Karakura Town was undoubtedly a very weird place. He always enjoyed it, especially with the wacky assortment of people that he tended to meet. Hell he’d even met Freylief here and look how that had turned out!
Still there were always problems with the place, the most prominent being that there was a nearly constant threat of hollow attack. Recent events had shown them growing more and more bold, with local quincy clans and patrols barely able to hold the line at some points. Though if and when, Jian ever sensed them… Well said hollow, and said quincy, would have wished that they had never been born.
He wondered what had happened to Jian that night… He hadn’t seen the young man in a long time and all of his attempts at communication either failed, or simply went ignored. Not even several fights in the Town, and this was supposedly where Jian had declared an all safe rule. They weren’t allowed to fight here or risk pain of death.
Raphael stared out into the street and began to ponder on if he’d abandoned even the KSN, based on the fact that one of their retinue had been pestering Janus and threatening to blow up her inn that evening. If he was an agent…he began to wonder just how deep the roots of the Network had spread…just how perverted was their message now?
It didn’t matter, he concluded shaking his head. The fact of the matter was that he was now more than likely to bump heads with them as well now, at some point. He was pretty sure that he’d run afoul of every group, except for the quincy but he was more indebted to them, at some point in his short life on Earth. Had fate dealt him a cruel hand? Or had he been lucky with every step?
The ruins of old Karakura lingered in front of him, a ghost and stain on the town’s former prestige… Yet still it had its merits, and as he turned down the street into the ruins he couldn’t help but reminisce. Here was where he’d run into Sekai the second time, when her soul had become a beacon, instead of just a small flame. This city was also where he’d first met Freylief, it was where he’d met Alexandria again, and where she’d almost cut off his arm… So many memories, phantasms of the past that danced at the corners of his eyes.
But he couldn’t shake the feeling that he was being watched and he felt out the air around him. As the sensation danced upon his senses his skin prickled, and his hairs stood on end… It couldn’t be, could it? Was it the hollow that had said it would return for him? He walked into the center of a clearing and finally stopped.
“You can come out,” he said in a slightly perturbed voice. “If it’s really you then just show yourself. I’m not in the mood for cat and mouse today.”
