Karakura Town was ever the hotbed of spiritual activity and, as such, Raphael found himself frequenting the city more often than he’d really care to admit. He knew a lot of people throughout different parts of the city and, whenever he came back, he always made it a point to visit a select few of them. For everything that had happened to Raph, it felt like the city never changed. The people here were just like people everywhere: resilient and adaptive. It always made him happy seeing the town rebuilding.
Raph walked onto the streets, the flaring lights from the club behind him fading as quickly as they’d come. Understandably, he’d become a bit more wary of them since his last trip to a big one in Germany, but he had yet to come into contact with another problem. Still, this had him worried. He hadn’t come out here at the request of the quincy, but because he was concerned about what would happen if they came into conflict with the KSN. Not to mention that there were still hollows in the area. He hadn’t pledged anything to the quincys’ pet project, but he didn’t mean that he wasn’t worried. Spiritual politics were about as volatile as that of the Americas, and the last thing that Karakura Town needed was more bad blood between the quincy and Jian’s group.
To make matters worse, on a personal level, he was still suffering from the after effects of whatever the hell the arrancar in Germany had done to him. He had been monitoring his own condition, and so far had experienced a marked increase in aggression, a stronger utilization of his telekinesis as well as the accidental acquisition of a technique that was eerily similar to a hollow one. It didn’t matter as much in the long run, it was just another tool in his belt.
At the very limit of his senses, he could sense a hollow, no several hollows, hunting after something. Normally he would’ve waited on someone, a quincy or Shinigami to engage them, but this time there was something that stymied that thought, something that drove him to engage these creatures. Before further thought had passed through his mind, before a full strategy could be formed, he was flying towards this pack, his every intention to rip them apart. Something in the back of his mind told him to formulate some kind of plan, but as far as he was concerned the entire plan was land and kill them all. It made no difference what kind of powers they had, there was no way that any of them would come close to matching him.
He landed quietly in the middle of a wooded park. They were hunting here, both spirits and normal humans alike, no doubt hoping to score an easy meal. There were three, but only one was a true threat, the others were still just a tad too weak to be considered dangerous to people like Raphael. Still to the average person they could easily be ripped apart by these beasts. Normally he would’ve considered careful hunting, but here Raphael was concerned; concerned about the thing inside, concerned about what he was constantly feeling, and most of all, concerned about the odd beam that he was capable of firing. He wanted this over quickly. It was, for this very reason, that he allowed his power to flow unrestrained, to pull them in quickly.
The ruse worked. Without minutes, three hollow signatures were bearing down on him. It wasn’t but a few seconds of waiting and they appeared, one wolf-like hollow, one snake like hollow and one gorilla-like hollow. As he felt them out, he realized that the only dangerous one was the snake, especially with its blade-like tail.
They wasted no time, the wolf like creature leaping to the attack, which was an unfortunate mistake for the creature. As it sailed towards Raph, he simply sidestepped and caused the ground to become spikes beneath the thing as it landed. It gave a yelp, and then a long gurgle, before it stopped moving. The spikes had pierced its hide and, worse for them, its mask. The hollow twitched twice, blood oozing from its wounds, and then faded away. The second leapt into the air to strike, though it was apparent that his guard was up. Raph pulled up one spear, but the hollow grabbed it at the last second and leapt about a foot away, destroying the spear.
It spun around, suddenly, to strike at him, but with a quick pivot Raph struck the large ape with his open palm and then brought his fist through its mask. Two down… But the third, and final, was the biggest problem, well besides the fact that Jian might have found out that someone was fighting in his city. It slunk around him, at a frightening speed. Held up his fists, watching the creature. It circled him slowly, surrounding him.
As it struck with its fangs, Raph jumped out, but the bladed tail came swinging around at him. Raph pulled up a wall of rock and dirt. The weapon, though, carved right through the wall, carving a gash through Raph’s left leg and up his left arm. Grimacing, he pulled himself up, before dashing back. Raph reached out with his telekinesis. Arms of stone shot up, wrapping around the snake and holding it to the ground, and energy began to gather in his right hand. But the creature suddenly ripped itself free. This wasn’t going to be as easy as Raph had thought.
