It was still dark outside. The sun hadn’t come up yet. Inside a quaint walkup with high ceilings was the sound of running water. Rania was showering and running the water hot. With the bathroom door closed, steam built up so intensely that you could barely see. There was a sigh and then a slight creak as the water turned off. A quietly disheartened mumble followed, “Can’t stay in here forever, I suppose…”
Finally, Rania stepped from outside of the bathtub to face the bathroom window. The glass squeaked quietly as she cleared off a circle of steam from it. Rania could vaguely make out the dark circles under her eyes and groaned slightly because of it. “I’m starting to look like Hazuki and not in the way that I’d like to look her for…” Another heavy sigh. “What time is it even?”
She hastily wrapped a towel around her body and opened the door to peek outside. All of the pent up steam quickly rushed outside and Rania shivered ever so slightly from the clash of differing temperatures. 5 o’clock read the wall clock, still early, and still dark. The apartment was silent save for Rania’s quiet steps toward her bedroom. She closed her door, leaving it open by a crack. Hazuki was usually excellent about respecting privacy and even if she didn’t, Rania had nothing to hide so it’s not like it mattered anyway. In front of her full-length mirror, the Captain let her towel drop to the floor as she turned from side to side and around in order to inspect her naked body.
Rania had half a mind to walk out like that in her current state but inhibition eventually won out and she ended up sauntering out in a simple t-shirt paired with pajama shorts and fluffy pink slippers. Her hair, still wet, was wrapped up in a small towel. She grabbed an apron from one of the hooks hanging off the wall and made her way toward the kitchen. It was one of those ridiculous aprons that read ‘kiss the cook,’ something of a keepsake from a trip to the mortal realm, one could suppose.
Rania tied it gingerly around her back and then quickly went about retrieving ingredients from the fridge with just the kitchen light on. “Egg whites, vegetables… cheese? No, no cheese… Let’s go healthy today.” After all, Rania didn’t have much of an appetite anyway. She cooked two small portions of an omelette just in case but looked much more forward to the brewing coffee, aroma wafting gently through the apartment.
“Hazuki, breakfast!” Rania called out as she sat down, untying the apron, and letting it fall from her neck as she did. “I know you’re home for once.”
