As Levi sauntered through La Colonia, he noticed that the hollows were getting restless. Some walked hunched over, or with their eyes downcast. Many arrancar sported angry scowls or worried frowns. Everyone had a tenseness about their reiatsu. As peaceful as they may have been by hollow standards, they were still hollows. Fighting was in their nature, and they had been trying too hard to suppress that nature. The attacks by the likes of Rick the quincy, and the gun slinging arrancar hadn’t helped matters either. If hollows felt at risk they would seek the power to overcome a threat, and there were only two ways for a hollow to grow stronger. Fight and eat. The glowing yellow dome that now surrounded the city had mitigated the fears somewhat, but it would not be nearly enough to erase the anxiety entirely. Levi would have to ask Zettai what he planned to do about this later, or La Colonia would soon become a failed experiment. They had both known this would happen, surely Zettai had a solution by now?
That was business for later, though. Right now, Levi was interested in one particular resident of La Colonia. One who would be immune to the agitation of the town, though not from the danger it presented. The quincy scientist, Faelan O’Mongan. Zettai had recruited Faelan because of his scientific capabilities, and the chance to work with the quincy’s reishi tools. Levi had allowed it because Zettai was convinced Faelan would not betray them. That, and the fact that Faelan was restricted to La Colonia and was therefore more of a threat to Zettai than anybody else.
That said, his trust of Zettai’s judgement only extended so far. Levi needed to be sure himself that the quincy would remain loyal, at least to an extent. Besides, he had the perfect excuse of being legitimately interested in Faelan’s research. Zettai was certainly right about the benefits of keeping a quincy scientist in their employ. The possibilities of a scientist that could basically create objects out of thin air were virtually endless.
Levi arrived at his destination; a humble looking hollowglass house that was just big enough for a single person to comfortably live, and therefore would raise no questions from the neighbors. The laboratory was underground of course. Levi Suppressed his reiatsu as he opened the door, and tried to feel for Faelan’s reiatsu at the same time. If Faelan had a security camera or some kind of alarm, which Levi would be surprised if he didn’t, and started panicking and trying to hide something, Levi would be able to tell from his reiatsu. Fortunately for Faelan, no such reaction occurred.
Levi walked quietly down the stairs, still focusing on his pesquisa. Still nothing suspicious. A large metal tank marked reiryoku was the first thing Levi saw when he entered the lab proper. The rest of the room was surrounded by shelves of various papers, folders, books, various hollowglass constructs and ginto tubes. In the center of the room was a medical bed, complete with restraints, and in the corner, was a desk in which Faelan sat staring at some kind of paperwork.
“Knock knock, surprise inspection!” Levi yelled with a smile as he walked into the lab, looking around carefully for any security measures Faelan might have installed without telling him. “Really though, I just stopped by to see what you were working on.” That and make sure it had nothing to do with spying, but he didn’t need to know that.
