It was the first time in nearly ten years that his feet had touched the sands, even the feeling of that wonderful crunch was so nostalgic that Cid had to stop himself. He breathed in deeply. It was a wonderful feeling to be back above that oppressive forest, but now was the time to bring himself back to the palace, redeem himself. The moon shining bright above was certainly an act of providence, as he made his way towards the castle looming in the distance.
He was slow to move with his weapon, using it as something of a cane and stopping to take a rest now and then. Cid wasn’t necessarily in a hurry, and didn’t feel like moving with sonido, considering the fact that it wasn’t going to help him get anywhere closer anywhere faster. It loomed before him, an edifice of glory and of terror, it inspired fear and ambition in hollows of all kinds. It was also a reminder of things long past more bad times than good, unfortunately. Regardless he no longer had the luxury of time. He had to see who the new king was; the fear that it was another Shinigami still fresh in his mind.
What would it matter?
‘It wouldn’t’
Then why care?
‘Just shut up I don’t need this from you today.’
Time had no meaning here, not in the long run, since moving back and forth enabled one to get to Earth. There was no reason to be in a hurry to get anywhere here. So he was taking his sweet time with this one. They seemed to be avoiding either him or…no. There was something else, not that far off. A bit more powerful than Cidolfus himself, undoubtedly, but not so much as to be afraid of him. The beginning of the path? Perhaps... He’d have to find this being first. It wasn’t far away. He could walk to it.
This he did slowly, calmly and assuredly, using his spear as something of a walking stick. The crunch of the sands, the gleam of the moon, the hollows that hid from him and this other presence… It was a wonderful night. He crested the hill just in front of him and saw the arrancar. He cut quite the figure, bare chested, slightly elevated forehead, shoulder length hair, blade on his back and a cut up left arm… He was only a bit shorter than Cid himself was.
Without a second thought he gave a brief flare of his reiatsu as something of a signal. An ‘I’m nearby’ kind of symbol, one of good faith and of honor. It took a little less than two minutes to walk down the dune, and he stopped only about ten feet away from the man.
“Greetings. I have been roaming these sands for others of our kind that either possess something that passes for intelligence or power.” He paused for a brief moment, placing a hand on his chest over his heart. “I hope to journey to the castle in the distance. Are you familiar?” He wasn’t a fool, and kept a hand on his weapon the whole time. Should this being jump him, then he was prepared.
