Raph breathed in deeply as he stepped off of his plane in Chicago. The air was thickly choked with smog, the sun shone down on the city and the cars were hastily driving back and forth with as little regard for pedestrians as each one could possibly muster. To Raph, this was home and he was always just a little uneasy if he was anywhere that someone hadn’t tried to hit him with a car. Not that it would matter nowadays. If he was about to be hit his brain would’ve probably kicked some kind of barrier into effect to protect him or something like that.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t here on pleasure and thus couldn’t allow himself to simply enjoy this little bit of time in his hometown, no matter how much he wanted to. Following their rendezvous, Frey had told Raphael that Angeni was her mother, well adoptive mother. Raph knew of her, she’d been in Vigilance and he’d had only the briefest of dealings with her. After what had between himself and Frey, however, Raph felt like he owed Angeni, Frey and himself a talk with Angeni. He didn’t know if she knew about the death of the twins and really hope that she didn’t know about his and Frey’s union.
It wasn’t until he thought of that, that a new thought occurred to him: how angry with him would Angeni be when he told her? The woman had always struck Raph as someone that upheld tradition rather rigidly. He didn’t know how she’d react to the news and that set Raph’s nerves on edge. He knew that she was quite skilled in the manipulation of the elements, thanks to Freylief, and so, as he stalked the streets, he kept going over how exactly he would tell her. He mulled the words over again and again in his head, occasionally even saying them out loud without thinking.
“Ms. Angeni I… Errr…well… You see…” He stroked his chin absentmindedly in thought as he walked clear across the street not even paying attention when a car nearly hit him and started honking its horn at him, driver screaming every obscenity under the sun. “Oh, hi Angeni!” he said, waving in his mock conversation with the air. “I’ve been looking for you, and might I say what a pleasure it is to speak with you again.” He paused for a moment before continuing. “Hm? Why was I looking for you? Well…” And suddenly he began to shake a little, and people passing by him watched him a little concerned. “You see, it’s about Frey.” Oh yeah, really smooth. Just cut right to the chase. “What about her? I… Well, I mean…” And he cleared his throat, thoughts turning back to his first time at the castle, momentarily distracting him. “Ms. Angeni,” he said. “I’ve been looking for you, because I needed to talk to you about Frey…” He was so caught up in his rehearsal and thoughts of his first time to the castle that he didn’t notice someone coming up right behind him. If he had…well he would’ve stopped practicing a while ago.
