Mako had been minding his own business- at least as best he could in the Rukongai's darker districts, carefully paddling along through the alleyways- he was intending on utilizing them as he normally did to avoid as much confrontation with others as possible. His senses telling him which ways were usually safe to go down, and which weren't, but not all choices were easy. Some turns were too long, and alleyways stretching a fair distance- and as such he ran into points where even with all his sensory, and preparation- he ran into individuals. However, usually, it was not literally- this was one of the rare instances where it was as literal as it got. Mako had dashed down one alleyway, intent on avoiding a signature of energy that was becoming far too close for comfort- when he found, to his horror, it continued to follow him. Furthermore, he was running out of possible turns, and his anxiety was growing- was someone chasing him? He'd made plenty of individuals angry enough to warrant such but usually, people didn't hunt him with this much fervor, usually, they gave up after a few turns. It was getting close enough that he could actually identify it far more accurately- and that caused his panic to increase even more.
He had to run, and run- however, the more he took turns the more the signature- a female, got closer. Able to identify her sex now, but not close enough for him to try and feel what her intentions were- and he didn't want her to come closer either. With a panic, he spun, intent on attempting to dash around her and surprise her so that he had a moment to escape- instead, however, as he rounded the corner- he felt his body stumble. Lack of food and his form already being weak and imbalanced due to constant abuse- he stumbled straight into the girl. It was at this point he felt her intent, and realized with confusion- she had likely not even noticed him, when he felt out against her- he found only surprise As much as his own fear as he crashed directly into her, causing the woven basket to tear- he heard things rolling and thumping to the ground, as well as all over him, as he held his head and groaned softly in confusion and pain. It felt like he'd run into a wall, not a woman or girl- he wasn't even sure which it was yet.
Rubbing his forehead and chest that had made contact with her, he hauled his lean frame upward, laying on his back with his upper half now propped up by his elbows, his brow furrowed in a mixture of confusion and fear- even if she hadn't been intending on chasing him before, now there was no way in hell she wouldn't be angry. His eyes flashed from her, noting her eyes, hair color, facial expression- everything he could look at, he did, taking in each detail in an instance. Eyes like a dead fish, hollow, half-open and empty of emotion stared up into her own eyes- his face blank, void of anything that may give away fear, or insecurity. He knew all too well that when angry people preyed on fear- similarly, being angry or emotional just got them even more angry with you. If he was lucky, she wouldn't strike him at least, but he doubted even that judging by her looks. She didn't look like the nicest girl, and he looked like trash .. a fitting and apt description since that's exactly what he was. Matted black locks falling over his face and eyes as he weakly held up a hand, and a single word managing to slip out:
"Sorry,"
It wasn't as though the apology wasn't sincere, his tone suggested it was, however, it held an underlying distant feeling- monotone and dull, and his blank expression certainly didn't help anything. Still, he had apologized, and he meant it- he knew the next step was her own. Some people simply brushed him off, maybe spat on him- others tended to beat the living hell out of him for his "fuckup" just for an excuse to vent out their stress. If he could, he'd try to run from that .. he maybe could get away from the girl in that situation, though he wasn't entirely certain of such, it was at least worth an attempt. Still, if he was really lucky the girl would fall under the first category and simply let him be.
He had no idea that he was incredibly lucky- though not in the way he would have initially assumed or hoped.
