“Attention, passengers,” the pilot with a heavy german accent said in English, “We will be arriving at Berlin Brandenburg Airport shortly. We hope that your flight has been a pleasant one. Thank you for flying…” Raph put his headphones back in his ears. Good. He was glad that they would be arriving soon, the biggest problem of all was that he was going to have to give some kind of report, and man was he shit at those. To be honest, Raph was luckier than he was willing to admit; the storms that had been caused by battles a day or two back hadn’t abated and so only a few planes had gotten out, one of which had been Raph’s.
As he got off the plane, Raph couldn’t help but smile; after all Germany was a beautiful country. Yet, there was something in the stillness of it that bothered him, which was why Berlin amazed him. Raphael was a city guy at heart, though that wasn’t to say that he didn’t love the country, but the city was where his heart lay. Thus, as he exited into that beautiful German capital, he couldn’t help but smile. He switched his phone off of airplane mode, only to receive a message that there was going to be a meeting of the quincy the next day. That would mean that he had a good few hours to not only eat and drink, but also sleep.
That was when he heard a rather familiar sound: someone screaming for help. His ears were practically fine-tuned to it, especially considering all the time he’d spent fighting against criminals in his hometown. Regardless of where he was in the world, it appeared that criminals, people with ill intentions, didn’t change. He could hear them from where he was, a woman being attacked by someone. It wasn’t that far away, but it was deeeefinitely going to be a bitch.
He walked slowly into the city, allowing the rush of the lights and blur and voices to overtake him. The castle had been quiet and Chicago had been silent while he’d been nearly overdosing on his own drug. But now, it was almost like coming back to life all over again. And there, down an alley, was a man trying to take a woman’s purse.
“Come on, buddy,” Raph shouted, “Don’t you think that you could do something better than this? There are other ways of making money, surely.”
The man turned around and Raph was a bit taken aback by the man. One half was charred black while the other was a deep tan, and fire was erupting from his hands. It was obvious that he’d received some kind of power, but how exactly had he acquired it?
The man glared at him. “Do you know just what I can do?!” The flames intensified. “I can shoot fire out of my hands, dumbass!!”
Raph watched the man without a word, and then with a few quick hand movements, cement liquified and began wrapping around the man, starting first with his hands. It pulled the would be assailant to the ground before covering his legs as well.
“Well, well, well…” Raph said as he knelt down in front of the man. “Now look who’s all tied up.” No answer, the man simply glared at him. “Tell me something, if you would: from where did you acquire this ability?” Still no answer. “Alright then… Hmmm… We’re going to play a little game, ok? See, I’ve got some powers too, and I’m going to use mine to break your bones one at a time, until you decide to talk. How does that sound?” The man’s eyes went wide for a second, and then he started laughing.
“How are you going to do that? Looks to me like you control cement!”
A chuckle escaped Raphael. “Wrong. I’m afraid.” And Raphael made a small pinching motion, there was small crunch and the man yelled. “We’re not playing nice, today. I’m being serious. Now… tell me. Where. You. Got. Them.” Raph watched the man patiently, and when nothing happened, he severed the bones on the man’s wrists, and listened as the man screamed. “It would be much easier if you just told me.”
A few hours later and Raphael was walking into a rather dimly lit building. He’d finally managed to get the information, though it had taken a few more broken bones than Raph thought. There were more people in this area than Raph thought, but they didn’t seem that impressive. Still, as he entered the building, he knew that he would have to be on his guard. There wasn’t much that could lie in store.
