Saya let out a long yawn as she leaned back on the roof of the suburban house. Hands under her head and eyes pointed at the dim stars, to someone who didn't know her she probably looked comfortable. The darkness that hid her face certainly helped that assumption. Her impatient ruined any chance of relaxation, not to mention roofs were terribly uncomfortable (especially this low quality house's). But it was better than her ass getting sore.
In her left pocket was her soul phone which had been modified to be more of a GPS than a phone. Set to vibrate when a Quincy or Hollow stepped within a one kilometer range, she relied on it heavily during her extended stay on earth. For now, she had already confirmed a Quincy living in the house below her, but something about breaking into another person's house sat in the wrong part of her stomach. So, she was waiting for the sounds of a door unlatching and then clicking shut. Only one person lived in the place, making it pretty easy to tell who was coming and going.
Her mind wandered to somewhere far away from the mundane world she was currently on, making up demons and dragons to add excitement to the darkness. Stars grew wings and from those wings light sought to purge the impish monsters that screeched and scowled. Saya's lips twitched up in slight amusement as her imagination got the better of her.
A buzz from her pocket drew her away from the childish passtime she'd never admit to having. With a huff, she sat up and wiggled her phone out of her pocket. A press of the button and the screen lit up to show a yellow dot just within the sensor range. The Shinigami stared at it until the screen refresh just to be sure that it was coming closer. The yellow dot flickered and then jumped forward a step or two.
"Looks like today is your lucky day, Quincy," Saya mumbled to herself as she turned off the screen light and put away the device.
The girl, looking more like a college student than someone part of the special ops, stood from her spot, dusted off her rear and then hopped off the roof. She took only a moment to fluff her hair back into its proper position before walking in the direction of the Hollow breed that had so ignorantly stumbled into her web. The darkness of nighttime hugged tighter around the narrow alleyways that Saya weaved through, mostly concealing her physical presence even if her spiritual one was so proudly on display. Burning against her skin like a beacon to all who cared to sense the world around them, she found no shame in announcing her presence.
However, when she turned the corner and found herself staring at a young looking woman, all arrogance had faded into uneasy confusion. Saya's hand dug into her pocket to fetch the phone once more, though that did nothing more than to confuse her even more. The dot, right on the crosshairs of the screen, was just as bright and yellow as any other Hollow. But...
"Who are you?" Saya barked with her usual authoritative tone as she put away the phone once more. "More accurately, what are you?"
Deep down, she knew what she was looking at. It was an Arrancar, no doubt. The horrifying monsters of legend portrayed in her textbooks, but to assume she had stumbled onto something so rare. It was just easier to assume otherwise. Stupider, probably, but easier.
