With one shoulder lightly leaning onto the opened shoji and arms crossed in front of her chest she watched the sun rays draw stripes of gold on the porch. Some almost reached her sock covered toes, but most were still miles away. That was exactly how she liked the sun and its warmth - faraway from her. If it wasn’t from the nice morning breeze coming in now and then, she probably wouldn’t have been standing partly outside this early in the day. Not that sleep had been its usual self lately. Knock
The distant sound of knuckles scraping against wood brought her back to the office. Stifling a yawn, she turned to hear another careful knock. Not too hard, but hard enough to be heard. Very appropriate for Yui. Somehow fitting, even, for how things were turning out nowadays.
“Come in.” she let her know but didn’t move to head back to her desk. Paperwork would wait, and today would be busy enough later on. For now it was time to relax a bit. Shake the stiffness from her muscles which ached to be used. Walking would have to do.
“Good morning,” a half smile as she turned to slip onto the porch. “follow me.”
The sun wouldn’t be up entirely for a while longer. They still had some time to enjoy the cold that was left lingering by the previous night. Bits of glistening water on the long grass blades witnessed to that and muffled their steps. However, they made the path the duo took quite treacherous.
“How have you been liking your new position?” Breaking the silence with the obvious question, she continued to walk through the garden.
“From what I understand you’ve been handling your newly found responsibilities quite well.”
There was no mockery in the tone she used. By now it didn’t matter if Yui had made it through her doubts on her own or had leaned on Kasumi’s threat whenever things got dire. All that mattered was that she was here and she appeared determined.
There were a couple of small details tugging at Kasumi’s attention, and she let her curiosity win a short moment later. “Where did you leave your weapon?”
