Hello!
I am starting a game / ongoing campaign of Mage: The Ascension. We are using the 20th Anniversary Rulebook to govern play. This game will be run with a combination of Discord and Roll20.
Character sheets and notes, as well as maps and other "Setting info" will be kept on Roll20.
Actual sessions will be used via voice on Discord. Additionally, we will have text-based roleplay 2-4 nights a week in either one on one or small group formats to provide additional play in between the days we run.
So why Mage: The Ascension? Well, it's a very cool setting for starters. Mage is a game about those who have awakened to the ancient art of magic--a piece of itself that humanity lost long ago but is capable of unlocking again! Players will take the reigns of a perfectly normal schmuck who finds themselves at the right place at the wrong time and, through this trauma, is awakened to a whole new world. Placed in a sort of magical Witness Protection Program, the players are alone in a strange new place in a world they do not understand, just trying to get by in the hot desert nights of Las Vegas.
Mage is a game about taking control of reality. You, the Mage, have the power to shape the world around you with the sheer force of your Will and your magical intuition. The game blends faiths, myths, legends, and lore from the world over to create a deep, rich, system where you can do nearly anything you want to do, so long as you are willing to pay the price. Please be warned, Mage the Ascension is extremely rules heavy. This is not a game for beginners to pen and paper RPG, nor is it a game for people who just really like to roll dice. There is a substantial amount of footwork, theory crafting, and improvisation required in every session.
So why me as the Storyteller? I have a substantial amount of experience both telling stories and running games. I've been at it for about, eh, 14 years at this point so I've certainly seen a great many things. In that time, I have come to settle on Storyteller games as my favorite place to really uncork creative freedom. I have run Mage: The Awakening before, and i have participated in Mage: The Ascension before (but not run), so I am confident that I am a good man for this job. Additionally, I find myself having a couple hours free on most week nights. Not every week night, and not a lot of time, but some, on most. So to this end, something I can control the pace of is much more friendly for me, rather than finding a game that would accommodate me as a player.
House Rules:
-Either all Technocrats, or no Technocrats. This game has enough rules. I do not need to try to keep two sets of them straight at the same time.
-Arete is limited to 2 at Character Creation; you will begin play as a Mortal and be awakened, and then we'll start you on the path to move up to 3 right away.
-You may 'burn' or permanently spend a point of Willpower in order to give yourself three automatic successes to a roll.
-Storyteller Approval is required before buying a 5 in any Ability or any Attribute
-If any player is "dropped" in the course of combat, a dedicated action must be taken to kill them. PC's cannot be permanently killed by stray damage or random effects, although these thing can incapacitate you.
Please contact me on Discord if you want to play. I am on CST (GMT - 6) timezone. If you cannot be awake or not-at-work during a time that overlaps with me, this game is not for you, although I thank you for your interest!
Looking to have characters made in the next 7-10 days.
