Aoki, Reika
Rukongai Soul; Future Shinigami
[ AT A GLANCE ]
Age / Apparent Age: 12/12
Gender: Female
Height & Weight: 5' 1"
Hair & Eye Color: Black hair & Brown Eyes
Positive Traits:
- Kind
Reika's always wearing a smile, or so it seems, and can offer a kind word to most anyone - Self-Assured
The girl never seems to doubt herself, always trusting her intuition and her mind to get her through life. - Trustworthy
Reika can keep a secret like no other, a useful skill to have when you grow up in a brothel. - Brave
For a little girl, Reika's got grit in her heart; just ask the boys whose eyes she blackened when they'd pick on the poorer kids from the lower district nearby. - Inquisitive
Be it something shiny or something just inexplicable, Reika's gotta figure something out that fascinates her. This is especially true for mysterious people. - Optimistic
Reika genuinely believes that things can't be that terrible, that there's always something to look forward to. - Joyful
With an infectious smile and laugh, Reika's rarely seen dour or gloomy.
Negative Traits:
- Brash
Reika's stalwart heart and strong opinions have been known to be abrasive to people, and she's put her foot in her mouth a few times because of it. - Gullible
As someone who'd rather believe the best of people, Reika's not very difficult to dupe or trick for anyone with a modicum of talent at lying. - Petulant
When Reika's pocket full of sunshine runs empty she doesn't suddenly become a thunderstorm per se; more like a vicious windstorm with the occasional crack of thunder overhead. - Unpredictable
Reika's been known to follow her whims when left to her own devices, often times to varying degrees of danger. Case in point: who knew that a noble's carriage had so many shiny little things to touch? - Vengeful
Getting on Reika's bad side isn't exactly hard, given her somewhat capricious manner and while she'll forgive and forget fast enough, there are instances where that's just not an option. Instead of dealing proactively with that anger or talking to other people about it, Reika's been known to let it fester. - Misandric
When your mother doesn't know who your father is and men are only transient in your life at best, you're liable to develop some issues with them. In Reika's case, she tends to see men as foolish and unreliable, given her lack of a father and the way they drunkenly amble about the Peony House.
Loyalties:
- Gotei - Distantly
- Peony House
- Emigiku Aoki (Mother)
- Botan
Snapshots:
Emigiku rises to the height of the Peony House and becomes a local legend in the red light district. She soon after discovers she's pregnant, but can't deduce who the father is out of her clients; Mama Botan forces her to keep the pregnancy because of it's rarity and the allure of a pregnant woman to select clientele (Pre Birth)
Reika is born to much fuss amidst the ladies of Peony House. (Age 0)
A boy throws a lump of mud at Reika while she's playing with some local children from a nearby part of Rukongai and calls her a Whore-Child. She feels shame about her mother for the first time. (Age 5)
Reika first witnesses exactly what the Peony House business really is when Mama Botan and some of the ladies explain the birds and the bees by having her peek into a room where a client is being entertained (Age 10)
Mama Botan proposes that Reika begin training so that once she's hit puberty, she can begin her own career at the Peony House; her stomach churns at the thought. (Age 11)
[ ON THE SURFACE ]
Physical Description: Describe how your character looks, sounds, smells, and acts like. Try to focus on the key aspects of a character, such as their body build, demeanor, and vocal patterns, and stray away from useless information that won’t be brought up in a typical thread. This description should be very cleanly written, but not come off as a checklist of features. Try to mesh all of the parts together to create a coherent thought.
Spiritual Description: Similar to above, though this focuses on the spiritual presence of your character. This would be how their Reiatsu appears and/or feels when they release it. Typically, Reiatsu can invoke a feeling of sorts and often takes on a ghostly appearance. Reiatsu cannot be touched or molded and simply serves as dramatic effect.
[ BEHIND THE EYES ]
Personality: Describe who your character is and how they interact with the world. This doesn’t necessarily include what they like or dislike, unless those opinions have an actual effect on the character. That is to say, including that they like to watch it rain is rather useless, however saying they are a hollow sympathizer is certainly worth mentioning. Take into consideration things that will actually be relevant to the story you’re telling and information other thread partners would want to see out of your character. This is where you justify the things you want to do.
Goals & Achievements: This is where you briefly talk about things your character has done in the past, or things they want to do. Please note that you cannot have had any previous position of notable power (such as lieutenant or captain), however mentioning that you were once a seated officer in a certain division is very relevant information. This is a very good place to start a foundation of your story and make notes on the general direction of where you want to go with your character. Above all else, keep your goals reasonable; it was be a little ludicrous to go out the gate wanting to be Captain Commander. However, feel free to update this as you progress, so players have easy access to your current plans and accomplishments.
[ GUARDIAN ANGEL ]
Zanpakutō Spirit: Zanpakutō Spirits are the mentors and guides of Shinigami. They serve as the balance to their soul and guides the wielder towards strength. Commonly, Spirits are seen as a Yin to the Shinigami’s Yang, however being direct opposites is not required. The Spirit must allow a different perspective that the Shinigami needs to embrace in order to grow.
Spirits can look like anything and act like anything -- don’t be afraid to bind them to a standard human or wolf. Be as creative as possible, as these are the true expression of your character’s soul. More importantly, Spirits are not friends, nor are they enemies: they are guiders. A relationship with a Spirit should not necessarily start out on good or bad terms, unless you have a reasonable foundation for that conflict or lack thereof.
Inner World: Much like the Spirit, the Inner World is an expression of the soul. It represents how the Shinigami feels about themselves on a subconscious level. Not only that, it is the only place where they can interact with their Spirit and, typically, the Spirit has far more control over this “realm” than the Shinigami themselves.
Power: A brief (1-2 sentences) summary of your power. This only needs to be as complex or as simple as you want it to be, but remember that the full write up belongs in your second post!
Zanpakutō: Most Shinigami have a standard katana as their weapon and, when unreleased, your weapon should fall under that as well. Unless you have a solid reasoning for not having the standard weapon, consider sticking to the basics for this one.
However, your released Zanpakutō should look like something that either represents their Spirit, or the power itself. Either way, feel free to be creative here and use things that might not traditionally be considered a weapon. While nothing can beat a good ol’ fashioned sword, having something that compliments your power is always worth looking into.
[ LEGACY CREATED ]
Origin: Each of these three sections should be at least a full paragraph (5-7 complete sentences). In your origin, you should talk about where your character was born, describe their death (if applicable) and talk about their time in the Rukongai. This should stop right at the part where they develop enough power to be accepted into the Academy.
Rise to Power: Rise to Power should include the Academy and any time you have spent grinding through the rank and file Shinigami events. This would include you unlocking Shikai and most of your notable events in your history. This is where you explain how your character has gotten so strong.
Call to Action: This is where you talk about the event(s) that made your character shift from an NPC to a player character. For whatever reason, they need to be pulled away from the daily grind and put into the spotlight. In this section, you’ll want to highlight that event(s) and justify why your character is they way they are today.
