“Then they only have themselves to blame. I, on the other hand, have a habit of dotting my ‘i’s and crossing my ‘t’s. So keep what I say to yourself and we shall get along swimmingly. I will also extend you that same courtesy.” He was going to give her one chance to prove trustworthy. If she betrayed him, then he would respond accordingly. Though ultimately, who was she really going to tell. “You are partly correct. Depending on the individual in question, records can be quite extensive. Regrettably, not all black robes share information with their brethren.” Merrick was no different. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be working with a human to solve his problems.
The pair had yet to devise a method of contacting each other and Janus stated as much. “I think that the simplest solutions often work best. So we shall do this. I will provide you with a phone number. Either I answer your call or you leave a voice message. In the case of the latter, include provide a date and time with your message. I do not have working cell at the moment, but I should be able to have arrangements made later in the day.” Then he would need a place to store the phone when he was in Soul Society. The ideal location would be the listening post closest to Karakura, but he didn’t trust his colleagues. Maybe a small storage locker would suffice. “I could also drop by your residence from time to time when I am in town, but I believe you said something about your business being destroyed.”
Did Alain want anyone else found? Absolutely, but he couldn’t provide Janus with enough help yet. “I do, but let us stick with the one woman for now. I will need to do some legwork of my own in order to provide you with a better chance of success in these other cases.” In the back of his mind, he wondered how she would go about searching for Amara. No doubt it would involve her precognitive abilities, but he would wanted a more detailed explanation. Unfortunately, the human female wasn’t too thrilled to part with that nugget of knowledge. “I understand the value of secrets, but perhaps in time, you will be willing to share even those.” He would keep discreetly pressing her for answers and eventually, he would get them. But now she was getting antsy. “I do not like that moniker. Either doctor or O’Connor will suffice. Though sadly, my time is coming to a close.” The denreishinki in his pocket began to vibrate. “Tell me where you are living and we can make plans to meet in the near future.”
