Walkren, Lieutenant of the Third and General of the Kidō Corps was probably as new to Captains meetings as Kasumi was.
Across of the Kidō specialist you could find the current Lieutenant of the Fifth, a tall man with dark hair – Ogawa Genki. He had put on the badge some hours ago, but Kasumi was certain that he wouldn't do worse than she had during the very short amount of time she had carried it. Besides, the man was strong and had a certain type of charisma. That was probably the very reason why he seemed to be mostly liked by his subordinates who were ready to follow him into battle; Kasumi couldn't ask for more from the one leading the Fifth, not at this point. The Gotei needed time to recover from the blow it had been served, and recover they would, if only bit by bit.
The last person present in the room was a woman with long, black hair – sitting across of Chinda Nagisa was the Third seat of the Fourth division, Acting Captain Kira Chie. It was a woman she hadn't seen before today, on the hill. It was exactly there that Chie, as far as Kasumi's help had been correct with her translation, had brought forth the idea of a vote – which had led them to where they were now.
“As you're all aware there are a couple of things that require our attention today. First, the traitor, Tsukiyo Kionchi, has fled the Soul Society and is from now on wanted dead or alive. If anyone has any contact with him – I want to know about it.” She would know about it, and should the source differ from the one who was having contact with the man, Kasumi wouldn't be lenient about it.
“Captain Chinda here will be in charge of the tracking down and containing of this threat, hence everything will go through her hands one way or another.” The white-haired Shinigami added, eyes sliding from one face to the other. She didn't look at Nagisa, she didn't need to – they had already agreed on certain matters before the meeting had started.
“The next point on the list,” she continued, as if the traitor matter was closed. In a way, it was handled, at least on the surface. Nagisa would get to the bottom of where the hell the man was – probably Hueco Mundo if judged by the way he left the Seireitei – and the internal problems such as potential leaks and connections would be dealt with in time.
“Ogawa Genki is the Lieutenant of the Fifth from now on, and with the lack of a Captain at this moment, he'll be responsible for all the necessary decisions regarding the division under his responsibility.” A short nod in the direction of the man had Kasumi moving onto the other Acting Captain in the room – Chie.
“Kira Chie, you will continue your work as the third seat and the Acting Captain of the Fourth, for anything that would usually require Minamoto's attention you'll have to contact me.” Keeping her gaze on the smaller woman for a couple of seconds, she waited to see whether or not they understood each other. As a couple of brief moments went by, she turned her attention to Walkren.
“Now,” Getting up from her seat, Kasumi let the chair scrape over the floor before confidently making her way to one of the shelves behind her. There were piles of books, papers and other – in her eyes – prehistorical, crap flooding the space which she had claimed today to be her office while the Annex was being rebuilt. She was already looking forward to the Japanese styled complex, but would have to wait a bit longer before moving in there would become a real option.
“with the resignation of,” Picking up the neatly folded haori, Kasumi turned around to see what their gazes were saying before continuing.“Hazuki as the Captain of the Third, the honor of leading this vital division falls to Dekharr Walkren.”
One, two.
The steps melted away when she put the haori on the table, in front of Walkren.
“Congratulations, Captain Dekharr.”
