“Thanks.” Aodh said to the young woman as he took the folder off her. She was a Knight of the Order called Cassandra although mostly the pretty young woman acted more like an records admin. She was new but practically a wizard, or witch he guessed, when it came to summoning up copies of files or records that he needed.
“You’re welcome sir.” she replied with a bright smile before practically skipping back out of his office.
Aodh shook his head slightly, how did anyone manage to be so upbeat and full of energy all the time.
Throwing it down on his table which, for once, had nothing on it’s surface except his pocket watch hanging from a stand and his closed laptop. Taking a seat he flicked through the folder, it was an exact copy of the one Freyleif had shown him at the meeting a mere half hour ago. He read the file with great interest, Aodh knew precious little about Quincy from that part of the world. From what he understood many of the desert Clans from the Egypt region didn’t really take much notice of the rest of the Quincy world preferring a more traditional, sometimes nomadic, existence. If they managed to secure the allegiance of the sizable Clan in Edfu then that could be all the Order needed to secure a foothold in the region.
He glanced at the pocket watch hanging from the stand on his desk before pulling the old soviet piece from his breast pocket and confirming that it was correct. How the hell was it after 10:00 already? Had the meeting with Freyleif really dragged on that long?
'Calendrea should be here soon.’ he realised, he’d asked her to come to his office at around this time if she had the time. If not he’d reschedule, he knew his protege had a lot on her plate right now.
Picking up his phone he rang the Kitchens and asked for them to have a pot of coffee and two mugs to be brought up to his office as soon as possible as well as some toast and scrambled egg. He hadn’t eaten anything at the meeting with Freyleif and Amelia, honestly he found it difficult to eat food in the morning, but he understood that Calendrea might be a little more normal than him in that regard. Frankly he could have ordered something much more complex but Aodh really wasn’t sure what people usually ate for breakfast, it was a meal he rarely took part in.
Yawning he left the folder lying open and pulled open his laptop. Logging in he quickly did a google search on Edfu and busied himself with learning as much about the region as he could. The man cringed internally, he didn’t handle the heat well although he wondered if he’d have time to visit some of the nearby historical areas such as the temple at Kom Ombo. From what he remember it was a temple of Sobek and also of Hathor. Clicking into the wikipedia article he began reading about the temple instead, surely that could provide insight. What if these Quincy still worshipped the old Gods of Ancient Egypt? Then such knowledge might be useful!
Within minutes the man was absorbed in an article about the Ptolemaic Dynasty. He had always wished he’d been brave enough to do a degree in History instead of Computer Science.
