It all started with the vigilance assignment that involved getting back the humans that were taken during the incursion. It was a delicate time that one had to be wary and careful, due to the fact that the individuals that were kidnapped were noncombatant citizens. As one of the team leaders for Vigilance, Rick decided to play the entire mission by using himself as bait. Utilizing the hollow bait inside of his body, which had a chain reaction to the hollow bait cubes that were crushed in Rick's vicinity, he became a walking beacon in the hollow breed's own territory. However, he used this to divert the hollow forces away from Las Noches, with Rick and his team picking off the enemy a dozen at a time. However, this attracted an enemy that was far greater than Rick had anticipated, an ancient evil that was directly connected to Rick and his bloodline.
The Incubator had returned, no one knew how or why, but it came back for the purpose reabsorbing what it lost. At the same time, it wanted revenge on the Quincy that experimented on it, Rick's existence served both purposes. He wasn't Hi Randi Ashia, but an ancestor was enough, along with the stubborn genes of the hollow existing as both a boon and a curse to the rest of the offspring that Ashia had. Rick was blindsided, ravenously pounced upon by the hollow breed. It then started to suck the lifeforce right out of Rick, taking away his energy, and quite possibly, his life. However, the hollow bait was still in effect, and other angry hollows served their purpose as a distraction to the Incubator. This allowed Rick to be extracted by his team, but the encounter with the incubator has left Rick in a coma for two years.
After awakening, it was surprising for Rick to know that he's been asleep this entire time, as well as the fact that the Vigilance disbanded after Adimus's accession. His memory was blurry, which made it a bit hard to cope. With no one to contact at the tower, as well as being unable to reach his friends, the only lead that Rick had was the organization that paid his medical expenses, the Quincy. Flying over to the Quincy castle in Berlin in order to see Weylin, Rick was actually met with a different kind of royalty. A new generation has seemingly taken over the Quincy race, bringing in a new queen. Freylif was happy to answer any and all questions, with the showing of Rick's enthusiasm bringing him to her good side. In addition to that, Freyleif's special ability of scouring Rick's memories through Reiatsu perception seemingly jogged quite a bit of what Rick forgot about. When this happened, along with Freyleif painting a learner picture by mentioning his ancestor, it was at that point that Rick realized that he may have bitten off more than he could chew.
Either way, there was nothing he could do about it, for the time being, Rick was left to his own devices, and speaking of devices, Rick's old vigilance communicator activated a few days after meeting the new Queen. It was actually a small reunion of some sort, with Eaon being the one that made the call at the old tower. Believe it or not, Freyleif had joined the Vigilance organization at some point to, so for Rick, the run in consisted of former friends and leaders. The exchange with Eaon made it apparent to Rick that Adimus changed, but it was still unclear if the change was any good. Resolving himself to follow the queen, Rick got accustomed to his new job as a knight of the Quincy.
Being officially apart of the order, Rick took it upon himself to do what he did best, which was eradicating the hollow race. For a while, things were pretty simple, but the uprising of Shinigami interference was even more than usual. The first interference was from Junko Gekido, who packed quite a punch with her guardian armor. She caused Rick to retreat, but it didn't completely discourage him. After continuing, as usual, and treating the shinigami interaction as a one-off, it was another run-in with the shinigami that changed things for Rick. Unfortunately for the Shotgun Quincy himself, Shinsei Madarame came into the picture during one of Rick's hunting moments. It was a hard fought battle, but the use of holy artifact utilities helped Rick outsmart the shinigami, which brought him in a position to ask the shinigami to yield.
Shinsei refused, but before an actual conclusion could be met, Kirito came to save the day, as well as revealing that there was a kill order on any Quincy that was caught destroying hollows. This forced Rick to be a little more low key about his ventures, narrowing down his targets to special hollow breeds with complex natures. The best example of this was when Rick tracked down an octopus hollow breed, who was (in Rick's opinion) originally a serial killer that used "science" as an excuse to experiment on people. With the incursion replaying in Rick's head like a Vietnam flashback, he quickly tracked down the hollow breed to its location. The fight was brief, with Rick managing to trade a blow with the creature that would eat away at its flesh before it captured him.
However, little did Rick know, the hollow being shared a similar trait to the incubator that attacked him all those years ago, it had the ability to drain the spiritual energy from its victim. The draining motion was all too familiar to Rick, and he felt like he was losing himself again. However, he was ready this time, pulling back and imagining his spiritual being as an immovable weight as he continued the spiritual tug of war for his life. Luckily, Rick held on just enough for the hollow to succumb to its injuries and retreat, with the weakened Quincy using this time to search for survivors before fainting.
With what happened, Rick decided to take a break and focus on the many things took place in the sense of molding him into the kind of Quincy that he wanted to be. One of those things was gaining an apprentice by the name of Calendrea, which awoken Rick's love for mentoring and teaching when he really felt like it. Admittedly, Rick could be quite flippant about things, but he always bounces back to do what's best for the human race. However, one particular conversation changed things, the time when Calendrea used her reiatsu perception to sense Rick's active reiatsu. Through that, she saw it, the image of Hi Randi Ashia.
With her mentioning it, Rick was reminded of his fate and responsibility as an Ashia clan member. He was also reminded of the fact that he never had a real choice, that being born with the hollow bait gene was never a real choice. However, there was one that Calendrea mentioned that shook Rick's core.
She called it "evil".
At first, Rick's feelings were immensely hurt when his precious student sensed wickedness in the shade of his ancestor. However, he understood, he understood how a man can damn themselves and an entire family for the sake of acting on their beliefs. He even wondered if he would have made the same decision that Hi Randi did, eventually saying that he would. If anything, Rick had the resolved to push through.
But in some situations, a resolve wasn't enough.
With the birth of the twins, came an attack from the Shinigami. It was a hard-fought battle, and plenty of his comrades Risked their lives to protect the queen and her children. He's seen good men push past their limits to give Genki everything he had, but it was all for naught. This was a time that Rick was simply outclassed, this was a person he failed to beat. Even though Rick managed to get the queen out of the vicinity, the babies ended up being the ones to suffer.
He felt sick, sad, and depressed at the fact that he failed to save the kids. However, he couldn't desire revenge, with the only reason being that they weren't strong enough. Nevertheless, with such a kill order existing, with the shinigami being bold enough to end the lives of offspring after childbirth, the mere audacity of the shinigami race acting in such a way broke something from within. At that point, Rick wasn't sure if it was his rage, or insanity.
Banking on the fact that Rick may have lost his mind, he decided to go on a reconnaissance mission alone that involved the distribution of drugs that originated from Hueco Mundo. Following the truck back and destroying the wares, Rick was caught by the Yakuza Hollow leader, Grisha, and engaged in what was one of the harder battles that Rick ever had in enemy territory. With the use of the hollow bait smell, Rick managed to put the hollow town into a frenzy, which in time, became an invaluable distraction for his escape.
However, Rick did receive some injuries with his battle, as well as the added exposure to the hollow bait adding an imbalance to his bodily functions. In addition to that, it also caught the attention of an age-old foe when Rick managed to seek sanctuary inside of the forest of menos. The incubator was there and waiting, with a battle that nearly tore Rick limb from limb. Somehow, Rick managed to injure the hollow enough to subdue it, finally leaving him with a choice in regards to his own ancestry.
Rick could have left the incubator to die in the flames, or absorb it and take its power for his own. In an act of desperation for power, Rick made the same choice that Hi Randi made all those years ago, he damned himself for the future of humanity. Even after the incubator was absorbed and the gene involved inside of Rick's body, it still seemed as if the incubator wanted Rick to submit to its influence, with the darkened tendril-like growth beginning to cover his body.
However, the Zealot Quincy refused to yield, and forcefully regressed the monstrous changed through his own willpower. He made a choice of doing all that he could in order to be a stronger asset for the Quincy.
The choice was to become a monster, but he didn't have to live like one.

Second Release Description: Bait and switch is the new ability that was gained by absorbing the incubator hollow. By baiting his presence in two areas or more, Rick misguides his opponents and effortlessly switches his positioning in battle.
Second Release Effect: Bait and switch is a skill check vs the opposing opponents reiatsu perception for them to "see through" the switch, with the limitation of only being able to use this power three times per thread. At advantaged or higher, it's a free dodge that can also be used to change Rick's range. At equivalent, it's calculated as an equivalent defender. If Rick fails the check, the switch will fail.
