Fear-- Anger-- it was clear on her face, causing him to slowly lower his hands as they intertwined. Watching her as she explained that it was impossible, that she tried everything, that she wasn't strong enough-- and as she commented on not wanting to talk about it, he would continue remaining quiet as he watched her. Finally, releasing a slow breath he stated firmly.
"If you're not going to listen to my counsel, then there's no point asking, Puffin." It was blunt, and probably a bit colder than he should have been-- but it was true and honest. Every excuse she had listed, he had already countered preemptively, and she refused to listen to his reason. He'd already said his piece, it was her decision to think about it and accept it or not, he moved on and left the subject before-- leaving it to her to figure out on her own. If she approached him on the subject again and wanted help-- he'd offer it, but if she was too locked in her own fear and anxiety to listen to logic, there was no point.
"I don't," He stated simply as he rested his chin in his palm once more, relaxing a bit as he looked at her, noting the refusal to look at him, and stating the next words deliberately in comparing to what she had stated previously.
"I never wish I could go back because I never regret anything I've done. It's part of what makes me who I am, no matter how dark or idiotic it may have been-- it was a step I took to become as strong as I am now. Regretting my past decisions is just like regretting where I am in life now. Any time I've not been happy with myself, I moved forward. Looking back does nothing." He shrugged a bit, tone gentle, but firm as he stated this-- allowing his gaze to lift up to the sky as it would seem the girl was determined to no longer make eye contact.
Likely because of a part of her, somewhere deep inside, knew that his words were true-- and were hitting cords of frustration that no one had ever touched beyond her due to how closely she kept her secrets. Now he was plucking those chords, and forcing her to not only face them but question her own way of handling things. He wasn't surprised by her reaction-- but he was disappointed in her a bit. Still, it was understandable, she likely needed time to adjust-- it was hard to just snap into a new way of thinking, after all.
