[ ON THE SURFACE ]
Physical Description: Kim likes to think that she's aged well, and her many younger partners would likely agree. Though she may have put on (and kept) weight during her pregnancies, it stayed in all the right places for this energetic frontwoman, and she loves it. When out and about, she flaunts her considerable feminine assets with an almost hypnotic swaying of the hips, getting a kick out of seeing how many eyes she can draw. Sure, she might have a little more cellulite than she'd prefer, but she looks a hell of a lot better than the three Jans did at the reunion.
Her hair is trimmed short in an almost tomboyish cut, and it's obviously still its natural dark brunette. How dare someone imply that she has to dye it or that she had much lighter dirty blond hair when she started her first band in the 80's! Don't they know that photos can lighten up with time?
Her excited and energetic eyes dart around any room she enters, seeking out anything that she can add some extra hype to. A song on her face at seemingly any moment, it really is something that she doesn't have any laugh lines. Of course she wouldn't need botox! What kind of crazy person would think that?
Her voice hasn't changed a bit since she was younger, and anyone who says otherwise just doesn't understand that recordings deteriorate over time. Nearly constantly rocking that hard and cutting with that punk rock edge, she's not above throwing in lots of profanity and lowbrow humor in social situations.
Kim's trademark style emphasizes the traditional black and white of Ska, though she has been known to mix things up with some color every now and again. Every occasion has an outfit and every outfit has accessories. So, so many accessories. Her Quincy Cross is almost indistinguishable amidst her other bracelets, chains, and loops, but it is the only constant in her ever changing wardrobe.
Spiritual Description: Kim's spiritual aura, like the rest of her lifestyle, screams high energy and no worries. A light and accelerated percussive Ska beat, a faint black and white checkered background, and that feeling like you just can't stand still accompany her wherever she goes, building to a beautifully pumped up crescendo as her own emotions rise.
[ BEHIND THE EYES ]
Personality: Kim is not a complicated woman, at least that's how she would prefer people to think. In the surface, she is a high energy, mentally young trombone player with a penchant for being just the right level of inappropriate. Perpetually in your face, she's never one to back down from a challenge easily, no matter how hard the man tries to keep her down.
In actuality, she's got a soft side that she rarely shows. Still just as brash, but compassionate and upstanding, she rarely opens herself up to let someone look in at her like this. While she's glad to let her more aggressive side seem to be the dominant one, deep down she really just wants everyone to be as happy and carefree as she acts.
In the spiritual world, she identifies with the Quincy establishment. While some may accuse her of selling out, it couldn't be further from the truth. Having been raised to disrespect authority, what greater act of rebellion is there than spitting in her family's free-Quincy faces by becoming part of the machine? Plus, those uniforms are just so cute. Now if only they could work on getting checkered patterns made mandatory.
Concerning other spiritual beings, she cares little for Hollows, seeing the powers of the Quincy as the only real way to grant them the peace of a final rest. All this nonsense perpetrated by the Shinigami about some kind of reincarnation cycle is just a bunch of bullshit they use to keep power over their weird Japanese purgatory. They have sold out to the man, but not her!
Goals & Achievements: Kim wants to spread hype and happiness above all else. She previously cared little for advancement within the Quincy, but that has changed as she came off tour. Though she'd never admit it, she really misses the attention she got on stage.
[ GUARDIAN ANGEL ]
Quincy Cross: As a young child, Kim loved music. It was thus that, despite her parents insisting on an actual cross-shaped emblem, she fashioned a pendant of two joined sixteenth notes on a slightly ascending scale as her cross. Made of silver, this necklace sits prominently atop her ever-cycling jewelry.
Power: Get fucking hype! Kim can, quite literally, directly influence the excitement of a situation (or at least her audience's perception thereof.) Who needs ice lasers and fire swords when you've got the power of raw, unadulterated hype in your hands?
Spirit Weapon: Those facing Kim in combat might be confused why the Quincy is standing around holding a trombone instead of a bow or blade. That confusion quickly fades as the hype mistress puts her lips to the strangely glowing mouthpiece and causes waves of energy to blast forth from the bell.
[ LEGACY CREATED ]
Origin: Born to a small family of free Quincy in a farming commune outside Des Moines, Iowa in the 1970's, Kim got an early introduction to music, drugs, and rebellion. Growing up the slew of half-siblings one would expect from parents who firmly followed a philosophy of free love, she was never without a playmate. Unfortunately, with how busy her parents were living their own lives, her Quincy training was much more lacking than many of her counterparts around the world. All it took was one cut to the wrist to turn her away from archery, and her mom really didn't mind having one less student.
Her education was also rather unremarkable considering her heritage. Attending the Des Moines public school system, she was a B- average student in most of her classes, with one exception. For as long as she could remember, she had a passion for music, and this drive was only further channeled once she walked into her middle school band classroom. Here, the goofy and excitable hippie kid finally found herself, learning how to play all kinds of music with amazing aptitude, finally settling on the trombone as her instrument of choice.
Rise to Power: Things had been going well enough for Kimberly by the time she was in high school. She had formed her first band with a few classmates in her Freshman year, had a steady stream of boyfriends and girlfriends, and was altogether loving life. It wasn't until her Junior year that she really ran into any problems.
She never learned who the father was, having slept with 4 different boys in the month where the pregnancy likely happened. It was a hard choice for her to keep the child, but her parents' insistence that they could take care of the baby as their own helped her conscience considerably.
It was after the birth that her issues really began. Still attending school, preparing for college, and doing what she could to help around the house wore her thin, especially with the added responsibility of a child. It was during one such night, in an argument with her mother, that her spirit weapon first manifest itself.
She wanted nothing more than to hurt the woman and somehow knew that this trombone was the way to do it. Hurling blast after blast of pent up aggression, she blew plenty of holes in the walls of the house, though her mother proved more than capable of absorbing the blows. Her lack of training showed itself as she wore herself down, earning little more than a sad hug for her trouble.
Call to Action: Kim spent the next 29 years living her life as she wanted. After making it through college thanks to a helpful grant from the government and her parents being willing to raise her children, Kim took to the road, touring with a number of Ska bands through the 90's and 2000's.
It was a fast paced life on the road. Sometimes her band would have the cash on hand for a hotel and other times she'd end up crashing in the van or hooking up with a fan after a show in exchange for a warm bed and a shower in the morning. Still, they were enjoying every minute of it, keeping the tunes pumping and the good times rolling.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end, though she has insisted the band is just on a break to recharge. There's no way they could break up, not after this long. So what if half of them were making more money at their day jobs or had families they wanted to spend more time with? They'd come back. They always came back.
She just needed something to fill in the time. Turning to her family heritage, Kim reached out to an old contact within the Quincy and arranged for a meeting. Plenty of rock stars did charity during their breaks, why shouldn't she try the most noble charity possible?
