Dinner was almost ready. She had some miso soup with spring onions, porcini and a bit of tofu. Then rice with slices of beef, onions and a sauce of tomatoes and more mushrooms. With green tea brewing, she let the plates stand on the little table which was put up, and headed back into her office to get a couple of reports she would try to do while eating. The evening was still young and she had left most of the side shoji in her office open to enjoy the refreshing breeze floating in once in a while.
Rummaging through the papers her senses picked up a new reiatsu signature. It was coming from the side, but not from the door which led to the hall and the rock garden. Frowning a bit she let her gaze dwell over the floor toward the part where she expected to see the other Shinigami, but didn’t. That’s when her frown started to deepen slightly, and with a couple of papers still in her hands, she then noticed a string of hair. Looking up her eyes then met a quite extraordinary sight.
“What are you doing there?” She calmly asked without letting go of her documents. “Get down.” The papers were set on the side of the desk so she wouldn’t forget them. Now all of her attention could be devoted to the little Shinigami standing in front of her. Probably a foot smaller if not more, the petite girl with her purple eyes and the same shade of hair was holding onto something.
“There is a door, you know.” Tilting her head a bit to the side she nodded toward the shoji people usually used to get into the office. “You can use that one to leave, and to enter the next time.” Letting her words sink in - she hadn’t sounded angry or upset - Kasumi then gave the smaller Shinigami a gentle smile.
Reaching out to accept the files this one had brought her, she let their gazes meet briefly. “Thank you.” A soft growl coming from her subordinate had Kasumi looking up with a slightly raised eyebrow. The sound seemed to have come from her stomach, and Kas really had to do some effort in order not to smile too widely. “If there’s nothing else then you’re dismissed.”
Once the girl was gone the Captain put the freshly delivered report on the pile she had been preparing and then moved toward the exit as well. It would be nice to grab some dinner early on, that way she would be able to stretch her muscles later on and have a relaxed evening while sorting through the interviews she would have tomorrow.
A recruit requesting being unseated from the get-go, then two soldiers with information and potential fuel to earn a seat, she thought while making her way into the kitchen. Something interesting was going on, because while she walked she still felt the presence of the girl who had just handed her to last report of today (so far). Hearing the noise in the silent Annex, Kasumi let a single flash step carry her across a part of the rock garden all the way to the kitchen’s shoji.
Of course she hadn’t been certain of what she was supposed to find in her cozy kitchen, but the little purple haired Shinigami eating her food hadn’t been one of the scenes that had quickly flown through her mind. With arms crossed in front of her chest, she let the papers hang from her right hand while leaning against the doorway in order to block the only escaping route. Letting a second pass she then loudly cleared her throat and fixed her bright blue eyes on the rascal.
“Enjoying the food?”
