People were just so unpredictable. It truly made them fun to be around.
Take, for instance, this little girl named Kasumi. She'd barely even been a Shinigami for terribly long, having been a spiritually sensitive mortal before then. And now? Picked to become the Captain Commander. It hadn't even been two years yet now had it? And yet here she was, the first day on the job, about to assume the highest office the Shinigami had. Just a few months past trying to commit suicide, in pursuit of a dream she would never have been able to reach. Her rate of growth was honestly astounding in some ways. In other ways though she was still the same little girl she'd been.
It was just so...fascinating. Truth might be fine being so far away from people, but Value just couldn't keep away from them for very long. Of all of the things in the universe, it was people who made it an experience he could live in and learn from forever.
The Transcendental grinned to himself as he reclined, wriggling himself deeper into the chair. It was quite comfortable, if he did say so himself. Not terribly surprising, given that it was meant for the tush of the most powerful person in the Gotei. Rank had its privileges after all, and maybe he'd finally found the one thing Shinigami could be overly prideful about. Value let out a soft groan of satisfaction as he relaxed into the chair, finally finding that exact spot he wanted as a easy smile crossed his face. Yep, there it was.
It wouldn't be long now, so he amused himself in those last few minutes by looking around the rest of the inner office. This was actually the area he could give them credit for. Swift and effective rebuilding after a cataclysm was an expertise he'd never really considered the Shinigami would have, but after so long taking care of the Earth and covering up Hollow attacks it was no wonder they were able to apply that to their home affairs as well. Given what Shun and Tokiyo had done to the place, it was honestly impressive how quickly they'd been able to rebuild the Command Annex. He supposed that Kasumi's Second Division experience was showing through strongly here, but as far as layouts went he didn't have any complaints.
Not that everything had been rebuilt yet, but even spirits had their limits, and what they'd done was impressive enough.
The door slid open, exposing a young woman in the haori of the Captain Commander. Value grinned and raised his right hand to wave at the startled woman, “Oh hello there Ka-su-mi-Taichou,” he said, her name delivered in a whimsical, sing-song cadence. Takua was a thousand times more at ease than the last time they'd seen each other, and he only just barely restrained himself from kicking his feet up and onto her desk as he leaned back. That would probably be a bit too far now wouldn't it? Very likely.
Of course she would wonder why he was here. Which was a good first step as to why he was here. But how this went depended entirely on her. If he wasn't needed as he was, he did want to finish off this last bit of unfinished business and turn the page. And if he was needed as he was...
Then things could become interesting very swiftly. But those thoughts did not show on his face as he smiled easily, “It's good to see you in good health compared to last time. Have you taken well to the weight of command then?” Knowing the answer to that himself was one thing, hearing what she thought was another, and altogether more enlightening to him.
