APPEARANCE
Physical Description: A man with poor posture, Joshu's shoulders are rolled forward making him looked slightly hunched over as if he is trying not to be seen, though when he chooses to stand up straight he stands at a reasonable height of 5ft 11 in. The rest of Joshu's figure is in line with his height making his body look rather average for a fighter, a stark contrast to his facial features. Although Joshu's posture suggests he would rather blend into the background his features often make it difficult. With crimson red eyes, a slick purple grey haircut and bronzed skin Joshu has far from an average appearance often drawing increased attention to himself.
Clothing: A walking contradiction, Joshu dresses in a flamboyant nature despite his reserved attitude. The reason for this is form over function however, dressing for comfort an maneuverability. As a shinigami he has a standard uniform, however he has customized his to some degree, choosing not to wear the white undershirt or black kosode, instead remaining shirtless under black kimono, just barely keeping within regulations.
Spiritual Description: When Joshu releases his Reiatsu it creates a deep sense of dread and foreboding in the air making those around him feel uncomfortable. It is the manifestation of the doubt that Joshu often feels within himself and a simple way to describe this sensation would be that it feels like a storm cloud rolling in overhead. the appearance of the reiatsu is also similar to that of sotrm cloud though one in a shade of red.
PERSONALITY
Personality: If there was one word to describe Joshu Tomimura it would be "conflicted", a word which in and of itself begs more questions. Joshu has a duality about him, like most people, there is the side everybody sees and the side nobody is ever exposed to. Primarily Joshu portrays himself as a friendly individual if a little shy at times. He finds it difficult to start a conversation with a stranger but once engaged he can communicate quite well leading him to have friendly relationships with many of his fellow shinigami. They laugh together and spend their free time relaxing with one another, in fact, some people might even describe him as a social butterfly, floating between groups. That being said, he can often find himself concerned about those same friendships leading him to obsess over little things and over analyze situations that do not call for it, filling him with self doubt. The self doubt and over analysis stems from his childhood in which he was frequently told he was no good or was often made to feel guilty for his actions and this has stayed with him his entire life. Despite this doubt however, Joshu remains fiercely loyal to his friends and will defend them vehemently.
Due to the verbal abuse as a child Joshu often found himself refraining from saying or doing anything. This is another aspect that has stayed with him as he has grown older as he is a quiet individual choosing to listen rather than speak and never acting until the situation desperately calls for it. In fact the only time he feels he can speak freely without thought is when in solitude with his mentor. He was once this confident talking to his best friend until tragedy struck and claimed his life. Joshu feels an incredible guilt for the death of his friend and feels that if he were better prepared or more in control of himself he could of prevented his demise. Guilt is a constant running through Joshu's life as he learned young about his sadistic nature when in battle. As such he refuses to fight if possible and when he does fight does everything in his power to restrain himself from acting on his sadistic nature.
Feeling guilty for things in his past and for his own emotions and feelings has taught Joshu incredibly self control something he applies in many aspects of his social life making him very studious and resistant to acting on a whim. Though his loyalty to his friends can often come into conflict with his analytical side which again cause more guilt and grief. a complex individual, Joshu is constantly trying to better himself although denying parts of his personality may result in mental breakdowns from time to time as he cannot appropriately deal with his emotions.
Goals & Achievements: Joshu's primary goal is to try and better himself after the death of his friend. To do this he has vowed to accomplish his best friend's life goal of becoming guard captain.
ZANPAKUTO
Zanpakuto Spirit: Kamaitachi: Kamaitachi is the Zanpakutō spirit belonging to Joshu’s weapon. It differs dramatically from Joshu in that it is extremely confident and almost brash to the point of rudeness. It is a straight shooter and has little time for subterfuge and negotiation. This can often lead to conflicts with the Shinigami on the best approach to a situation. Conflict between the two can often arise because Kamaitachi feels that Joshu is denying his true nature which frustrates the spirit as he is a sadist who enjoys dishing out pain to his enemies. Despite being quite different to Joshu in his preferred approach, Kamaitachi understands his partner extremely well and can deliver solid advice when needed or manipulate him in extreme situations. He exists to prove to Joshu that over analysis can often be the downfall of one’s self. This boisterous personality is why the Shikai is such a garish weapon upon release.
Despite being loud and brash, the appearance of Kamaitachi’s spirit could not be more different. Much in the same way that Joshu’s loud appearance does not reflect his reserved personality, Kamaitachi’s appearance, which is that of a small white ferret with a moustache, does not reflect his large personality. His appearance in Shikai form is much more fitting to his true personality.
Inner World: Kamaitachi's inner world is that of a plot of land that has suffered heavy deforestation, the grass is yellowed and there are tree stumps dotting the landscape. The inner world looks this way because of the damage that has been wrought upon Joshu.
Power:
Zanpakuto Weapon:
Sealed: When in it's sealed form Joshu's Kamaitachi is a regular katana with a crimson red hand wrap and a plain black tsuba.
Shikai: Upon callling out "Kamaitachi, eviscerate" Joshu's Zanpakuto transforms into it's shikai state. A large garish weapon resembling a three bladed scyth or sickle.
HISTORY
Origin: Joshu was born a pure soul in the 76th east district of Rukongai. A tough place to grow up for the hardiest of people, Joshu's childhood was rough, he often found himself working chores he could not fulfill and as such found himself at the wrong end of punishments more often than not. In an effort to avoid these punishments Joshu grew quiet and evasive, hiding from his family whenever possible. Of course, it wasn't always so easy, as young children often struggle to stay hidden from their parents. One day whilst trying to avoid traveling home Joshu came across a young man named Kazuchika Tanahashi, who was in the middle of a fight with some of the other young children in the district. Outnumbered Tanahashi, was starting to lose the fight as the boy started to get hit harder and harder by the other children, Joshu, acting against every fiber of his being, jumped into the fray. The fight did not improve dramatically for Kazuchika with Joshu's participation but it did prevent him from being beaten too severely.
After the fight Joshu offered to carry Kazuchika home as he was injured, Kazu agreed and the two began to talk. By the time they had arrived to Tanahashi's home the two had already become friends and from there they would only grow closer. As time went by Joshu and Kazu would meet up after their chores and hang out late into the evening. Before long, Kazu started to question why Joshu was refusing to head home at night and eventually Joshu confided in him his story. He told Kazu about the abuse and cruelty he had to endure at home. Kazu was shocked and immediately offered his home as a place to stay, although Joshu could not bring himself to leave. A frustrated Kazu then went back to the Tanahashi homestead and explained the situation to his family who also wanted to get Joshu out of the home he was currently in. They instructed Kazuchika to head to Joshu's house and bring him home as they knew the pull their son had over Joshu.
Upon reaching Joshu's house Kazu was met with verbal abuse and ranting from Joshu's family. When Joshu tried to quell the situation his father struck him prompting the hotheaded Kazu to explode with anger and charge at him. Kazu and Joshu's father then engaged in a fist fight which saw Kazu get beaten severely as Kazu was still a child trying to take on an adult. The fight crashed through Joshu's house and seeing his Friend close to death instinctively he grabbed a large knife from the kitchen and plunged it into his father's back. Joshu's father then stopped moving but it did not stop Joshu. Years of pent up rage seemed to erupt at this moment as Joshu began to stab his father repeatedly. His mother tried to stop him but in his frenzy he sliced at her too. Before long the room looked like something out of a horror film. Joshu, covered in blood was sat crying in the corner as the bodies of his parents lay on the ground, bleeding into the floor. Kazu watched on in silence, still trying to comprehend what had happened. He reasoned with himself that it had happened due to the constant abuse and threat to Kazu's life and as such he went over to comfort his friend. That night the two men became bonded for life. Kazu helped Joshu cover up the murder of his parents and the two boys moved in together only telling the Tanahashi family what happened.
Rise to Power: In the years that followed. Kazuchika grew up to become a strong confident young man, a born leader as he showed among his friends. He brought out the best in Joshu who had spent the years trying to get over what he had done to his parents and trying to deny the fact that he had somewhat enjoyed it. Joshu too was growing more confident although he was much quieter than his boisterous counterpart. The two men were inseparable and although it was tough living in the outer districts of Rukongai they always made the best of it. Kazu was growing powerful and it was evident to those who knew him he was destined for something more than the day laboring he was used to. Soon enough he started to realize this himself and confided in his best friend his plans for the future. He started talking with Joshu about the future. He said he was sick of being a farm boy laboring all day for pennies. He presented the idea of joining the court guard squads to Joshu who backed his friend all the way. Joshu was happy for his friend but concerned about what life meant for him if his friend were to disappear and become a Shinigami. Panic started to set in for Joshu but Kazu had seemingly already thought of all this as he asked Joshu to join the academy with him. Kazu, as strong and confident as he had grown would not have gotten to that point without Joshu by his side. Joshu agreed as he was told it would help provide for that family that had supported him through the years.
Upon joining the academy both men found themselves in a world they knew nothing about....
