Mastery #1: Broken Ears and Broken Skulls
Current Masteries: None
Desired Masteries: Master Hakuda
Overview: Saya is a very practiced individual. Though she's only been fighting for a comparatively short period of time, she's really doubled down on "by the books" stances and standard defensive tactics. As shown in her spar with Kasumi, she has a very proper stance and almost aggressively uses simple, yet effective counter attacks to aid whatever gap she has in power. Be it striking a weak point on someone (like going for Kasumi's ears and then following up on that), or using her surroundings to her advantage (like using Xinrui's arrows against him), her resourcefulness on top of just raw know-how in the field makes her a relentless fighter.
Though briefly touched on in both the fight with Jinhai and the fight with Lucas, she's already begun to incorporate other skills and abilities alongside her Hakuda. In the fight with Jinhai, we see her using Kaidou to heal herself while still fighting. Though the effects of the Kaidou are, understandably, weakened, it shows a certain level of confidence most just simply lack. She trusts herself enough to keep pushing forward even while focusing on herself herself. Similarly, she brandishes her Zanpakout -- her least used skill by a large margin -- while brawling with Lucas. While these are still in the beginner's stage of development, the fact still stands that she's leagues beyond her peers when it comes to comfort and experience.
The climax moment is in her fight with Lucas. It's her first real fight (I'm assuming the Xinrui fight does not end in such a desperate manner) and we see her really start to fight with all of her might. Right from the get-go she aims to crack Lucas' head open like an egg, showing not only her raw strength, but her more "below the belt" style of fighting. From there, it's a battle between the both of them. Lucas (who is assumed a Master at Hakuda for the purpose of this thread) out skills her and even though they're on an even playing field Reiatsu wise, he quickly out matches her with his combined Hakuda and powers.
But being good at Hakuda is more than just punching good. It's about learning how to fight. It's about reading your opponent's muscles and using that knowledge to effectively counter attack. The way she picks up on Lucas' ability and uses her raw strength all but negate his attack at the end is the best example of a Hakuda user putting all of their knowledge and resources to work.
TL;DR: Saya's method of attacking is more about disarming and immobilizing opponents -- especially those stronger than her. She targets weak spots (like Kasumi's ears, or bashing Lucas' skull against a wall), and then uses her opponent's daze to her advantage. More importantly, she has a quit wit and quicker reflexes that allow her to adapt to situations unlike anyone else. The spotlight of this is her learning the patterns in Lucas' attacks and, eventually, stopping one of his explosions with her bare hand before it even has a chance to go off.
