Unsettled, Daichi sat, noticing the curious stares of onlookers. Indeed it was strange, as normally a First squad member would not be in the facilities of the Fifth squad unless they were there for administrative purposes. This was not the reason Daichi was here, however, as he had a somewhat new situation unfurling over him. Whilst he had participated in many a spar, this was the first time someone had specifically came to him asking for one.
Naturally, he had accepted, as one should always be looking for a way to better themselves, however...he had begun to question himself over his own mentality. Was he maybe...too focused on battle? Indeed, the Gotei was a military force, and practicing combat was a regular activity that should be repeated often lest you wish to die a most brutal death on the battlefield, but...he had begun to feel like it was all he was doing. There are other things that need to be done, like improving familiarity with fellow Gotei members in order to improve teamwork, that he was sorely missing out on. Maybe...maybe after this, he could try talking to the other Shinigami. See if they had any common ground? It wasn't like it would kill him. Hell, it might even do his health some good-his mental health, that is.
With an objective in mind, and a new dose of courage he stood up and started doing stretches in order to prepare for the sparring match. If he was going to try to converse, he had to make a good impression first. But what was the best way to do that? Try his hardest to score an outright victory in order to look superior in the eyes of this Ryuuichi? Or try to lose on purpose, in order to make his opponent feel more at ease? No...who was he kidding? He was Daichi! Like hell he wasn't going to go for victory. Besides, if his opponent realised he lost on purpose, it might make a worse impression, not a better one.
Then subtly, his mind went to an image of his more recent history. Of him. And a familiar girl. Him losing, having underestimated her. He had believed that what he saw meant he would win. It didn't turn out that way. And then he remembered other, previous instances, where he had done the same thing. With Alexander, and Lucas. All very fresh in his mind. After all this time, Daichi had started to notice a pattern. Maybe Daichi wouldn't even be able to lose on purpose. Maybe his aim should be to not shame himself, instead of win. Thinking about this, he sighed, and waited for this mysterious challenger to arrive.
