It was a little after eleven o’clock in the morning on a Friday. Nearly a week had passed since his encounter with the hollow breed at the underground marine biology facility. Now he was sitting in a tree with a clear view of Ostiya Hill. Around his body sat a Kyokko spell, hiding his appearance and masking his reiatsu. He was a patient guy most of the time, but being unable to use his notebook to pass the time, was a growing annoyance. Sadly, that was the nature of the bakudo. Fortunately, he had less than an hour to wait before someone arrived. The handwritten message which he had found, stated that Takioma Satou would be meeting with who he suspected was the octopus-like hollow. However, Satou had been killed and the hollow was likely going to be a no show. Of course both of these facts were irrelevant. As soon as he learned that there was a connection to the hooded stranger, Alain was prepared to follow whoever showed up. He simply hoped that it was a single person rather than a group. A weaker individual would also be preferable.
When he finally noticed the first signs of movement, he was certain that an hour hadn’t passed yet. This meant that the party had arrived early. Merrick didn’t have the best view of the hill’s peak, but in the interest of safety, he wanted to maintain a good distance from the meeting location. Nevertheless, it didn’t take long to recognize the person whose head popped up from the horizon. Son of a bitch. I knew that they were working together. He found himself staring at the tiny, female Arrancar which he had temporarily captured and questioned a few weeks ago in Karakura. He had never learned her name and the incident ultimately ended with her escape, but always hoped to run into he again. With luck, this occasion wouldn't involve an assault at the hands of the cloaked figure and two other Arrancar henchmen. In any case, the little Arrancar's presence posed a problem. She was too fast. If she detected him following, she would likely manage to escape once again. But what else could he do? He had to risk it.
