The high noon sun was a bit too warm for her tastes, so a tree was the perfect place to be meditating for the moment and keep out of the oppressive heat. And, because it was an option, naturally Yui was hanging upside down from said tree, and was meditating and communing with her sword. She enjoyed meditation and the calm and quiet of it all, and because she was on the outskirts of the 2nd squad district of Seireitei, she was relatively certain that she wouldn’t be disturbed, and that was how she liked it. Not like anything productive would have come out of trying to link up with the people in her squad, even for sparing. She would get worked up because of their comments or superior strength and things would get out of hand, like they always did, and she would wind up regretting it later. And, because she was within the boundaries of their district, she was placing herself available for missions and messages, as was her job. She couldn’t just stay in her home all day; she had a job to do, even if it was never anything too horribly fun.
That train of thought brought up the conversation that she had with the Captain, and she was infinitely curious what was going to come out of that entire scenario. Yui’s world had been shaken, but it was necessary because the way she was going she would have wound up dying a horrible, not to mention pointless, death. She would forever be grateful to Captain Kasumi for waking her from that cycle of self defeat, but now it was time to act on what she had gained from that interaction. But how? She needed to discover a new angle, a different way to truly test herself and see what she was capable of accomplishing. More than that, she needed to push herself and work towards a new goal… towards being able to finally break through the surface of anguish that she had felt for so long, that weakness that had wrapped around her ankles like an immovable weight. She would become strong, and then, everyone would acknowledge her for the capable warrior she knew she was on the inside, and they would have no choice but to recognize her strength and skill. She would stop until there wasn’t a single soul in the 2nd division… no, in all Seireitei, who had not heard her name, but not the same as someone who climbs to fame or is noble. No, what she wanted bordered on fear. She wanted them to see her and know without a single doubt that she was not to be taken lightly.
Then Fight.
The voice was cold, critical, and strong. It was Shiva, calling to her mind from her blade, telling her what she felt that Yui should do to accomplish this goal. Yes, she should fight… but whom? Certainly, sparring had it’s merits, and she had begun challenging people, stronger people, in order to find where she measured up to them. But she needed something more substantial than little challenges of the other members. She needed to expand her vision, find a different angle, and once she had found the path that led to her becoming stronger, take a hold of the beast, sink her teeth into it, and never stop. But discovering the path was going to be the difficult part of it all, as she was certain that she was never going to be able to find it by sitting here and thinking about it. She needed to go out and stalk—er… observe some stronger people for a bit, see what she could discover.
So enraptured by her mediation and thought process, she temporarily grew lax in scanning the nearby area for spiritual pressures, and there was someone approaching that she hadn’t even taken notice of just yet. They would see her in the shade of the tree, eyes closed, breathing shallow, hanging upside down from the tree and her sword no where to be found. One of the easiest ways to meditate while communing with her sword was in Shikai, when Shiva literally became a part of her own body. Her long purple hair was tucked into her collar to keep it sliding down to the ground, and there was a very faint but distinct pink glow outlining her body, a sign of her spiritual pressure manifesting itself just barely in the physical world. Her intense focus and the fact that she had removed herself from the paths most taken had allowed her to lower her guard and awareness, and she didn’t even hear the footsteps as the other Shinigami made their approach to her position, clueless as to what this person’s intentions were and what they had planned.
