Rakongai: 1923-1940:
1941-1947 — The Academy:
1948-2017 — Life In The Fifth Division:
[ ON THE SURFACE ]
Physical Description: Despite being quite tall as a child, Yuuta hasn’t grown much since then, gaining only a further three and a half inches since he was 13, rounding his height off at 5ft 3.5 inches much to his dismay. This lack of height only contributes to what many would consider his cute appearance. He has gained a respectable amount of muscle since he was young, his constant training and considered diet have left him with quite an athletic build. He isn’t by any means bulky, nor is he “skinny” either, he lies in a middle ground slightly bulkier than his good friend Mako.
Over the years Yuuta has become what many would consider a handsome man bordering on cute. His skin is unblemished despite receiving scarring during the "The Great Seireitei Massacre" which has subsequently been healed and removed. His skin is slightly tan from his outdoor lifestyle, and overall blemish free apart from his regular bruises from training.
The most distinguishing feature is his bright orange hair, he is rather proud of the way it just does its own thing. His hair is almost never seen combed and lazily hangs between and around his eyes. His eyes are a brown colour which can appear slightly golden under the right lighting conditions, they often convey a feeling of innocent mischief that wouldn’t do anybody any harm. His face is usually rather upbeat and cheeky, befitting of his youthful appearance and outlook on life. Despite being fully capable of growing a beard, Yuuta prefers to keep his face clean shaven which requires daily maintenance. Another noticeable feature on his head is his simple black plug earring in his right ear, the result of a drunken bet during his academy years.
Yuuta tends to hold himself rather well in terms of posture, keeping his back straight and eyes forwards. He isn’t very guarded when he walks, in fact he is visibly rather open as he trusts both himself and his surroundings. Fitting of his very open demeanour, his default voice conveys an upbeat and cheery tone which had adopted a somewhat masculine tone since he was a child. He still couldn’t be called deep by male standards, but his voice isn’t high pitched either, sitting in a comfortable middle ground.
Yuuta tends to wear an unmodified Shinigami uniform when on duty, seeing it as a point of pride which he shouldn’t be messing with as a mere unseated officer. He believes such a privilege should wait until he attains a rank of some description. Outside of work, he favours simple white shirts and baggy sports trousers for when he’s relaxing and isn’t really expecting to see anybody other than close friends. When he plans to go out however, he has a taste for shirts with dorky slogans written across them, or clothing which is kinda cool but not often worn such as braces and a shirt with a bow tie.
Spiritual Description: Yuuta’s spiritual pressure has developed quite a lot since he was a child, it now adopts a golden orange colour. It has a very warm and gentle feeling under normal conditions, yet is somewhat erratic in its movements. When flared his Reiatsu takes on a near spherical appearance with flares of Reiatsu spiking out, it is similar to the appearance of a sun. When flared like this, his reiryoku sends out a harmless gust of wind through it’s sheer pressure, enough to disturb clothing.
[ BEHIND THE EYES ]
Personality: One thing that is quickly noticeable is his altruism, he takes an abnormally high amount of pleasure in helping others even at the cost of his own wellbeing. He would quite happily put himself to great detriment to help decent people even if he doesn’t really know the person he’s helping much. When he falls on hard times or is feeling down himself, his default is to help others with a smile on his face. Whether it is selfish or not is up for debate, even Yuuta himself isn’t sure, but he figures even if it is selfish at least he is helping others.
Another notable trait is that Yuuta is very impatient with himself, if it is for others he possesses the patience of a saint, but for himself this is not the case. He approaches most tasks with a high level of energy, giving it his all from the very start until it is completed to the best of his ability. He rarely things ahead for practical tasks and simply dives into tasks head first, leading to him arguably being careless in many situations. On a studious level, he has reluctantly accepted that this is an area in which he must be careful and plan; it is solely his desire to become a Shinigami which has allowed him to build good study habits.
He has a naturally sharp mind, being able to analyse information on the fly to a level above most people. He rarely overtly shows his intellect, it being hidden behind his cheery and arguably childish exterior. His childish nature is more notably displayed by his apparent compulsion to pout whenever he is mildly to moderately annoyed by something. It passes quickly though, his default nature is to remain cheery and upbeat and as such this often shines through.
When faced with stress, he often internalises it within himself, not wishing for his own discomfort to affect those around him. He hates being a burden to others which is one reason he works so hard, to ensure he can carry his own weight even if he doesn’t expect others to do the same. He is somewhat naive in that he assumes most people are basically good, even going as far as to make excuses for people’s unreasonable actions. This extends to other races too, assuming individuals are good until proven otherwise even if their race is in opposition to the Shinigami. His naivety is quite distinct from foolishness, he will rarely make the same mistake twice in the same situation, learning from mistakes he has made in the past.
Despite his overall very positive and friendly nature, he is actually quite aggressive. If wouldn’t think twice about using his fists to solve a situation if it would be an effective means to do so. He rarely fights with anger or malice, instead enjoying the thrill of fights. It isn’t the aspect of inflicting or receiving pain which breeds this excitement, it is the air of competition between two people. He is very competitive by nature, turning many mundane things into a competition.
Goals & Achievements:
[ GUARDIAN ANGEL ]
Zanpakutō Spirit: Yuuta’s Zanpakuto spirit is known as Asa Shukun meaning Morning Lord in Japanese. Asa Shukun is far more paced than Yuuta, rarely wishing to jump head first into things with the belief that careful planning ensures the greatest success. Unlike Yuuta who simply wishes to help people, Asa Shukun sees it as their duty to help people and that such a duty shouldn't be hindered by societal constraints. He is the one who reminds Yuuta to pace himself and not to let others change him for the worst, it could be said that he is the angel sitting on Yuuta's shoulder. Shukun also has a vast tempter, unlike Yuuta who is excellent at controlling and suppressing his rage, Shukun is prone to out bursts fitting of his representation of the sun; this aspect represents the bottled anger Yuuta is constantly suppressing.
Shukun takes the form of a towering man, standing at 7ft 4 inches tall and weighing over 300 pounds. He is formed of what appears to be pure muscle, dressed in a bright yellow kimono with black lines adorning the edges of the outfit. His face is rectangular with a very sharp jawline and features in general. Shukun's blonde hair is combed back and shaved at the edges, keeping his hair out of his face and away from his golden eyes and sharp thick eyebrows. He has a very serious air about him in stark contrast to Yuuta, but is somewhat bothered that most people seem to cower before him due to his physical presence.
Shukun's voice is very deep and masculine, commanding authority even when speaking at a normal level; his voice seems to pass through walls and people alike due to its pitch. He only speaks when he has a purpose to do so, usually answering in as few words as possible, but should this not convey his message sufficiently he will speak in a surprisingly long winded manner.
Inner World: Yuuta's inner world takes the form of a vast grass plane, at the centre of which is an overgrown forest filled with dense ever green plants. The world is split down the middle with a full moon and dusk occupying the east side no the world, staying cool in the mid teens. Whilst the bright sun illuminates the second half, heating the area to the mid 20's making it quite summery. Neither side is dark and both sides have a completely clear sky showing the balance and naivety of his soul, whilst also highlighting the shade distinct from his light.
Power: Yuuta's power revolves around the concept of stars and specifically light. It can bring destruction, happiness, and also some degree of protection to its surroundings and healing by utilising the characteristics of the sun.
Zanpakutō: Yuuta is like most Shiniigami, in that his unreleased Zanpakuto is a generic katana with a 60cm blade. It has no distinguishing features apart rom the fact it is highly maintained by Yuuta as a mark of respect for his blade.
[ LEGACY CREATED ]
Origin: Yuki herself had been born in the slums, she'd accepted her place in the world and had started to give up on her dream to ever make it out. That was until she met an ambitious shinigami who promised her the world, and she believed it. She was finally starting to build the life she wanted when tragedy was to strike, she was nine months pregnant when her lover died. The stress of the event brought about the birth a couple of weeks early, but with the assistance of a neighbour the birth went relatively smoothly.
As a baby, Yuuta wasn't exactly quiet for the first half a year. He was often up at night crying, but over time he because quite a quiet baby. By the age of 11 months he barely ever woke up at night and was quite low maintenance compared to most. it was why his mother had the time to find love once again, partly motivated out of securing shelter for her young son. Things were going well, and Yuuta even started to call Daisuke dad when tragedy was to strike Yuki once again. Daisuke had a short battle with illness before passing away, leaving Yuki with shelter and the belief she had been cursed. She vowed to never have a relationship with another man again assuming her lovers were doomed to die. Instead she focused her time on cherishing her sole blessing, her beloved son.
He soon blossomed into a kind young boy, helping keep the house clean and wanting to help out everywhere he could. yet he was also astute enough to realise his mom wanted him to be a child, so ofen spent time outdoors exploring. He loved being active, and equally hated being inactive. He also came to look up at the shinigami, seeing them as capable of being paragons of virtue, power and justice. He would often "play" shinigami with his friends, acting out all sorts of missions they imagined a shinigami would do.
It pained Yuki to see similarities between her son and Yuki, but it made her proud. She wanted Yuuta to blossom into a fine young man, but she didn't want him to throw his life away either. Still, she knew it would be wrong to stop him fulfilling his dreams so gave him some hakuda text books she'd saved up for. Needless to say Yuuta was overjoyed with his gift and even over the space of a few years wore the pages down through repeated reading. Every day he slowly developed his hakuda skill, and started to build a steady exercise regime to ready his body for the future.
He was twelve when he met the boy who was to change the course of his life, Mako Fujita. Their first meeting was rather unusual to say the least and involved Yuuta being punched out of a tree, yet he still insisted on being friends with Mako as he could sense a pain within him. This was to be the turning point which advanced his training faster than he could ever have imagined, this also started his "career" as a delivery boy or the mob's black market sweets. It was not long after he started this, that a mysterious sum of money was deposited in the family's safe by Mako, they couldn't prove he did it so they invested the money. A mere year after receiving the money Yuki had developed her skills and career enough to leave the slums for good, moving to a far safer area.
Throughout his teens, he also received training from Mako who was in turn trained by Zabel in the various Shinigami disciplines. It was in order to develop his strength as much as he could before enrolling in the academy, he didn't want to enter as a typical student, he wanted to give himself the best springboard he could to achieve his potential.
Rise to Power: Despite receiving a recommendation, he insisted on taking the standard entrance exam. He'd been studying for it for years, so he would be dammed if he wasn't going to get to use that knowledge and skill. He passed with top marks in all physical tests and even in his weaker areas achieved above average scores (though he still wasn't entirely satisfied). He was surprised Mako and Mariko didn't get such high marks, but he assumed there had to be a reason for it so didn't question it. For Mako he figured it was probably just him not giving it his all, or not wanting to draw attention to himself.
He kinda liked the attention he received for letter of recommendation, but on the other hand it was sort of embarrassing to be so well known. The best part of this popularity was the constant stream of people wanting to test and challenge them, he knew Mako wouldn't like the bother and he was very competitive himself so he took every single challenge that came his way. There was also the fact Mako was a complete savage in sparring so these guys wouldn't know what they were getting into if they were to challenge him. Along with rivals and challengers came more than a few admirers. Yuuta had never had a romantic interaction in his life before joining the academy, he was surprisingly shy at first whenever anything vaguely flirty was said to him. It wasn't until he'd been at the academy for half a year and got drunk for the first time, that his inhibitions and shyness were to take a back seat. From that night on things seemed a lot less awkward with others.
It was not long into his second year when he finally awakened his zanpakuto spirit, he was getting really quite annoyed that Mako had awoken his so early and felt this was overdue. Unlike most of his achievements, he actually kept this a secret from most of his peers except Mako and Mariko. They started off on a positive note from the mere fact Yuuta wasn't intimidated or judgemental about Shukun's size, even if Shukun was somewhat annoyed to be working with such a hyperactive and reckless shinigami. It was a relationship akin to siblings, with Shukun being the older one trying to keep their little brother on the straight path and barely succeeding. Their bond would deepen through weekly meditation, even using the time as study sessions occasionally to maximise time efficiency, something Shukun was more than happy to help with.
In his fourth year, Yuuta went one step further and not only accepted challenges from other students but also offered tutoring in hakuda and hoho. Most of it was out of a desire to pass on what he knew to others to help them develop and thrive in the academy; a lesser part of his motivation was simply to deepen his own understanding by teaching others. He rarely had any time to actually rest between training, challenges, studying and tutoring but it meant his grades stayed consistently good throughout his time at the academy. It also lead to him being somewhat prone to hurting himself, fatigue took it's tool after a while and in his fifth year he had to have a week out to fully recuperate.
It was also in his fifth year that he, alongside Mako, lead a Konso lesson into the human world. His task was quite a simple one, kill every hollow that gets anywhere near the students. It was quite fun all round really, he took the job seriously because there was a lot at stake but that wasn't going to stop him having a good time. For the most part he took base hollows down with his bare hands, finishing them off with his zanpakuto to ensure they were purified. His method of taking down hollows caught the attention of quite a few of the students at the academy, most of whom were actually older than he was.
He graduated in his sixth year, his final year grades mirroring his entrance exam in that he achieved exceptional marks in all physical tests and even some theory tests, with above average in everything else. On the day of his graduation he'd never felt so much pride in himself, all of the hard work and constant training had been worth it for this one moment; and he knew exactly which division he wanted to join.
Call to Action: Yuuta dove straight into division life, it felt like he belonged there as there were several like minded people in the squad. He was able to continually embrace his desire to improve himself ongoing to enable him to help others. All seemed to be going well until "The Great Seireitei Massacre", as part of the Fifth Divison Yuuta felt duty bound to get out there and try and help. He fully realised it was a hopeless battle for him personally but he still wanted to help others, if he didn't what would have been the point of everything up until now? He lasted moments out in the field, barely saving one person before he was caught up in the wave of destruction and left for dead.
The only thing that saved him that day was his reiatsu armour and sheer willpower to hold on long enough for help to arrive. It was a grim day, but amidst the tragedy there was some hope. He had managed to save a single person in what felt like a tsunami of death, and there were other survivors too. This was but a flicker of light amidst a black abyss, his current strength was not enough. Yuuta was unusually quite as he went through the healing process, most would have assumed he was defeated and given up, but those with excellent reiatsu perception would notice the fire that was always inside Yuuta was burning more intense than ever.
He realised he was developing his own strength as fast as he could, but his zanpakuto was perhaps taking a back seat even if it was somewhat moving along. He realised something really rather obvious when he started to think of this, his zanpakuto was quite an imposing man who should know a lot about hakuda. From that day on Yuuta spent two hours in his inner world every day, communicating with and sparring with Shukun. This would turn out to be a very wise move, like Yuuta Shukun bonded with others faster if he was able to spar with them. They both believed in helping advance others and both shared a love for martial arts so it was the natural vessel for development, so natural neither had previously realised it.
