The litany of brightly colored lights flashing and sounds blaring around Aiko were certainly not present in any situation was used to. In fact, ever since she'd arrived at this rather... "clubby" club on her friend Kaya's request and the following insistence, Aiko had been dreading every second of it. The people here weren't exactly what one would call her "type": they were, in fact, quite the opposite. Aiko not only disliked the atmosphere of such a place, you see, but also loathed a vast majority of the music played. This was, after all, the kind of place you'd think of when you picture a late 2010's club: minimal instrumentation in most of the music, a significant amount of terrible trap, and an even larger amount of Chainsmokers remixes.
Aiko had been in America over the past summer and had heard them there: could you not escape such senseless music, even in Japan, a country where the group hadn't even played? No, of course, you couldn't: what a silly question to ask, thinking that you could escape the detritus that Aiko found to have flooded the radio stations of this decade. Thus, that was why she was sitting in a corner on a stool by the bar, as far away from the people who were dancing to the music while doing LSD: as far away as one could possibly be in the space provided, that is. She'd lost sight of Kaya hours ago: the girl was probably off with some guy she'd met, getting a tongue shoved down her throat somewhere in the building.
Aiko shuddered. The thought of her friend, whom she saw as just that, a friend, doing anything more intimate than casually talking to somebody still scarred her, even after having known the girl for years. Kaya wasn't exactly the most conservative of people, especially with her body. Not that that was explicitly a bad thing, but to Aiko, the idea of having physical relations with somebody either terrified her or just generally made her uncomfortable. It wasn't that she didn't have a desire to engage in such things, but she just hadn't met anybody whom she'd consider it with: after all, it had taken her a whole twenty years to acquire a single friend, so what was the likelihood of her meeting anybody that she was both interested in and who was interested in her?
Relatively unlikely. I'd do the math but this music is so intolerable and loud that I don't think I can summon the mental powers needed to do so. I swear to god, if something interesting doesn't happen in the next ten minutes, I'm leaving Kaya here.
It was about then that a song she certainly didn't hate started being played. Of bloody course that had happened after she'd threatened to leave: after all, the universe just couldn't let things go well for her, could it? It was about then that she had a thought that in her mind, bordered on suicidal, seeing as how the reality of the situation had adjusted after she'd thought of... whatever. Of course, she knew the earlier occurrence had been a coincidence, but still, it was worth a shot, right? With this in mind, Aiko got to work.
Well, I suppose that covers one of my issues... but still, that doesn't count as something interesting! Regardless... I'll wait: who knows, maybe a meteor will hit, or god forbid, somebody will try and talk to the wallflower!
With that out of the way, Aiko turned over her shoulder and ordered a cosmo from the almost certainly confused bartender, who was likely wondering why somebody was just sitting down at a bar while in a proper club. Of course, unbeknownst to her, these coincidences would continue throughout the night. Stars would practically align, all because of some questionable (but not objectively bad decisions) that she would make. This, of course, started with the cosmo, and that first sip she took.
