AOZORA, REI
SHINIGAMI
Seated, First Division
Personnel File
Name: Rei Aozora (零 青空); Zero/Nothing and Blue Sky. Combined it can be viewed as "empty sky"
Age / Apparent Age: 122 / Early Twenties
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Birthday: 12/25/ 1895
Language Fluency: Japanese, familiar with most major languages
Ethnicity: English/Japanese
Positive Traits: Sociable, Deferntial, Witty, Industrious, Persistent
Negative Traits: Duplicitous, Arrogant, Bloodthirsty, Dogmatic, Cruel
Loyalties: Rei's loyalties lie entirely to her own twisted prception of justice and those with power over her life.
Physical Specifications
Height and Weight: 180cm & 63 kg
Hair and Eyes: Navy blue for both, though her eyes seem a shade or two lighter
General Appearance: Tall and refined, Rei is a beauty in her own rights, even if not traditionally speaking. She's equipped with a moderately curvy body and a lush, full set of hair that cascades down her body like thick waves of water crashing against the sea shore. But not all of her is as dainty as expected. A set of broad, straight shoulders lends her to look more well built when her robes come off. A sharpness to biceps and shins also stand out to remind everyone that she is just as much as a warrior as any other Shinigami.
She often regards people with a cool, confident smile that fades into an almost condescending smile at times. As if she's constantly thinking "Oh, how cute. They think they deserve my attention." But equipped with a silver tongue and surprisingly witty humor, it's easy to look past weird quirks like that. To that extent, she's fairly easy to get along with and can be seen carrying conversations and leaving friends and strangers alike laughing and smiling by the time she's done with them.
Spiritual Appearance: True to her nature, her spiritual presence is something dark and consuming. Thick, like a blanket submerged in water, it hangs from her shoulders and splatters onto the ground in thick, curdled blobs of red gunk and ooze. The aura, if it could even be called that, stays tightly to her form and shies away from others, unlike most spiritual beings who fight against one another for dominance.
Psychological Profile
Personality: Rei is a hardworking, passionate woman who strives for nothing but excellence in every aspect of her life. What she begins, she finishes. What she fails, she revisits. To her, to leave a stone upturned is nothing but pure laziness and something to be ashamed of. For this reason, she is often seen as consistent and reliable in terms of her work life and hobbies. While not everything she has done is perfect and her life is riddled with failures, she's never once failed to bounce back and right anything she seems as a blemish on her record.
However, she strikes a healthy balance of work and play and finds herself easily surrounded by friends and close partners. She's a joy to work with and the typical "Mary Sue next door" in the eyes of her peers. While not necessarily powerful or skilled in any one regard when it comes to being a Shinigami, she stands out as someone with potential in something more administrative or something requiring leadership skills. Needless to say, she's not fond of patrols, combat, or any of the more unsightly parts of being a Shinigami.
Though, it might not be entirely obvious just why she so adamantly avoids the battle field or anywhere she might find conflict. Not so very deep down, she's a rather demonic person with cruel motives and thoughts. A dark vigilante that mercilessly strikes down traitors, murders, and abandoners with an unhealthy joy and passion. She lives to see some "evil-doer" at the end of her blade. This bloodthirsty side of her is barred back only by a thin, chain link fence. As such, to put herself in positions where people might see her lose herself is simply out of the question.
Goals & Achievements: As expected, Rei's life is one success after another -- almost to the point of being downright boring. She excelled as one of the top students in the Academy, was instantly recruited into the Second where she found a wealth of opportunities to grow her criminal hunting talents, and then was accepted to the First as a Seated Officer.
In terms of the future, Rei is a simple woman with a simple goal: to find her faceless, nameless father and bath in his blood.
Zanpakutō File
Zanpakutō Spirit: Sei (静) is a rather lush woman by all stretches of the definition. Her body is so thoroughly lushous that it almost can come off as comical in some regards; A woman able to balance with breasts as large as hers is a feat fit for the circus. Not that this seems to impair her in any regard. In fact, Sei is a rather agile woman who's balance can never be shaken. This is, obviously, a reference to the cat-like ears and tail she wears so proudly.
From head to toe, Sei has so many striking and outstanding features it's almost moot to list them all. Her hair is a wild, pink mess that curls and flicks around her frame with no sense of purpose or control. Her eyes, low and seductive, are a striking yellow, just a few shades lighter than that of a Hollow's. The fur adorning her ears and tail is a thick, fluffy mat of tan and brown shades that compliments the rest of her color scheme nicely. She wears bold and bright blues and whites, accented with black trim and gold lines here and there. All of her attire is tied up in an elegant kimono fit for a queen.
Of course, all of that is simply what she looks like. But, for Sei, that's all there is to her. Perhaps a worthless mentor, Sei cannot speak at all. Whether out of physical inability or sheer will, she refuses to utter a single word when in her natural state. To that extreme, she refuses to even communicate with body language or anything else that can give hints to her thoughts. Instead, she simply watches with a cool, distant stare.
Only when she is released does her personality show.
Inner World: A massive, unending maze of impossibly tall, black walls make up Rei's inner world. Twists and turns in the maze seemingly lead to nowhere and every time she finds herself in there, she appears in a new spot. The floors, black by slightly reflective, make a soft tinging noise as one walks, the sharp sound bouncing off the thick walls endlessly.
Very rarely does Sei appear near Rei. In fact, it's almost always a trek just to find the spirit hidden within the maze and, even when Rei does find her, very little comes of it. Needless to say, Rei very rarely visits her inner world and prefers to just wait until she releases to make any sort of contact with the other half of her soul.
Power: Utae, Sei! (Sing, Sei!) 歌え 静
Sei's power is a simple one: she steals the voice of a single target. By silencing a target, she regains her own voice, allowing her to talk and act however she likes. In this released state, Sei is a wild, hungry creature foaming at the mouth for her next victim. Ruthless and merciless, she exceeds even Rei's dark nature ten fold, further influencing Rei's brutal nature when in Shikai.
Zanpakutō: Like most Shinigami, rei received her Zapakutō from the academy and chose it from an array of various weapon styles and sizes. For her, she chose the smaller, more personal Tantō. The undecorated dagger sits calmly at her side in a plain, black sheath and has no distinct features. It's of average size (roughly 20cm) and has no blemishes or distinguishing features on the blade itself.
When released, the Tantō splits and forms into six Kunai that rest comfortably between Rei's fingers. These Kunai can be thrown or used as melee weapons. Rei very rarely throws or loses her weapon, so she favors using them as claws of sorts to rip and tear at her target.
Documented History
Snapshots:
>1895; born
>1916; mother hangs herself
>1920; joins the academy
>1926; graduates and joins the Second shortly thereafter
>1997; promoted to Seated Officer in the Second
>2018; Transfers to the First as an executioner
Origin: It's funny how just one little event can ruin generations. Not too terribly long ago, there was a young woman with a bright, promising future as the soon to be Lieutenant to the Second Division. This woman, who was so focused on work and her career, fell easily for a charming young man with a silver tongue and manipulative intentions. So hard she fell, that she devoted her life to him. Gave him everything and only expected his love in return. The two lovers, living the perfect life, had a beautiful daughter on the way and a happy life to live.
But, on a day just like any other, the soon-to-be mother found herself in possession of something dark. Papers, photographs, files, books. A sea of information that strictly contradicted the happy, charming man she had fallen in love with. Naturally, she confronted him and that happy life came tumbling down.
The nice, compassionate man she knew and loved snap away and struck her down. Slaps and words blurred together in a fit of rage as the two of them went at each other until she was on the ground, his hands around her neck. He hissed a single word and then left without a trace.
"Disappear."
And disappear she did. Terrified for her life, she left her job, cut ties with her family, and cornered herself off in some distant part of the Seireitei where she lived off the money she had made as an Officer. Months later, she gave birth to the daughter of the very man who had ripped her soul and heart apart.
She named her daughter Rei. Pure and beautiful is how most mothers would write that name. Doting over just how amazing their child was and how they wished for nothing but the best life for them. But that was not how Rei's mother wrote it. Instead, it was the simple, more derogatory zero. Her child who looked too much like her father, was nothing to the mother who had been stripped of everything she had known and loved.
But her mother was not necessarily a bad one. Rei was warm at night, held close to her mother's chest, and got ample amount of love and care in her younger ages. She never went unfed and never unattended for. Her mother was a warm, constant presence in her life that only started to fade when Rei became her own person.
When Rei was old enough to fend for herself, early in her pre-teen years, her mother became increasingly more distant over a short period of time. During this, Rei found herself doting and loving the only other person she really knew in her life. Dinner was always on time, back massages right before bed, and a hot bath ready first thing in the morning. Anything and everything to see her mother smile.
But she never did.
As the years went on, her mother became more and more outwardly aggressive to her daughter, often spiting her daughter's name like poison, or refusing any sort of kind gestures from her. It wasn't long before the relationship between mother and daughter became nothing more than tears and apathy. A lost child who grew up hearing stories of her awful father and how she looked too much like him faced against the ruthless, uncaring stare of a woman who had no more kindness left in her soul.
When Rei was only twenty years old, her mother hung herself in the basement of their home.
Rise to Power: Sparked by the suicide of her mother, Rei's spiritual power began to grow. Fueled by the deep sadness and powerlessness, her soul blossomed into something worth the attention of the neighboring Shinigami. But, she was too distraught and lost to do much with it. Instead, she remained at home and mourned the loss of her mother for several years. It was only when she had no more tears left to shed and, finally, something inside of her seemed to snap into place, did she leave home and join the Academy.
She was a dedicated student who took her studies very seriously. The traditional bookworm and teacher's pet, she often stayed to herself and never caused a scene. Her performances in all classes were well above average, especially in the spiritual arts and the internal control over her own presence, and easily climbed her way to the top ranks in her classes.
Rei graduated in the top ten percent of her class after six years of studying. By the end of her courses, she chose to specialize in spiritual control and minor in the spiritual arts, making her the perfect new recruit for the Second division. She joined said Division by recommendation just a few months after her graduation.
While in the Second, Rei took to more covert missions, often accompanying higher ranking Shinigami as backup or a decoy. During these missions, she discovered her knack for tracking, stalking, and striking, as one who expect from a traditional assassin. These skills, combined with a large file of successes eventually landed her a seated position within the Second.
However, despite the public opinion, her focus was not on her job. Rather it was on taking the skills she learned from said job and applying them to her more immediate interest: disposing of the scum of the earth. Traitors, wanted criminals, even something as mundane as a man who abandoned his family, these were the targets of her wrath and lust. Anyone who caught her eye would be stalked and hunted for weeks on end before she'd corner them and bring her blade to their throats.
But their deaths weren't as simple as a "cut and run." No, it was intimate and personal. She'd regal them with all their mistakes as she watched them bleed out, their blood pouring over her skin as she pressed her body into them. Slowly, painfully, the life would be sucked from them and then, as they took their last few breaths, she would coat herself in their blood.
By the time morning came, her victim was yet another missing person. Or, in the case of rogues and traitors, someone that would never be found again.
Naturally, she took special care to keep her hobbies hidden from public view. Her targets were never big name people. Never someone who had close ties to anyone of importance. Never anything too risky.
Call to Action: Well into her career at the Second, Rei became more of a full person. She deviated from her work and hobbies, often going out of her way to be amicable to her peers and chain of command. She blossomed into a well spoken, funny girl who could be seen as the light of an otherwise dull and dark division. She inspired camaraderie and closeness among her peers and subordinates, pushing her towards a promotion and, no doubt, the skills that would further improve her late night hunts.
As her social skills grew and word of her had spread to other Division, she found the attention of the First division. Several months after her boom in leadership skills, she was approached by a high ranking member of the First and offered a position as a seated Officer within the First. More specifically, an executioner.
