His question about why she might have been overly emotional actual brought a little chuckle from the tiny Shinigami, and she paused to address him with an answer she was sure that he would appreciate. “I could be here all day with that list… no shortage of struggle and strife, but I feel like we would both be wasting our time and energy with that one.” Part of her wanted to ask why he cared, but part of her wondered if that was just lingering resentment and pushed it aside… he had been kind enough to not only heal her, keep her house from falling on her head, and providing her a chance to get her belongings outside, but he also hadn’t even asked forgiveness, just explanation. Perhaps, just perhaps, he wasn’t so bad after all… but that would remain a large question mark for the moment.
Most of her books were relatively common, if not incredibly important, to Yui’s line of work. Human anatomy and pressure points, circulatory and nervous systems, and other topics that would be used if she was called to take down a foe for questioning or eliminate and enemy, be them Hollow, Human or Shinigami. But then there were other books as well, one on Astronomy both of Seireitei and of Earth, cookbooks, and dozens of title-less journals that were comprised of small notebooks that she had been seen with before. “A couple of them I haven’t found in libraries, but most of them are pretty standard issue… and my notebooks contain the notes I take all the time so I can refer back to them when I need to. Don’t have the best memory.”
She didn’t mine explaning in more detail, but she figured she would cover the knick knacks and artifacts she possessed as well. “Most of them are sentimental, I guess, but some have function too. That one there,” she pointed at one particular small device that looked like a glass marble that was empty, “is supposed to replicate the ‘feeling’ of what happens when a Hollow starts to prepare a Cero, so you know what it feels like if you can’t see it. A training tool the 4th let me have when I helped them one time.” Her voice was factual, like she was still avoiding the emotions tied to what was happening.
She was asked what she intended to do now and she opened her mouth to speak, and nothing came out, the words choked into her throat as she tried to be strong, but couldn’t. It was good too, because as the despair of the situation came to mind, Yui heard him speak again, saying that her home could be saved if that is what she wanted. The little ninja’s head whipped around, looking at Alain in complete shock and disbelief… perhaps she had indeed been wrong about him all along… and she couldn’t help but smile as the tears fell when he said that the lessons for cooking would need to be held here… There was still the problem of ‘how’… Yui was not an engineer by any means, but she could certainly try to figure something out. “If we could do that… you have no idea what that would mean to me.” She gave him a smile and wiped away her tears, looking at the house with hope. “Alright… so how do we go about it? Know anyone in the 4th who would be willing to lend us a hand?” The hope flared around her like a force, changing the little woman for the better very quickly, and she silently thanked him, knowing he probably wouldn’t accept it verbally.
