Cayo had been chasing the young plus boy around for the better part of the day. The boy had gone through the stages of pleading and grief, now he was straight up angry. Cayo watched the boy from the rooftop, his head cocked to one side so that his mask reflected shimmering light back down on the helpless plus. Whatever obscenities and slurs the Plus hurled his way were lost on the hollow, what little bit of conscious thought he had that could be considered a mind was too hung up on the boy himself. From his mop of messy hair to his drab "of the month" GAP clothes, he reminded Cayo of someone.
The hollow pitched himself from the rooftop, his body falling rather unceremoniously to the ground. He landed with a squelch sound that would have made most anyone's stomach turn, the Plus laughing at his apparent clumsiness thinking he'd get away. In a matter of moments though the young hollow hefted himself upright as his body began to repair itself. His green eyes watched the young Plus's face turn from joy to horror as he shuffled in his direction. As the child tried to turn and run, a shimmering sheet of reflective material appeared in his path, effectively trapping him and the hollow together.
It didn't take long for the hollow to overtake the Plus. He sat on the child's chest, pinning his arms to the ground almost as though they were a pair of siblings caught in a wrestling match. As the nameless boy watched, Cayo's hand seemed to spring into existence from under the shroud of his sack only to dig into his shoulder. He screamed in pain as the hollow severed muscle from sinew, and bone from flesh. Blood pooled around the Plus's body and beneath Cayo's sack as he sat looking into the boy's face.
"Make-" he began, but a wave of intense hunger quickly swept over him. Almost enough for him to begin feeding on the child in a frenzy, but he'd hunted for too long to forgo the opportunity before him. As the wave broke and he found himself able to process he continued. "New one."
Excuses sprang from the boy's lips as though they were water and his mouth a fountain. Cayo watched and waited for the child to regrow his severed limb, while piece by piece the old one disappeared. The flesh was much softer than that of the other hollowbreeds he'd consumed, not that he particularly minded much about the other meat. They were usually more fun to hunt but they made him frustrated. None of them understood his mirrors and try as he might he couldn't do any of the cool things they could do. Some of them could make their body regrow like he could though, so it had to be something they all could do. Right?
Something caught his attention as he waited for the boy's limb to regrow. It called to him like a voice across water, it was distant but he could just make out its call if he listened hard enough. It was even louder than the pit in his stomach growled. His hand appeared from his sack once more, pushing on the material as he reached out. He wanted to know what that call was, he wanted to answer.
The world seemed to groan at his unknown request. It bent around his tiny fingers, curving inward until it all but punctured itself and collapsed. Reality seemed to fold in on itself as what began as a pinprick hole at his fingertips turned into a gaping maw as wide as the alley he was in. It pulsed and hummed with a voiceless drone that was just this side of inaudible, something that was more felt than heard. Cayo could feel it in his mask and in his bones. He didn't know what this was but he needed to find out.
Popping the last bit of the first arm into his mouth, the hollow began to stand before reconsidering and lowering himself once more. In one quick swipe, he severed the Plus's other arm before standing and moving toward the hole. As he stepped through, he looked back at the boy. He was bleeding out and probably losing consciousness but he was still alive. If he didn't wake himself up soon, he'd be easy prey for the next hungry soul. Cayo didn't especially care, the boy's arm would serve as a decent enough snack.
Moving through the space within the hole was strange. It felt like moving through jell-o, every effort made forward was met with resistance. Not quite enough that one was forced backward but just enough that you felt like more energy was wasted than what was necessary. The hollow walked for what seemed like days, the arm he'd taken with him having disappeared within the first few minutes within the hole despite his attempt at pacing himself, before he finally felt the call culminate before him. Another hole opened itself before him, a blinding light on the other side but he all but threw himself into it to silence the call inside of him.
Air whipped at his hair as he fell. His body twisted as he hurtled downward, he managed to spot the hole he'd come from as he spun and noticed it was, for whatever reason, several hundred feet in the air, the spinning was almost enjoyable if the immanent threat of death wasn't so close at hand. A series of his mirrors shimmered into existence, the first one directly below him. He flung himself from panel to panel using the momentum of the fall to propel him. From his vantage point in the sky, he could see for miles around even if it was only for seconds at a time. Almost everything he could see was white. White sand, white trees, white rocks, and even a white castle waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy in the distance.
He finally crash landed into one of the sand dunes, a huge white plume of smoke erupting into the air. Cayo sputtered and coughed as he tried to gain his bearings as the dust settled. Shaking himself off after he was sure he could breathe, he skurried to the top of the dune to see what was around.
