[ ON THE SURFACE ]
Physical Description: Despite a relatively tall height of five-eleven feet and inches, Toyokazu has a generally meek appearance. He’s a fair skinned man of a lean physique, maintained by routine practice, with no distinctive markings or scars with the exception of a beauty mark. The beauty mark is no larger than a thumb print, about a penny in size, on his lower left abdomen. He has a long face with shoulder-length, obsidian black hair and a pair of dark brown eyes. His eyes are giving a rather serious expression from thin brows, but often appear inquisitively rather than intimidating. In addition he has a modest bearing, and is known to appear careless and lost, far from looking hostile. Toyokazu’s ears are particularly small given his face shape, while his nose is sharp and his mouth is wide.
He has a poor man’s attire, so he’s been told, and while he doesn’t deviate from or add to the uniform, even sticking to kimono off duty, his clothing is loose. Even his Shihakusho, notably around the chest, is left open and his sleeves are longer than usual able to cover his hands and hang considerably. Where most Shinigami wear their Zanpaktou, Toyokazu always carries his by hand. There is some speculation about whether he is trying to hide or is ashamed of his hands, but those are merely rumors. Like his unblemished body his hands are no exception and though he may be hesitant to say it, he takes pride in their smooth and delicate state.
Spiritual Description: Like the elements of water and air, Toyokazu’s energy is distinctly adaptive and its fluid presence only hints to his emotional state. His energy is shaded like a fog, a dull gray with a light blue luster and when released takes on the image of an eight-spoked wheel. In addition his normal brown eyes are flooded completely to match the energy’s color.
[ BEHIND THE EYES ]
Personality: Unassuming and seemingly impassive, Toyokazu is an introvert and idealistic researcher and healer of the Third Division. He is an intuitive and orderly man whose source of optimism is offset by his realism. In other words he is a man who hopes for the best but prepares for the worst. His husky voice rarely known to boom or surge with emotion, a cool and controlled tone is present in many facets of his life. He has the tenacity of a workaholic and will seclude himself in his work for long periods of time. However, try as he might, the perfectionist that he is judges and criticizes his work harshly, often resulting in unfinished or failed projects.
Goals & Achievements: Toyokazu has nothing to put here far as achievements go, but his goals are to bring his research to fruition and one day restore his sister’s soul. Towards this end he pursues a moderate position or seat within his division, nothing too fancy.

[ LEGACY CREATED ]
Origin: As far as childhoods go, Toyokazu has nothing of true interest to note he is just another entitled upper district kid trained, instructed and groomed to serve their family and the Seireitei. His story begins in the East Rukongai Fifteenth District, a pure soul born to a house that has for generations traditionally served in the Third and First Divisions. He was the first son in a line of three daughters, his father and mother serving in the First and Third respectively. There is no way to speak of his hardships because they were either miniscule or non-existent, his sisters picked and teased on him and everyone had a big laugh about it. Life was great. Then the house started to become empty little by little, his sisters left for the academy, his parents work increased and it was just him, the help and his instructors. He learned to cope with the emptiness and loneliness and while watching time fly by, it came time for him to leave.
Rise to Power: For a time Toyokazu struggled in the academy, most in part due to his own uncertainty about where he wanted to go. Tradition dictated he go to the First, but the law never truly appealed to him and only the Fifth appealed to his sense of freedom. So for a while, delaying his choice, he simply floated in the academy and until he gained the nerve to tell his parents. The decision came as a surprise, but not the bomb he was hoping for, his sisters, now serving proudly in the third, supported him. His mother was against but his father, well, his father was like fuck it, he’ll come to his senses when those brutes around him drop like flies.
In the course of his time during the Fifth Division many tragedies struck his family that ultimately led to the death of his parents and two sisters. However it was his time in the Fifth that he’d come accustomed to the death of friends that he was unable to properly respond to the emotions of his sister. His two sisters, Yunon and Akane, were killed by a Hollow during a dispatch in the summer of 41. Later in August their father, Heisuke, is involved in a scandal surrounding his department and to avoid charges commits suicide. The backlash of his actions results in the seizure of the family estate and property and they are ousted from the district. For Kofuku, their mother, the shame and humiliation that follow lead to her own demise in the following years.
Toyokazu was not necessarily a strong man, but he could hide his emotions well and discreetly but not his sister and following her mother’s death had a mental breakdown. The result of her break resulted in many injuries and though no one died she was taken away for evaluation, the story that he was told. Where she was taken he had no idea and with no answers his own duties began to suffer and for it he was taken off duty.
Call to Action: Fusako returned home after over three decades away and home was neither the Fifteenth or the Seireitei but some isolated range in the 48th District. Where she been, what she’d been through, they didn’t speak of any of that. They simply lived there for a time and for a while things were peaceful and then the waterworks. Toyokazu again didn’t have the answers or response she needed or wanted, he was happy just to know she was alive and well. She would be around, return to her duties, but the family she wanted, the environment she lost was gone and nothing was going to bring it back. In order to keep an eye on his sister Toyokazu transferred to the Third Division.
Toyokazu engrossed himself into the field of Kido, primarily Kaido and psychology, he wanted nothing more than to help and be there for his sister. To be less of a selfish man. In the events and calamities that would follow and engulf the Seireitei nothing held more impact than the Great Seireitei Massacre. He didn’t lose his sister in that event but she was among the first responders and among countless Shinigami to find themselves victims of Hollowification. One solution to Hollowification was death the other was to lock the Shinigami in a statis while a cure, if possible, was looked into, his sister ended in the former. It has since been the driving force behind his research.
