The near-silent sound of a page being turned every few minutes was the only sound that filled the library of the third. Most Shinigami didn't bother with learning forms of medical knowledge that went beyond the usage of Kaido- after all, the healing arts could usually trump practically anything. However, reliance on the art known as Kaido was incredibly foolhardy in Mako's eyes- there were powers that could shut down Kido, things that hampered the control of Reiryoku and Reiatsu. Everything had to be prepared for- and relying on one art thinking it was the "absolute" was undeniably foolish- it was due to this line of thought that, since his graduation from the Academy- every day after he would train he traveled here.
When it came to information on anatomy, the body, information on Kaido and its strengths- as well as weaknesses, there were very few places that had more information. Perhaps the fourth would have more information on Biology, but he often visited their library as well when he couldn't find the information he preferred. Of course, it wasn't as if his desire to learn stemmed from some kind place in his heart that wanted to help overs- not by any means. Mako wanted to learn how to best put a body back together- because it helped him understand the best ways to take them apart. Anatomical knowledge, understanding of the body- of the spiritual network and how best to destroy or hamper it, the usage of poisons, diseases, and more- all fit keenly into his skillset.
Of course knowing how to perform basic medical treatment in the field was also useful- but it was only a side benefit in his eyes, extra knowledge accumulated that was useful in certain situations but highly unlikely to be utilized. Like a Pathologist knowing how to work on the living to treat them, but never using that information since they spend every day working on corpses. In the medical field, the concepts of life and death were closely intertwined. This fact didn't change even in the Gotei.
Another slow turn of a page- and Mako's gaze would casually slide upward from his book, his senses picked up a few stray reiatsu signatures but none were overly notable- all were a distance away, working diligently on their Kido studies. No one was in this area of the Library filled with books that only "Hobbyists" cared about generally- but that was fine by him. Mako despised having his personal space invaded by others, he was content to work silently alone- it allowed him to relax and calm. But even so, as he always did- Mako made it as unlikely as possible that anyone would even come this way.
Like a ghost- his spiritual presence was completely suppressed, a wisp of smoke in the wind- as it had always been most of his life. It was ingrained in him at this point, near instinct- sensing the energy of those around him, watching every move with his mind's eyes, keeping tabs on their presence- their surface emotions- anything that could tell him a bit of information to keep him safe, give him an advantage. Just as he sensed energy, he hid it as well- remaining unnoticeable through such means. No one would be able to locate him unless they explicitly knew he would be there.
Mako didn't count on the fact that despite all his effort, and being nicknamed a "Ghost of the Library" people still certainly noticed him. No matter how quiet he was, how much he suppressed and hid his reiatsu- people could still see him, and he still had to neatly sign his name and station every time he entered the library for the day. It was bound to attract attention, but that didn't occur to Mako- simply because of the idea that people would be paying attention to a nobody like him with no ranking, was illogical in his eyes. Sadly, most people were not nearly as logical as he was.
Oddities that repeated themselves caught the attention of others- and that would be the reason that he would not be spending his day alone in the library, not this time at least.
