The Ashia family estate came into view finally. Freyleif double checked the paper containing the address and made her way up towards the door before tucking the paper away in her denim jeans pocket. The teen straightens out her blue jacket as she stood before the door and took a few breaths and rolled her shoulders, it had been awhile since she had seen Rick, especially after their little argument way back in the meeting.
Raising up her fist, Freyleif lightly rapped on the door a few times. She had sent a call in advance and wished to speak something ‘important’ to her friend. Besides the reports on Rick’s work with helping with Niji, they really hadn’t spoken face-to-face; and it was time for her to stop being busy with a stack of papers in front of her.
“Well, here goes nothing.” she sighed out and lightly rubbed on her engagement ring and rested her arms back to her sides. In the back of her mind, she was still nervous about what she really wanted to speak to Rick about than the whole ‘catching up’ conversation. After losing her children and having finally squashed Obsession's control over her soul, the teen had mellowed out somewhat after Erek’s confrontation. She didn’t know what to feel anymore and Raph taking her side was quite the surprise in the turn of events. But, her people still felt wary over such a young ruler and it was time to fix that.
The knocks would echo throughout the household, reaching the inner corridor of the next room. It was the afternoon, and the shop was closed for the day. leaving Rick to focus on some of his [rojects at home. Ever since that fateful day of when he absorbed the incubator, Rick was trying to take it away and monitor himself. Rick kept this black shades on from time to time, not wanting to alarm anyone of his sudden eye color. It was very telling for those who stared at it, it was basically the eyes of a beast that was willing to snap any anyone who crossed its path. However, was that really Rick's nature to do so?
"Hm....."
Pushing the lid of the medical chamber back up, Rick would sit on the bed sideways as he focused his reiatsu perception to the outer area of the manor. Much to Rick's surprise, it was Freyleif's energy that he felt, with her spiritual pressure being a lot more lively than it was before. When Frey was having the babies, she felt desperately weak, which made Rick wonder if childbirth came with longterm effects involving spiritual fluctuations inside of the human body. Thankfully, Rick had been wrong, even though the situation associated with the memory stood as one of his newfound regrets.
Rick fought to the best of his ability, he knew that it was a battle he had to win. However, even though he secured the life of the queen, he was unable to reach the children in time. Ever since then, Rick hasn't had a one-on-one conversation with the queen. As a matter of fact, if she came alone, this would have been the second time he managed to hold a conversation with her, but Rick had a feeling that it could possibly be a lot more negative this time around.
"Guess I should let her in...."
One of the great things about the house being constructed of soul synthesized materials was that that the creator itself had much of an advantage with its manipulation. Since the majority of the renovations made was connected to Rick's spiritual energy, it was easy to channel that connection throughout the domain and open toe door for Freyleif.
To Frey, the Soul synthesized steel doors would pull open, along with a beacon of reishi basically calling Frey towards Rick's location. He flared up is spiritual energy quite a bit, with the hopes that Frey could pick it up. After that, all Rick did was wait. Once she arrived, or at least at a distance that allowed her to hear Rick speak, he would offer her a rather friendly greeting.
"Your Highness, I wasn't expecting such a grandstanding visitor. I think one of my tricks involves the manipulation of furniture, only when I'm bored. But still, rolling out a literal red carpet for you wouldn't have been the hardest thing I could do. But anyway, what's up? Must be important if you didn't call, but then again, I wasn't expecting to hear from you at all after what happened back then."
Freyleif waited what felt like an eternity. Her mind was racing with all the negative thoughts of not being there for her people when the Shinigami attacked and put down her friends, thankfully they were still alive, some recovering and others managed to come check on her during her outrage. Her eyes squeezed shut to push away the thoughts and shook her head to shake the feeling off.
The door had finally opened and the teen let out a sigh. She expected to see Rick on the other side but it was left empty. Freyleif blinked a few times before stepping inside and glanced around with utter confusion on her face. It took her awhile to dawn on her with the Quincy ability to manipulate soul synthesis - which she had guessed from how Rick was stellar on working on such materials. She followed the spiritual energy beacon leading the way and gave a chuckle how this seemed to be some sort of fairytale. Well, in her mind it did.
The friendly greeting brought a slight upward tug to her lips before it faded back in a neutral expression. She moved closer to where she could hear Rick and gave greeting him in return.
“It’s nice to see you, too, Rick, “she gave a slight bow of her head and interlaced her shaky fingers together behind her back. “It’s a nice place and I can see the care in both your skill and-” she paused unsurely and stumbled over her words before giggling. Well, it was a humorous entrance for calling her in his own way.
“I’m glad you are doing well,” she continued shifting a bit and looked around a moment before looking back at Rick. “I, well, you know.” a sigh escaped her lips and struggled once more for words. “I could just get to the point but I was worried about you and wanted to chat about the Order’s structure as it's a mess but, uhm, why don’t we have some tea first?” she smiled weakly and looked for a place to sit.
"Well, how else are you supposed to get a hand on things? To be honest with you, the capabilities of making everything through the use of spiritual alchemy has its benefits. I'm starting to be able to control what I create, even if it's far away. As long as I'm in the vicinity, I can adjust, create, or recreate whatever I desire. I mean, it sound's good on paper, but I'm at a point right now that tells me it's much more than just a skill, connecting with the objects that you interact with every day allows these things to become an extension of yourself."
Getting up to go in the kitchen, Rick would then return to the room he was talking to Freyleif in with a pack of tea bags and a pitcher of water. After re-entering, he would then start to utilize his spiritual alchemy to create a table made out of soul synthesized steel, he would also make a small tea set out of soul synthesized glass.
" As you can see, the number of things that you would need in a physical sense start to lessen, materialism becomes a scientific theory of the mind, only because the items you desire can be created by a Quincy at a whim. However....."
Rick paused for a brief moment as he opened the top of the teapot and poured the water inside from the pitcher. " I still can't make water.....but at the same time....."
After the pitcher served it's purposed, Rick dismantled it, ending with the spiritual decomposition of the pitcher made of soul synthesized glass, which sparkled into nothingness. Following that decomposition, the sparkling blue reishi would stop in midair and reverse at a high speed, flowing back into Rick's hand, forming into something akin to a mini stove. That contents would mimic that of a battery powered electric single burner, but the key component was the actual capability of creating the battery itself. It still stayed with him, that day he created his own alkaline battery.
By constructing Soul synthesized magnesium dioxide and Zinc, Rick was able to recreate the anode and cathode once more based on memory alone. Bear in mind that this was done from within the mini electric stove during its creation. In the end, with a single snap, Rick achieved the advanced technique of synthesizing the spiritual counterpart of an electrolyte. It was unbelievable, and maybe it was knocking at the door of limits when it comes to what a Quincy is truly able to do, but it was possible.
"I wanted to do it this way, I wanted to show you this. Do you know what I just did?"
Rick would then place the mini stove on the table and flipped the switch, starting up preheating process. Afterwards, he promptly placed the kettle on the stove for it to boil.
"I recreated a battery Frey, I created a power source. I did all this without my invention too. If I had a name for this method, I'd call it memory manifestation scripting. It was first a theory of having enough experiences with constructs and products to make it from scratch. But as you can see, anything is possible. But this also opens more doors for the Quincy, if we can become more self-sustaining, even if the whole world was against us, at least we can survive. However, that's not why you're here, right?"
“That’s pretty neat, really. I wasn’t taught much in my younger years and had to learn basically from scratch. My mentor pushed me out to Karakura...and well I had to rely on Angeni and the Quincy to get better.” she said giving a light shrug. There were a lot of Quincy that could do impressive things than her at the moment. Having to rely on other Quincy just made her a tad bit annoyed, mostly because she was still young herself. She watched Rick get up and pondered on his comment. There was still much to learn from the Quincy world of things and she was only good at reishi manipulation to get around and Blut.
She then focused on Rick’s creation to make a table out of soul synthesis and smiled faintly. The teacups were cute and he did seem to have high control in making things out of nothing. Her fingers twitched in wanting to on in in the creation process, but she stayed her hand and kept her imagination to herself.
Alchemy was a subject she most definitely understood when Rick went on about creating things from nothing and still couldn’t make the substance of water. She continued to watch Rick decompress the teapot then reform it into a little stove and giggled at the display.
“What did you do?” she asked wide-eyed. Seeing an electric stove be made entirely by spiritual make was something indeed beyond her own miniature figures. As he explained further she nodded and clapped her hands lightly in excitement.
“If you can do everything by memory then that’s pretty awesome, Rick, especially making a battery source from scratch. I think that’s what makes us Quincy special, making things out of alchemy or literally out of nothing without a power. I can say I'm proud to be one myself.” she shook her head and looked back up to Rick. “Right, to the point. This is going to sound sudden.” she paused and looked away towards the wall before taking a deep breath.
The teen stood up and placed her hand inside her jacket to remove a piece of paper and handed it over to Rick. If he looked it over it would have the new structure with a blank roster.
“I wanted to show you this and get your opinion on it. The current Order structure is a mess with too many titles, and I think this could help get a feel back into a military stance,” she said and sat back down before continuing. “That, and I’m stepping down from the crown.” there was some tension in her muscles as she froze up a moment and let out a cough. A frown graced her lips and she couldn’t hold her gaze on Rick much longer before looking down at her lap and fiddling with her fingers then interlaced them.
“I want you to lead Ricky,” she forced a smile and looked back up at him. “You have more passion for the Quincy and you were right at the meeting; I don’t have a level head even after the pregnancy and the loss of my children. I could of went to the Sternritters but none of them felt like they could hold the crown, so now I’m coming to you to pass it.” the smile faded and the twinkle in her eyes had faded, hiding back behind her mask of uncertainty.

For the queen to say that she's proud of being a Quincy, it ignites a fire in the hearts of everyone that's willing to follow you, myself included.
The teapot would then begin to whistle shortly after, with Rick turning off the device and pouring Freyleif's cup first. After pouring his own, Rik would then promptly place the kettle down and disappear back into the kitchen. When he returned, Rick had three lemons in his hand, along with a jar of sugar.
"I would use lemon juice, but I learned that doesn't catch the pure essence of lemon itself. Or better yet, the proper nutrients or benefits from a fruit are easier to grasp from the direct source. Might as well cut and squeeze then, huh?"
With a small chuckle, Rick would craft a small kitchen knife and spoon out of soul synthesized steel, leaving it at the side o the table for Freyleif to use at her leisure.
"Lipton's corner store tea works all the same. It's not earl gray, but it's tea. "
Now that things were a bit settled, Rick paid full attention to what Freyleif was saying in regards to the organization roster. After humming to himself and taking a look at the new design plans, Rick would nod in approval.
"Alright, so far so good. I don't see a problem with this, everything is spelled out in a way that members won't be confused about the hierarchy and responsibilities that comes with each rank. "
Rick continued to evaluate the roster, but he stopped midway when Freyleif stated that she was stepping down. At this point, Rick got rather silent. He understood why the pressure of being a queen must have gotten to Frey, she lost children to the shinigami right after wedlock. It wasn't something that was easy to get over, and Rick felt that she had that right to step away in order to heal from the ordeal. It might take a very long time in order to gather her bearings, but Rick had no need at all to judge her, ridicule her, or even stop her for that matter.
"So, I guess that a search for your successor is well in order huh? Did you have anyone in mind?"
If she wanted Rick to help vet those who wanted to become the leader of the Quincy, Rick would be more than happy to accommodate and offer his assistance to Frey. However, she caught Rick off guard one more with her nomination, wanting Rick to be net in line to lead the Quincy race. At that point, it was as if time stood still for Rick. In a single instance, he was excited and scared. Exited at the fact that such a thing could happen to him in the first place, being chosen as someone worthy enough to be the king. As for the fear, Rick feared not being ready, he also feared failure and the other Quincy being unable to accept him.
"I humbly accept the opportunity to become a beacon of hope for the Quincy race. "
If anything, Rick would become even more rigid in spirit, it meant everything now.
"Are you sure? Are you sure you want it to be me?"
Freyleif gingerly took the teacup and lightly blew into the cup out of habit before taking a sip. A soft, happy, smile spread across her lips as the taste danced on her taste buds. When Rick returned with the lemon and sugar, the teen promptly scooped up some sugar with a spoon and poured it into her cup. She then set the cute spoon back down to pick up a knife, looking at ita moment, then placed it back down to pick up the clean looking lemon. Gripping the sour fruit in her hand, Frey concentrated on the spiritual particles to siphon towards and through her hand and when she unfurled her fingers the lemon was cut up in threes. She placed the pieces on the plate and looked at her juiced hand before tsking, even with cutting them with thin laces of strings it left a mess.
She peered over at Rick as he spoke of the Lipton's tea and nodded with a giggle. “It’s still good.” with that, the blonde created a synthesis paper towel to clean her hand and let it disintegrated back into particles to whence they came.
A smile graced her lips as he approved of the new structure format and she took another sip of her tea before squeezing some lemon into her cup. She was slightly surprised there were no questions asked, perhaps even happy that he approved of such and understood the climb.
“Yes, I think it’s time for you to take up the crown, Ricky.” she forced the smile to remain. The teen stood up and moved to place her free hand on the other blonde’s shoulder and smiled at him. “Just by looking at you, you have the passion to lead. But don’t forget such passion comes with,” she trailed off and looked forward a moment with a frown turning in. “Pain. But I believe you can lead with that vigor and spark in your soul.” she looked back down at Rick and squeezed his shoulder a bit in a gentle fashion before going to sit back down.
A slight shiver crawled up her spine as she relinquished some sort of burden from her being. It would be hard letting go of the power and greed to lead, but deep down she knew Raph and many of her friends were right; they would still follow yet at the same time they noticed she was clinging something to the past.
“I know it was sudden, and honestly I was going to draw it out,” Freyleif said with a chuckle and brushed the bangs away from her face as a pet peeve before taking a sip of her tea then lowered her cup. “I wanted to make sure my friends and kin were doing okay before I dropped that idea on you. But, you’re still staying strong as ever and I love that about ya.” she gave a cheeky thumbs up with a goofy smile.
“So, my King, is there anything you wish to discuss and are you okay with the changes of the Order?” she quizzically asked as her emeralds remained locked into his.
"Passion to lead, that is something I never really thought about in a very long time. As you know, we were both apart of vigilance. I was apart of team two as a leader, with my good friend Eaon being under me. Even though two years seems like a long time to go by without seeing a person, I still felt responsible for him. A while back, I got a distress call from him, turns out his battered and bruised body was caused by Adimus. I didn't know what to think, but the first thing I said to myself was "how could I let this happen?" Regardless of the fact that the team was no longer, I still came, and I still did everything in my power to save his life. At that point, even if it was Adimus, the Adimus I knew wouldn't of left Eaon on the floor with the potential to bleed out. I wanted to cry, this is how much power can change a person, to abandon a former comrade in arms? I wonder if being king will change me as well?"
Rick smiled as she squeezed his shoulder.
"You're a good kid, I hope that with this change, I could make you guys proud, as well as lead the Quincy to a more hopeful future. Not as war seeking tyrant, but to be more prepared for it, to be more prepared to protect ourselves when we need to. It's going to take a long time, these past few months has done a number on the morale, even for the loyalists that still exists to follow your lead. I wouldn't want the Quincy to discard their pride, but to be more mindful of the situation that we find ourselves in. The only thing we can do is build power and wait, maybe make peace with the spiritualist network. I was a bit hotheaded before, but killing other humans isn't something that anyone should look forward to while being a Quincy, or maybe I should speak for myself. That's not why I have this power. "
Looking at the paper, Rick would then sigh and shake his head.
"No, it looks like all of the hard work was done for me, which makes me sad that such a great young mind is entering retirement before me. I mean, twenty-six isn't that old, but sometimes these crazy events take off a few years and make you seem and feel older than you really are. You ever get that feeling sometimes?"
Looking at the tea, Rick would take a small sip of it and place back on the table.
"Freyleif, from the time that you felt my reiatsu and now. I mean, really focused on it, does anything seem different to you?"
Rick still had his shades on, which one would think it would be a little weird to have them on in the house. However, there was a reason for this. He didn't want to show her his eyes, it was still a bit sensitive and took some time getting used to.
The Vigilance. This was something that came up before with Raph. She wondered why all the big leaders like Adi suddenly vanished - hen she remembered her encounter with the fabled man and meeting Rick at the Tower that Eaon had called them from. The teen gave a sigh at the mention and memories of those days and shook her head.
“It seems people still have some sentimental value over the Vigilance. O’ how the mighty have fallen,” she said with a slight grin. “Who knows, Ricky, you have the passion burning in your soul, and I know you will do great things. Have a vision at the forefront and announce your goals to push the Quincy forward.”
She rose a brow when he spoke of not being a war tyrant and then chuckled before speaking, “Peace leads to stagnation, just remember that. We’re constantly at war no matter how much we do. If the Quincy can’t be proud at what they do then the Shinigami will just neuter us, and by that, force us to make ‘purifying’ items. You do know that it will just send them more an army and overflow the balance?” a frown then began to form and her eyebrows creased in thoughtfulness. Erasmus’ words still dug into her head on their fateful meeting. Her left hand twitched and she quickly folded her arms to hide her shaking, as much as that didn’t really help. The past was the past, and she doubted she’d ever forgive the Shinigami.
“I’m glad this structure is of satisfactory,” she beamed. “Sometimes I feel pretty old like I was forced into big boots. Well, no, not forced really. More than that I took a responsibility and let my passion burn out when people just squabbled because they didn't want to be united. Whatever. Being ripped to shred by a dragon hollow and an ape-like one constantly stalking certainly takes the lifeforce out of you.” the teen sighed out and stopped herself from ranting further.
She looked back at him, truly focusing on his energy, and did notice something off; other than his shades, she saw the gleam in his soul shine brighter mixed with something foul: hollow reiatsu, supposedly the bait.
“If those shades are anything that feels off, then yes - your reiatsu does feel different,” she said taking a sip of her tea. “Why are you hiding your eyes? Did they change color enough to freak someone out?”
"To be honest with you, the most I would do is reinforce the values that we already contain, along with well-needed restraint. With the way things are right now, it's going to take a lot of patience in order for all of this to blow over, the disagreements that we had with the karakura spiritualist network. We pulled the short stick in the sense of the person whose leading it, Jian is too strong for us to do anything about him for the time being. The continuation of our culture, proceeding in technology and discovering new holy artifacts that we can use for current purposes, and defending ourselves against any hollow threat that threatens humanity. If we at least put on the persona of being a reaction based unit, not even someone like me will stand for the shinigami attacking us if the hollows attacked us first. But pretty soon, that won't be enough. In secret, we should prepare for things to happen, even if they never do. "
Rick's mind was going through a few scenarios. He wanted things to go well, not just for himself, but for every member that was apart of the Quincy organization. Rick knew that something like that wouldn't be easy, he knew that he couldn't please everyone that way.
"I never said for us to go into the purification game, it's something that we weren't meant to do. As much as the Shinigami might hate to admit it, thinning the herd is also apart of the precious balance that they love to go on and on about. I can imagine there being more of them at a time, abled spiritual bodies that get sent out on a basis of a law that includes blatant racism against a race of bow-wielding humans. How to make sure that their way is considered the "right" way? Consider the death of the person who causes the death of a hollow, regardless of what the hollow did. Isn't that rich Freyleif? Still thinking about the audacity of the shinigami pulling some shit like this makes my blood boil. "
Shaking his head, Rick would take another sip of his tea and chuckle to himself.
"You know, I'm a pretty big guy. If someone were to walk in on us right now, it'll look like I'm having tea with my stepdaughter or something along the lines. Hahaha....."
With Freyleif guessing the reason why Rick had his black shades, he would almost choke on the tea that he was drinking a little.
Tipping his shades a little so Freyleif could get a peak, he would then push his shades back up after a few seconds.
"Remember that incubator that you learned about after scrying my memories, the one that put me in a coma for two years. I ended up running into it again, but only this time, it was me that ended up absorbing the creature. I wouldn't say that I fucked up or anything, but it's not every day you hear something like this."
Freyleif sipped her tea as she listened to Rick. The Quincy could do with a bit of technology advancement but she knew her own clan would be stuck in their traditions. She shook her head and continued to listen.
“I think we should continue to push on with our survival,” she simply shrugged and looked at her empty cup before setting it down on the makeshift table. “Who cares what the Shinigami say, there’s no truth to the balance so why should we let our teeth get dull? But moving on.” the teen sighed and listened on.
Emerald eyes just stared at the other blonde as he joked about a stepdaughter but didn’t comment, she was more interested in what he was hiding now. She only got a quick peek at his eyes and frowned when he explained.
Her left hand twitched when he mentioned absorbing a hollow, it was something she was unable to wrap her head around. It seemed most Quincy clans could resist the Hollow taint in their system.
“That’s odd, but you don’t seem to be suffering any ill effects or whatever,” Freyleif said with a frown. Her thoughts swam once again wondering if her Blut could do anything to help him but it was probably just dangerous so she tossed that idea out. “What are you going to do now?”
"Ill effects? Like any more besides the eye thing? Trust, me, it was a lot worse, but I managed to pull it back somehow. It could have been worse, or better yet, having the eyes of a beast isn't the same as having the heart of one. However, I guess, I'm one of many situations where we can conquer that darkness in our hearts if it was ever to invade us as a whole. "
Pushing his glasses back even further, Rick would use his spiritual alchemy to adjust the chairs, making them a little bigger and more comfortable. Rick did it mostly or his own reason, he wanted to lay back a bit. However, being the good host that he was, Rick took the liberty of fixing up Frey's chair as well.
"They are still made of Reishi, Shinigami, and Hollows. That means, to us as Quincy, they should theoretically be the easiest to beat, the easiest to manipulate, dominate. At the very core, besides all the blood and even personality, as spiritual beings, our powers set us up to be the apex predator. I don't sympathize, for a long time, I thought it was just humans that were at a disadvantage, but conquering that hollow and absorbing it, that changed things for me. "
Looking to Frey, Rick would smile.
"The only thing that I can do is live on for the sake of the Quincy race, as well as humanity as a whole, No matter what happens, I'll always act on their behalf in good faith. I mean, is that enough for you to see that I'm not far gone?"
Freyleif placed her right hand over her other to stay the shaking and fidgeted about her seat. The idea of absorbing a Hollow was, odd.
“I suppose, it is strange,” she said with a light shrug. “I don’t think I’ll ever conquer such darkness, but I’m rambling on shit I don't understand from others.” as the chairs adjusted she smiled and got comfortable.
“I think we’re capable of a lot of things in dominating. I look forward to seeing what you can do with such, uh, powers even though I’m suspicious,” she rubbed the back of her head and folded her arms next. "Maybe it's because I'm afraid of becoming a monster myself and hide behind masks." a frown formed and she shook her head, moving on.
The teen gave a good, long, stare at Rick before letting out a sigh. Many Quincy had said the same thing in doing what’s best for the Quincy and humanity yet had pride in caring about their own clans. Hopefully, with this new structure things would work out and clans could play the political game.
“That’s the only thing we can do, really. To live on and protect humanity,” she forced a smile and slowly stood up. “No, I don’t think you’re gone. Regardless, I think I’m done here unless you have any more to discuss?” she eyed him a moment, feeling out his energy, and interlacing her hands behind her back. Emeralds wandered around the room taking in the sight of the Estate, half wishing she had a nice place to manipulate the structures upon her whim. Her fingers twitched and her right hand moved up to her left wrist to hold as if trying to stay her excitement.
"You already conquered a different kind of darkness. It'll be something I'll never understand as a man, something you can only acquire as young woman of your stature, and a mother. That darkness of losing those more precious to you than life itself giving birth and creating life, just for the shinigami to take that from you. That is something I will never understand, or pretend in your face to try to understand, for the rest of my life. Freyleif, functioning properly after an event like that occurring is the mastery of that darkness. "
It was true, Rick could never understand how that felt. He was also that Freyleif believed in his humanity, it was something that was sacred to Rick, remaining who he was at all times.
"Well, I was given the crown, but the skills and simplicity of garnering spiritual energy, it's lacking. That day I saw you in Berlin, when you made that marionette, it was a telling aspect of how we can compare our skills. "
Closing his eyes, Rick would bring out his hands and move them around, with his body glowing with a tinted blue. Grey could tell that Rick was up to something, but she wouldn't figure it out until the house started to move from the inside. I wasn't just the furniture, but the actual rooms started to shift, including the room that Freyleif and Rick were in.
"Just bringing us a little closer to the bathroom, you don't mind, right? T's quite a walk, regardless of whether you really had to go. "
It was magical, the way that Rick manipulated his house almost made it seem surreal. It was a trick-house with the majority of key components being replaced by synthesized constructs. When this shifting of the rooms stopped, Rick opened his eyes and sighed.
"Even though I can do this, I still haven't reached it, the area beyond mastery of one's own Reishi. Strength is the icing on the cake when it comes to ruling, being strong is mostly for one's own self-satisfaction. But by the mere look of me, I would want the Quincy, or even regular people, to feel calm and relaxed. Without them even realizing it themselves, I want the idea to settle in the minds of others of my strength, and this is a strength that is capable of leading and protecting. Why should they follow me if I can't protect them? Yes, my mind has came up with things like healing chambers, and spirit capturing devices, But my real strength and how I use it? I need to get better than this."
Looking at Frey, Rick would smile weakly.
"Retirement sounds nice, but I was hoping that you could help me for a little while longer. Think you can give the king of the Quincy a few lessons?"
Freyleif sucked in a breath as the thought of her children came up. To keep functioning like she had been trucking through: giving birth then losing them right after left a scar deeper in her soul, all she had now were many masks to wear. Her eyes wandered away once more, looking for anything else to distract her mind and let out a exhale before sniffling some.
“I have a big imagination when it comes to that,” she moved onto the next subject, not yet ready to face her demons and stuffed them into the closet. “The only reason I’ve reached this height was that I pushed myself. It wasn’t an easy path and trying to force the shortcuts and my own mental block were the bigger obstacles.”
The teen blinked when she started noticing the room was shifting about. Truly their skills were different in aspect with her’s being more a childish fantasy. Freyleif gave a chuckle and waved her hand.”Well, that’s one lazy way.” she jested. As the rooms changed, Freyleif closed her eyes and gathered spiritual particles to her left outstretch hand. The energy molded together as more and more gathered to form a gumball sized ball and she squished, rolled, and kneaded it in her hands like putty.
“Y’know, I thought strength was everything,” she said reopening her eyes to look at Rick. “I don’t know if you have met Aitrus, but he had proved me wrong and made me feel weak by latching a collar around my neck. It was humiliating and I think I understood what he meant when the Quincy are prideful, power hungry, pricks who only care for their own gain. Aitrus wouldn’t let me make decisions because how he saw me shaking in fear when I fled to Iceland back when Obsession was dealt with.” her hand squeezed tightly over the putty-like orb and it oozed between her fingers as her reiatsu flared around her form before calming down.
Maybe, just maybe he could be what Weylin hadn't or her, but he would need time to learn and to get there just like how Aitrus tried to help her.
“Look, not to sound bitchy or annoyed, but the Quincy don’t care what you have and want nothing to do with you and just want the crown for themselves or bring honor to their family.” she sighed. There was no reason to get angry when she didn’t even have an ounce of care for the crown or see the Quincy as her own anymore.
Freyleif chuckled when Rick asked for help, now that was something she wasn’t expecting from the now King of the Quincy. “Yeah, I can help you master reishi manipulation.” she opened her hand and the orb twisted, swirled, then stretched out into a butterfly. It fluttered its sparkling blue wings and began to fly towards Rick and circled around him a few times before hovering above them.
“Over the years I’ve learned to start with manipulating the reishi into smaller beings,” she smiled and looked up at the butterfly as it then landed on her palm. “It’s like exercising your muscle memory only by manipulating reishi, get what I mean? I’m sure you’ve also heard about using a butterfly or a ballerina to practice with, right? Give it a try. It’s much more difficult than you think and it will help with your powers, too.” she hoped he understood the more movements he made with his own creation, the more complex and hard it would be to control.
"Well, these blocks are here for a reason, it's supposed to protect us from basically going insane. I mean, that's why human beings have our vices, right? If it's not sex, it's alcohol or even drugs. It's not a statement of our imperfections of using these things, simply getting through the day knowing that there are spiritual beings that want to kill you, all while feeling that you may have to carry the burden of who you truly are alone. You know you don't have to do that. I fell in love once maybe, haven't dated since my last years in high school, I always felt a little too busy for it. Knowing that someone loves you, cares about you, and is waiting for you to come home if you ever went out, those simple things are what could bring you out of the darkness. You have been through a lot, and irresponsibility, I haven't even talked to your partner about what occurred. Things like these involving the children could lead to divorce, but I really do hope that none of you blame each other."
Listening to what Frey had to say about her own lessons she learned with a run in by the man named Aitrus, Rick didn't have much to say. He didn't believe that Quincy only cared about their own growth or promotion, he knew in his heart that the Quincy were regular people who took it upon themselves to fight against the hollow menace. That's what it was about to Rick, ordinary people taking a stand when they couldn't wait to be saved. Judging everything he was from that principle alone showed that the Quincy was built on more than just hate.
"The crown is a representation of the will of the people. As the servant of the people, you do your duty to make sure that the Quincy has a future in all of this mess. Once the call to lead the race has been answered in such a way, even after it's all over, you'll never feel the same again. No Quincy in this world should feel like they should be ashamed of their pride, the pride of a Quincy is not a weakness. I'm not so rigid in my thinking, I can see how it could be narrowed down to how self-centered we can become. However, I still have hope for the future that things will change. "
Even more good news, Freyleif agreed to teach Rick a little bit in the way that she utilizes her Reishi. In all honesty, the style of animating her reishi was something that Rick hasn't really thought about. Synthesizing reishi into their soul synthesized counterparts was more his thing, but looking back at her puppetry trick, true manipulation could also add to the fact that she brought a motion to what she created. However, was it her will that allowed the creation to move in such a way? Or did the creation have a will of its own?
"Hmmm..."
Rick decided to think things through as he started to formulate his reishi into taking the form of something that was alive or used to be alive. At the very least, the most of what he thought of was a cricket. The cricket itself was a chrome color, but Rick got the form of the creature perfectly, However, it didn't move.
"There is a reason why I chose this sort of creature, just roll with it for the time being. "
Moving his finger, he made the creature jump up and down, one of the capabilities of a real cricket. However, one of the things that he didn't know how to do was make the creation produce the same kind of sound that crickets do. At the same time, he was unable to make the creature move on its own without much of the thought process involved. "I'm good, but I'm not that good...... this might take a while. However, I think this hint is enough of a forward push in the right direction of an answer of my own. The animation of the constructs that I created, I simply don't have that kind of information or have been sitting in front of a national geographic television program for long. However, I have an idea."
A few days with training with Frey has passed, and there were still some key elements that Rick didn't understand fully as of yet. He appreciated the ex-queens patience with him, but it didn't change the fact that Rick was rather impatient with himself.
"Great..."
Taking a break for the night after seeing Frey off with a great appreciation of her time, the nightly stroll for hollow hunting was interrupted by the sound of a cricket. Located deep within the field of greenery, Rick felt out the scarce spiritual energy that remained in the raw lifeforce of the creature, constructing a soul synthesized elastic net in order to ensnare the creature and retract it to his hand with a silver string, It struggled, but it didn't die.
"Sorry little guy..."
Taking it back home, Rick would sit down and think about what he wanted to do with the cricket that he captured. It was currently in a sol synthesized glass jaw, with no real hope of escape. Some would find it odd that Rick did this, but Rick was prepared to try something risky, something that might even prove forbidden.
"Alright... I've done this before... I can do it again.."
Holding the glass jar in his hand Rick started the decomposing process. Reversing a soul synthesized construct and returning it to the raw reishi that he used in the first place was the easy part. However, Rick was attempting to convert a Kishi originated being into Reishi while it was still alive. It was small enough, so Rick thought it would be ok, but converting living things that were made of Kishi into Reishi had a lot more challenges that Rick was man enough to admit. The molecular biostructure ruptured from within the creature, causing it to explode in the middle of the conversion and burn Rick's hand a bit.
"Oww! What the?!"
He jerked away, nothing like this has ever happened before. However, this didn't discourage Rick, it only made him want to try again.
A few more days of capturing crickets and trying to convert them, each and every time, Rick got used to how the molecular biostructure of living being made of Kishi reacted to the conversion process, as well as small pieces of information that each close conversion contained. With every attempt, the construct started to become sharper, more detailed.
With some luck and persistence, Rick finally succeeded in converting one cricket from it's Kishi from into Reishi, absorbing the spiritual energy and feeding it into his being. By absorbing it this way, and continuing to absorb it this way, it was possible for Rick to create a perfect imitation.
"A Spiritual imitation that transcends death, look at me, am I trying to play god now?"
Rick couldn't help but feel disgusted with himself. He strived to achieve more, he wanted to evolve his skills in a way to better serve the Quincy. But was this truly the only way?
"It's not, but a way that I chose."
Focusing once more, Rick constructed a soul synthesized cricket. This time, instead of being a chrome color, it was a shiny dark green instead. With the endless amounts of Reishi that Rick absorbed from the beings before it, its creation alone came with its mannerisms, it's movements, the phantom presence of being alive. It could easily fool anyone, anyone but Rick.
Was this something to celebrate? The Kishi conversion of something that was actually alive, was this something truly worth celebrating? Rick was sure that this wasn't what Freyleif intended, no, this was something much greater. He mastered it, first, it was the Kishi conversion of inanimate objects, and he just converted something that was alive. With the strange combination of pride and hatred of what he just did, Rick continued to practice this "Phantom Imitation" technique.
"All for the sake of being a weapon of good, once again, I chipped off another piece of my soul. "
