This was to be Akihiko's first full day back in Soul Society, the moment his emerald eyes opened he knew what was to be done. Thanks to the sobering conversation with the Captain of the Second, Kasumi, he now knew that Seireitei was reeling from an attack and things weren't getting much better. It was times like these, in all of Seireitei's history, that Shinigami would step up and lead the way. He wasn't one for following others, so he guess that meant he had to be one of the ones to step up. The first step in that would be doubling down on his training, and thanks to Kasumi he knew just where to start.
Pulling out a clean shihakusho he tore the sleeves clean off before placing it on, obi securing the fabric to his frame. Reaching the sliding door to his assigned room, Aki grabbed Awaisubeta and strapped him to his back. "Alright little buddy, can't have you mad at me today." Speaking aloud to the spirit to whom, he knew was listening, he exited. Heading down the hallways, he turned occasionally as he made his way towards the training court yard. He spared a glance to the replica swords adorning a well made rack, signs of those who had come before and lead the Division. Akihiko wasn't exactly one for 'Division Pride', but the 5th had never treated him wrong. It had simply treated him exactly as he was: a grunt, expendable. The Division would throw him at threats, it was up to him to make sure he would topple them.
Entering the courtyard, he found it mostly empty. It was still early morning, the sun just cresting the horizon. Most of the 5th wouldn't be up yet, and when they did stir they would head directly to the Chow Hall. Aki himself would never be up at this god forsaken hour. Not usually, at least. Motivation was a curious thing though, and a fire had been lit in his belly. This was the first step towards proving to his Division, to his instructors at the Academy, to those who ever rolled their eyes at him, that he was done coasting on talent alone. He would hone his skills through a disgusting work ethic, grueling even. Hours upon hours of beating on his craft was what he resigned himself to, and he would do it if only to shut up those who spoke ill of him. He could care less about being a Captain, Lieutenant, or even Officer. Titles were just that, titles. You could have one and still be, in Akihiko's eyes, an insult to the Shinigami.
Awaisubeta rang from it's sheath, the claymore brought in front of him. He looked upon the emerald wrapped silver pommel, his eyes traveling up the blade. In the year he had been gone, though it was little more than a blink of an eye to him, he had left his Spirit to it's own devices. Surely the Spirit was livid with him. Best to face this now, and calm him down. If Akihiko was going to cover any ground he knew he needed Awaisubeta at his side. Not watching his back, like some side kick, no. Beside him, as just as much a part of this as he was. This wasn't his journey, it was their journey.
Taking a seat in the courtyard, the morning rays just now reaching his ebon locks, Awaisubeta was rested across his lap. Communing with the Spirit wasn't difficult, not anymore anyway. And so with a heavy in take of breath, the usually loud and obnoxious Shinigami closed his eyes. Immediately he was standing in the familiar circular field, trees surrounding the clearing but dare not enter. The volcanic mountain in the distance, usually circled by a lazy cloud, had a single puff of smoke rising from it. Given what had happened, this small change to the world didn't exactly throw him through some loops.
"AAAAAAAAKKKKKKIIIIIIII~!" The shrill yell caught his attention just as he turned to the source. A silver streak, a dart really, slammed into his chest. Despite the Spirits pint sized nature, it was enough to put him back flat on his rear. In the Shinigami's chest, the small fairy beat it's tiny fists against the broad man. "You....ass!"
Akihiko, letting out a small laugh. "Well hey there, Beta. I figured you'd be in a tizzy!"
Ignoring the degrading nick name, Awaisubeta looked up at him. The view was comical, tears in the corner of his eyes, bottom lip pulled up into his teeth. "You can't just do that! I was worried!"
Akihiko's features softened before he patted the fairy gently on the head. "I know. I'm sorry. I have no idea what happened, but I'm glad you're in one piece. Dunno what I'd do without my partner in crime."
Seeming satisfied with this, the fairy took to the air, wiping his eyes on the 'sleeves' of his armored body. "It's fine, just...I was worried. Cause you're a jerk. I'm glad you're okay though. I kept trying to call you, but you wouldn't answer. And then it got dark and I was worried cause it's always sunny. Well, I mean it snows sometimes, but that's to be expected."
Akihiko found this bit of information rather interesting, though it was filed for later. Now it was time for other things. "Alright, bud. I got a favor to ask you."
"You can't just show up after all this time and start making demands! The hell do think I am!? A wish granting fairy!?"
"Not a demand, a favor." Aki sighed, his face changing from the usual sly grin to a mask of seriousness. Sensing the gravity in Aki's change of expression, Awaisubeta pursed his lips.
"Well, if you're gonna be serious about it...what is it?"
"I'm going to train. Hard. Doc said I should rest for two weeks, but you know me and I know you. We do rest on our own time, not when someone says to. So...gonna need your help, partner. Whatever we do, where ever we go, I don't want you just having my back, I need you standing with me."
