It had been about a month since her fight with the Quincy known as Erek. Part of her hated the man with every breath for slaughtering her Legion… but this hadn’t been quite the same. When the Kidou Shinigami had done it, he had pinned them to the ground with spells, leaving the claws and teeth unable to defend themselves as they were pinned to the earth and subsequently slaughtered like they were nothing more than sheep. This time had been different; Erek had fought them, but she felt like it had been an honorable fight, as they had fought back and the end result had been a draw. Mostly, she noted that her creatures didn’t feel ashamed of their deaths, but instead they too respected the man and his strength. The Legion had helped her stand toe to toe with a foe many times their strength and come out just about even, and it was mostly due to her numbers and superior tactics. Her wounds had only recently healed completely, the thick exoskeleton having shed the cracked plates from his final blow and finally been restored. She simply wasn’t strong enough yet… but she would get there. She knew she could be far more powerful than she was now, and it wouldn’t take hardly any effort on her part to get there, but considerable risk.
That risk was the reason she was still here, in the human world, after all.
She could feel it… lurking within her, the desire to go to Heuco Mundo and fight with the Hollow there. Consume them. Feed until she was no longer able to consume another drop of their souls. Take over the Menos Forest until it was covered in her Legion and forced those there to submit to her will… Shinku forcibly shook her head to clear her mind of those thoughts. That was the instinct kicking in, the drive to evolve… but she knew that it wasn’t so simple. She would do those things, likely, and then become a Menos Grande that was capable of so much more, at the risk of losing herself. She had gathered that much information; most Base Hollow that became Menos Grande were stuck that way for the rest of their lives, walking around and doing the bidding of the Adjuchas. Nothing but towering Hollow capable of firing Cero on command, following anything that had a mind of it’s own. She wouldn’t become a slave, of that, she must make absolutely certain.
Deep within her Lair, she ran a claw over the spot where she had been struck, letting them graze over the Hierro gently and with a press, testing it slightly. She was not one to take chances, and while it appeared fully healed, she knew that there was definitely a chance that internally things could still be damaged. To her pleasure, it seemed that everything was in working order though, and she was indeed capable of resuming her normal activities. With that in mind, she took a look around her Lair and did a mental check on her forces; while she hadn’t been able to walk, her facilities that allowed her to spawn her eggs had been undamaged, and she had restored her Legion to full strength. She had even developed some new ways to use her Eggs, and yet another method for detecting intruders that she had yet to name just yet. Hiru (leech) seemed appropriate for the way it acted; covering the floors, ceilings and walls in a bio-organic carpet of sorts that was truly alive and helped her Legion by sharing her energy with them, while also drawing the ambient energy out of the air that circulated through her Lair and storing them in empty eggs for use later on. She would have never discovered either had she not been forced to remain still for so long, unable to continue her normal routine, and in that regard, Erek had the great Hollow’s thanks.
But as much as she respected him, a large part of her hoped beyond anything else that they would not ever meet again. He was simply too strong, and she was not prepared… she would need to increase her power, which brought her back to her first train of thought. What she needed more than anything else right now was information and preparation for the next step.
