Temperance and severity are revealed in the keen edge of a polished blade.
[ Character Summary ]
Currently an unseated member of the Second Division, Takashi Sakuma is a Shinigami with the soul of a Rukon wanderer. Having spent many years as a restless rounin in the Rukongai, he has encountered misery of all kinds and is no stranger to hardship. His true goal is to ameliorate the suffering common souls, as he sees the path of the Shinigami as primarily one of service to others carried out via honorable conduct. This places him at odds with his division’s typical mentality. While he is too modest to express his concerns, he has grown increasingly uncomfortable with the methods utilized by the Onmitsukidou. As such, he often experiences intense inner turmoil due to the conflict of his duty to his superiors and his moral duty as a balancer of souls.
Often allowing himself to become over-burdened by menial tasks assigned by his fellow Shinigami, Takashi is a tacit, serious, driven, and relatively friendless individual. The only one seemingly capable of interrupting his withdrawn solitude is his hawk, Kohaku, who serves as a vessel for the spirit of his Zanpakutou. Unaccustomed to luxury, he very rarely allows himself to relax, and his stern, intense demeanor often drives others away. It isn’t that he’s a downer, but you get the impression that cracking a joke in his presence would only elicit a morbid comment about the weakening of the Soul Society’s moral code. That said, he is much more talkative with a blade, allowing his Zanpakutou to speak for him.
[ Post Time-skip ]
Somehow, Takashi managed to miraculously weather the plague that had wracked the Seireitei five years ago. Beneath the new burden of grief and stress, Takashi sealed shut the cracks that had begun to show in his hardened exterior. His personality is now very similar to what it was years ago while he was still a mercenary swordsman and less concerned with the morality of his methods. Detached, reserved, and chiefly concerned with his own survival, Takashi has unfortunately come to see his sense of honor as nothing but futile naivety and has become bitter, even sardonic, towards those around him. Perhaps exacerbated by this dangerous emotional state, his Zanpakutō has begun to whisper his name again after five years of silence. It is an instinctual appeal, drawing him towards the desire for bloodlust that he has always resisted: to ruthlessly cut-down and kill. Now, if he continues on his solitary path, it will only be a matter of time before he gives in.

Please leave a comment in the thread below if you're interested. This is my alt character, so I'll try to keep things more low-key than my main. That said, I'm still interested in developing Takashi's character and powers by interacting with other characters. He's meant to be a modest, down-to-earth (if a bit down-trodden) guy, and hopefully I can write him that way.
