Dawn.
During the summer months, dawn would come exceedingly early in comparison to the winter months, and it was the most likely time for Shinku to get some peace and quiet outside of the Hive. Forced to spend most of her time within the cave she called her cave to ensure that she remained unseen and undetected, she didn’t get to enjoy the sunlight as much as she would have liked, but it was a price she was willing to pay in order to survive. There simply were too many Shinigami and other predators that were simply stronger than her, and she didn’t feel like wasting the lives of her children in a pointless fight that could be avoided. But at dawn, when the sun was just cresting over the horizon, Shinku stood tall outside her cave, basking her exoskeletal skin in the warmth of the coming day. Standing over ten feet tall and with a body that would scare even her fellow Hollow. She was the predator of this area, just west of the city limits of Karakura, and her hunting grounds rarely intruded into the city limits. Even then, it was almost never her who went in, but her children, gathering the weak hollow and devouring them, and then returning that energy back to her upon their return.
Two Aka Okami emerged from the den, their footsteps light and quiet, but she could feel them approach, eager to serve their mother in whatever tasks that were needed for the day. These small beasts were slightly large than wolves, and all teeth, claws, muscle and carapace, but their pack mentality and unyielding loyalty made them perfect for hunting without risk. This was also the perfect time to attack and get her meal for the day out of the way as well, before most of the humans were awake and when the people who guard during the night were the most tired. Shinku’s senses easily picked up a bestial hollow just inside the city limits, and she considered it’s position for a moment before bringing a clawed hand down to pet the head of the Aka Okami on her right side… considering the possibilities. Yes, he wasn’t very strong, and definitely without intellect, so he would do for now. The Aka Okami gave a deep growl as it received the instructions she fed the creature through her touch, and then it rushed off with exceptional speed, taking point of a pack of six of the beasts, they rushed towards the target with eerie coordination. Shinku herself ducked into the cave just enough to be out of sight, folded her claws over each other, and her glowing purple eyes intensified as she linked her mind to the pack leader, seeing what she saw and able to give him orders directly.
The ground rushed past her vision, and she could feel his powerful legs pounding against the earth with a much quieter grace than the clawed feet would appear to be capable of. Stealth was a large part of the operations here, and while the Aka Okami were very easily capable of going much quicker, the cost to their speed for the extra ability to remain quiet was worth the price paid. It wasn’t long before they were upon their target, most of the pack pulling back and slinking into alleys and behind cars, the leader approaching the beast directly. It looked like a physical hollow, a non-flyer, which was good. It turned towards the Aka Okami, sensing it’s spiritual energy, and the dog-like beast backed up as it started to march towards him, slow but strong in appearance. The Alpha backed up more, leading it towards where the rest of the pack was hidden, and after a few more steps, they were upon him. The beasts leapt at multiple levels, three attacking the head while another two smashed into the arms, the Alpha itself rushing forward and positioning itself near it’s leg and then crouching down, bracing itself. The extra weight, surprise and the pounce of the multiple creatures sent the hollow off balance, stumbling over the Alpha and knocking it down. It was all over in seconds; tooth and claw tore at the beast, ripping through muscle and tendons, and then devouring the beast with a fervor that could only belong to a Hollow. All that was left was a large pool of blood where the hollow had been, and a well coordinated pack of beasts retreating from the city and back towards their lair, trying to escape detection before they were exposed completely to the daylight.
But, simple beasts as they were, they could not detect that they had a follower. Shinku herself felt the presence though, and retreated deep within the caves to her Hive within. If she needed to flee, she would be ready, because this Hollow felt much stronger than she herself was.
