3/24/17
The beast roared out. A howl that could be clearly heard across the dessert for mile. It had grown tired and eager for a rest. The sands around it left a solid trail with each step. Its tail dragged in the sands as it panted, tired from its endless hunt. It would blink slowly before standing itself up on its hind legs. Standing there in the endless vast of sand looking and waiting. It closed its eyes and let out another roar. In the distance around it and from the sands black wisps seemed to rise from nothing and start to slam into its body, being absorbed back into the mass one by one. Their impacts rippling his flesh making him stagger from his own lethargy. Falling to the ground with its eyes closed as the last of the wisps made their way back to their host. Each one carrying a feast back to their master.
As he lay there his body slowly recede into itself. His bestial if not feral form cracking and popping at the bones and joints as it reset itself internally. Shrinking down inches at a time. His tail being the first to fully recede, making what looked like an armored spine along the beasts back. His arms and hands both cracking and folding until they were near a normal human's size. Its eyes opening up again as the hollow mask went into the body until the faintest amount remained on the eye brows. Its teeth growing dull and shorter till they looked similar to his original body. The legs seeming to snap from its hips and sink into the chest and abdomen. The process letting off a dense and thick layer of miasma off from each limb and part of his body before being pulled back inside through the vents on its shoulders. Containing itself until its form finally snapped into place. The gas cloud dissipating as the only think left in the middle of it was a boy, laying there face down in the sand. His yawn slowly giving sound to the sands as he raised his head.
Slowly taking a few steps after he stood, the child sprigged up. Almost as if he was full of energy, looking around the desert before slowly starting to run off in a random direction but not before picking up his jacket that was left on the ground next to him. Strapping it on to fit him tightly and not slide off his emaciated body. Closing it up to hide his body even though he felt no heat from the sun. Continuing to run through the dunes of sand, sniffing at the air here and there. Looking down the pits in the sand that lead to the forest below. The child almost bewildered why he couldn't hear a thing from down below or anywhere.
