It had been several weeks since Mako had first met Yuuta in the forestry, and the time that they had spent together had been .. almost dream-like to Mako. Between his time spent with Moriko, and his time with Yuuta, he was feeling an odd mixture of emotions that he had assumed were long buried. He still didn't show any real facial expressions, but nor did he twitch every time either of them approached him- he had begun to memorize their spiritual signature, and he had slowly gathered confidence in his soul that at the least- they were trustworthy. Yuuta sat with him every morning, watching the sunrise, and Moriko popped around occasionally to drag him along on a job so that he could "earn his keep" as she put it.
It was an odd sensation, to feel as though he was actually earning everything he had- whenever Yuuta gave him food he would do some menial task in order to earn it, and despite his original line of thought he was finding that at least every two or three days he'd somehow end up at the boy's home. He still couldn't be touched, he still couldn't handle extended visits, but at the very least he was able to at least interact with them for a short time. Was it improvement? Or was he just opening himself up to further his weakness- it was a hard call really, and it made his mixed feelings continue to grow by the day. The more time he spent with them, the more he wondered when they were going to leave him.
He had thought he would only maintain this to the point of "something to do for the present", but he was becoming wary of this sensation he felt when he saw either of them- a slight clench in his chest, a slight flutter, it was that annoying emotion he had identified as happiness. It was a weakness because he knew that as soon as they abandoned him, or died, that slight flutter would become an agonizing stab that never went away in his chest. Yet, despite that knowledge, he kept coming back- he continued to meet them, and it was slowly driving his concern higher each time he saw either of them. With each slight flutter of happiness in his chest, he felt the same despair in the back of his mind- they were just something for him to lose, it wasn't something to be happy about- and yet he couldn't help himself.
These thoughts plagued his mind, and he struggled tremendously with them- despite all logic, however, it didn't stop him from coming to see Yuuta today. He had asked him to come to the street his home was on, to meet him at the corner- apparently, he had found a way for them to earn some money and help Yuuta's mother a bit, though exactly what they were doing he had no idea. Hopefully, it wasn't some foolish whim that Yuuta hadn't thought through properly that could get him, or Mako hurt or killed. He had quickly learned that his initial judgment of Yuuta had been dead on- an altruistic fool that bordered on insanity due to his thoughtlessness, whims, and over-eager attempts at sticking his nose where it didn't belong under the pretense of being "kind".
Despite that, he had to admit that for some reason- as long as the boy understood to give him his space when he needed it, he didn't .. mind the boy's presence. He supposed that he couldn't deny that fact, or else he wouldn't come and see him when asked, or watch the sun each morning. It was an undeniable fact at this point that at least on some level, he enjoyed the insane idiot being around. Though there were moments where he got fed up with him and wanted to just kick him and run- sadly, he was relatively certain that he would lose a race without any issue or complication on Yuuta's end. He was quite simply too slow as it stood.
The thought made him sigh mentally, his feet had carried him through the shadows of the slums- like a ghost that drifted in and out of the alleyways, in the corner of someone's eye for a brief moment- and then he was gone. It had been smooth going, he had learned this area well enough the past few weeks- and as he came to a halt at the corner he was supposed to meet Yuuta at he would quietly shift back into the shadows of a nearby building in order to hide that much more effectively. When Yuuta came around, he would come out- but until then he had no desire to attract the attention of anyone else that was in the area.
